    EXPLANATION:
Installation: The hydraulic bolt tensioner is placed over the bolt, and the threaded puller engages with the bolt threads. The tensioner is positioned between the nut and the joint or flange.
Tensioning: Hydraulic pressure is applied through the tensioner, which exerts a pulling force on the bolt. As the tensioner extends and pulls on the bolt, it stretches the bolt and generates tension.
Holding: Once the desired tension is achieved, the hydraulic pressure is maintained in the tensioner to hold the tension.
Nut Tightening: With the bolt under tension, the nut can be tightened separately using a wrench or other appropriate tool. This is typically done by applying torque to the nut while holding the tension in the bolt using the tensioner. The tensioner provides a counterforce to prevent the bolt from rotating or losing tension during the nut tightening process.
Locking: After the nut is properly tightened, additional measures may be taken to secure it in place, such as using a locking device, a locking washer, or applying thread-locking compounds.
It's important to note that hydraulic bolt tensioners are primarily used to achieve and maintain the desired tension in the bolt. The actual tightening of the nut is typically performed separately using conventional methods to ensure proper engagement and torque application.

Phenomenal videos Gary. No music in my opinion would be better. It's so much more interesting to hear the comms. Anyway, I was just wondering why all the tapping on the connectors around mark 17:00 ?

Thx Eric , Yea the new vids im posting are without music, still newbie on editing ,
I was tapping it to try to get a seal as it was leaking. some sockets might have sand in them or silt.

Nice and clear on that seabed. Did exactly the same procedure on the Beryl field for Mobil in 1985. Working at 117 meters off the Uncle John for Comex. Dreadful music by the way.

Not as much as before James , but then again , it depends on the clients and the companies , they all have different regulations.

These are hydraulic driven bolt tensioners right? Pneumatic ones don't really fit in my opinion for:
    1. Power wise
    2. It looks like oil leaking in some parts
but if im wrong id be happy to learn more :D
Thank you for the videos :D

    • @garykanason
      @garykanason  2 роки тому +1

Yes it is , Pneumatic ones dont work well at depths.
Yes we had few leaks while tensioning.

      @@garykanason Thank you.
      Tho how do they work?
Are they like small pistons pushing the two pipes together? Or do they have any internals that actually turn the nut?
My guess would be the piston. I didn’t see any moving parts in there and it would make sense with the holders that go onto the bolts.
