    Thanks for making this video. I had to replace a small motorcycle battery on my riding lawnmower (only 7 ah). I'm used to "buy it and go" when it comes to batteries. I had no idea that I would need to add the acid and then charge it before using 🤔🤐 Luckily I purchased a 1 amp smart charger to try and revive my previous battery, so I'm prepared for the charging. Thanks again for all the great information!

    Good video but a couple of things people should know. On an AGM battery with ratings of less than 18 AH, let the battery stand for 20 to 60 minutes. For batteries with higher AH ratings or having the High Performance rating (designated by an “H” in the part number/name), allow the battery to stand for 1 to 2 hours before starting the charging process. This allows electrolytes to permeate into the plates for optimum performance and longer life. Also, I recommend you keep the caps or plate off the battery for the initial first charge so it can vent better during the stand process.

      I have a kymco c1 125 cc motor bike. from 2015. So I am new and scared of stupid batteries and these videos are not really helping me at all. I have watched a video or 10 ha! how to take out the battery from this model of bike. Aas the battery was dead, well not powering at all. So I have managed to take out the battery from its housing on the left side and lost a back screw bolt because I was too scared of ekectrocution. So I have the battery charger a noco genius 1. In uk. So three pin ok? I have no screws in the terminals because I unscrewed them and lost the bolt into the bike. So the battery is out sitting on the floor and so I am looking at it and have no clue whatsoever how to charge it. The instruction manual for the charger is totally vague. The battery is flat. Should I clip the alligator clips to the apropriate terminals, with out the screws on or clip them to the round housings where the housing screws I took off and dropped the back nut off by fear of touching it due to internet fear mongers? So, sorry but what do I have to connect? The alligator clips? Or the round screws or? Ahh, this is sillyness

    shouldn't you wait an hour or so and then recheck the levels before charging, as well as letting the battery cool, before charging? You make it sound like you just fill, cap, and charge.

      Always let it sit for an hour or two after filling, let all the spaces fill up and fill each cell if need be. Then cap it. Charge it and let her rip.

    DO NOT PUNCTURE the acid containers to make it flow quicker, unless you want acid to overflow and spill all around the battery. Then go out to shop for additional acid to fill in the missing original acid once it settles in cells and leaves void after what was spilled.

    Great video. I just received a Prima CB9-B battery for my scooter. It looks just very similar to the first battery you filled. An exhaust tube came with the battery, but it didn't come with one that attaches to the nozzle so I can pour the fluid in. The place I bought it from said to just put the nozzle directly in the cell holes. I'm worried this is going to cause a mess. Should I just use a funnel?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому

      If you're worried about spilling it everywhere you can definitely use a small funnel or you can even make your own nozzle by using a spare piece of fuel line or vent tubing if you have that.

    I filled my brand new lead acid battery and started charging it with a battery tender junior. I left it overnight and noticed when I woke up that one of the fill plugs popped off (landed on the other side of the room) and there was acid on the top of the battery and on the ground. Can you give any reason why this would happen? Should I return it? Possible user error? I read somewhere that the vent cap needs to be off while charging. I put it back on after filling it and while charging..

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 роки тому

      It will depend on the type of battery but a lot of lead-acid batteries will need to be filled with acid so it won't have enough of a charge to start your bike without being charged first. But if you get a battery that has enough of a charge to start your bike, it is possible to install it without charging but most batteries will have a longer life if they are properly charged before installation.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +1

      If your charger has a float mode on it, doing that would not cause any problems. With that said, I would suggest waiting until you're a little closer to when you'll actually be using it just because there's no reason to fill it then leave on a charger for 2 months.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 років тому +1

      *Austin Allen* that is good practice. I personally do it, but most acid type batteries will have a vent tab on them, where you can attach a breather hose. This vent helps any air bubbles to escape. It's more personal preferance if you choose to leave the plugs off or not. Both methods work fine. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for the video.
    I got a question, the battery we got only had a short instruction and we only got one hose, since the instruction said to hook up the hose to the vent "plugg" we thought this also was the way to fill the battery. So we hooked up the other side of the vent hose to the acid pack and turned it up-side-down and it started to fill slowly. Filled the battery without problem to the upper level (through the vent plugg). My question is if we might have damaged anything with the vent plugg.
    And also, after first charge, should the acid change battery?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  9 років тому

    Hi, thanks for the great video. Just a question, can i use the battery just after filling the acid in (as I don't have the charger)? I've always thought that the electricity generated when running the scooter will gradually charge the battery?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 років тому +6

      To get the full battery life out of the battery would be to charge it first. The stator doesn't put out enough electricity to charge a battery's first charge. Your battery will be at around 80% battery life after filling it with acid, so yes you can run it after you have filled it.. but i would recommend you charge it after.

    So I'm a little confused. The Battery you're charging says 5.5AH, and you're using a charger which says it charges at 1a. 10% of 5.5 is .55a. How strict a rule is your 10% rule? Or is any amperage below 3 okay to use on a MC battery? My battery is10ah, and I was thinking of buying a Battery Tender Junior for it, which charges at .750a. Is it okay for amps to be under the 10%?

    How often do you add battery acid?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 роки тому

      You shouldn't ever need to add battery acid after the initial filling of the battery, but if a cell does lose a little fluid you can top it off with distilled water. As long as you are monitoring it through its life you won't have to add new acid to the cells.

    Hi ! Rocky Mountain ATV MC , can i use 3 amp charger to charge a 9 Ah AND 5 Ah 12V BATTERY ( not simultaneously )

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 років тому +1

      +Nimesh Kumar A 3 amp battery tender should be the max when dealing with these smaller batteries. We recommend as low as a 0.75 amp trickle charger. Like it's mentioned in the video, we divide the amount of amps x 10 and you get your recommended charging rate for that particular battery size. If you have any other questions let us know! Thanks for watching

      +Rocky Mountain ATV MC I want to use a HID in my bike which draws 6 amps in the starting (for 2 minutes) and later it settles down at 3 amps of current draw
      and
      if i charge it with a slow charge rate then soon my battery ends up with low juice ,
      that's why i was asking for a 3 Ah charger for 9 Ah battery (because slow charger will not work for me) correct me if i'm wrong.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 років тому

      +Nimesh Kumar What bike are you riding, Year, Make, Model? The trickle charger should be plenty to charge your battery but it shouldn’t need to be charged every single day. If the battery is getting drained too quickly it sounds like your bike isn’t producing enough power to handle that light.

    So do I put the vent plug back on, liquid is coming out as it charges

    • @randomscience4k
      @randomscience4k 4 роки тому

      Yes, the vent plugs can be put back after filling acid or topping with water as there is a side vent port with to remove gas built up . If you filled the acid initially or added distilled water to top it off and made sure to keep the electrolyte level at the "UPPER LEVEL" mark then the battery acid should not come out through the vent hole. There will be some bubbling during the charging process due to the release of hydrogen gas. If you have not overfilled then it's likely your charging voltage is too high.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 роки тому

      It can vary depending on the battery you have but if your vehicle has an existing vent tube you'll hook it up to the new battery. It's best to check the service manual for your specific bike to see if or where the vent tube is routed.

      @@Zemixify Yes, you will want to put the cell caps back on before installing the battery on your machine. The tube connected to your battery is the vent hose, you can see at 2:00 where we talk about the vent hose and you can leave that connected. At the very end of the video at 8:29 you can see the battery installed on the machine with the vent hose still attached.

    if I received a dry 6 volt battery and add the acid to it, let it set for an hour, then check it with a volt meter should I get 6volts (roughly)? I know it won't be a strong battery until I charge it but I should get 6v. I am getting only 3 volts (roughly), would that mean I received a bad battery?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 років тому

      It's really hard to say on that.. roughly the battery should have about 70-80% battery life. I would tell you to charge it and then check it. If it's at 3v then, then i would warranty it.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +1

      It depends on your specific battery but most 12V chargers that we carry are in the .75 to 1.25 amps area. As just a general rule I would stay closer to that if you're able to set the amp output.
      Hope that helps!

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 років тому

      It depends on the style of acid battery you have? Some batteries are sealed with a strip on the top and others have an individual battery cell caps and these you can easily refill with acid or distilled water and then put on a battery tender to charge.
