I don't remember that film. It would be difficult viewing in a shop, but we had VHS and tv by then. I would have appreciated a film on a lawnmower governor. That was the hardest concept for me.
mike i know what will get you a hell of a lot of views step by step m57 conversion start to finnish as everyone in the uk wants to do one they just dont know what to do if that makes sense parts suppliers list etc you should be able to get a cheap 3.0 d bmw engine over there just a thought
Problem here is finding an engine - not that many diesels cars here = looked at the cheapest X5 and that was almost C$12,000, (that was at the other side of Canada) and as I have found from experience buying an engine on the floor unheard can be an expensive prospect! Plus, you may need a lot of other parts not included with the engine
@@BritannicaRestorations I get ya synchro gearboxes do converter plate ,melman or what ever there name is do the stand alone ECU harness ,it's a shame the 3.0 d engines are cheap as chips over here I am busy trying to buy two full Cars for the engines as I am gonna put them into two of mine and sell my 300 TDI engines both Minta engines
This is the reason why I fitted the V6 GM as they are for nothing, bulletproof and easy to repair and service at any garage - Diesel Euro engines here are rare
We perhaps fail to appreciate the impact of the humble spring (and in particular spring pressure) on our mechanically influenced lives
Lol!
Yep , makes sense, new item for the Britrest shop I hope ?
Thanks for the lesson that was very informative and very well done
Glad it was helpful!
I've found 3mm gasket paper so I'm going to make my own so there is just 1 gasket and not 3. Great videos thanks for the help, keep up the good work 👍
Glad I could help
I've been running the spacer and 2 gaskets and its been a bit flat but I've had other issues to sort first, so hopefully this is the last piece of the puzzle, cheers
G'Day Mike
As they say "Its so Simple its Stupid - but it WORKS!".
Right!
Nice one Mike. Makes a lot of sense. Every day is a school day, and i am always learning. Really enjoy watching your videos, i am a retired mechanic, and ive forgotten a lot, you refresh my memory.👍
Glad to hear it!
Mike thanks for explanation.
Cheers King Mike. 🥃
Any time!
I imagine the old Lucas electric pumps worked the same way internally
To be honest, I cannot remember
Interesting again. Thanks Mike. 😊👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
A couple of queries:
1) does all your work mean I don’t need to do all this measuring to determine the ideal spacer?
2) if I must do all this measuring, is it possible to do it with the engine in-situ?
3 gaskets
Great video. Again
Glad you enjoyed it
Mike. Im swapping my v8 to a 300 tdi. Watched loads of your video's. Brilliant information. My question is, Could i use the in tank fuel pump as the lift pump?
I would remove the fine mesh on the pump intake as you have mentioned . It is a low pressure pump for the carburettor, not the injection type.
Thanks
Jim.
The lift pump on a 300Tdi is supposed to be 4 PSI - similar to the carb fuel pump, so you should be OK
Could you use the tank fuel pump, and the lift pump on the engine? Or would the create a problem. ???
I don't think so
Great video… again
Thanks again!
Do you think there is variance, across the different makes, in the length or the lift pump arms ?
Hi @BritannicaRestorations will the ERR5057 work on 200tdi Discovery??? I have the original Delphi ETC7869 so far. Thanks
Sorry - no
Land rovers... Together we will get them perfect by 2122
Not sure about the 300tdi but other Bosch VE pumped engines I have seen with a lift pump have a restrictor in the return banjo on the injector pump thus stopping fuel flowing flat out back to tank. Is this the case on the 300tdi Mike ?
It is to keep a constant pressure in the injector pump - one common cause of poor starting is the mixing up of the feed and return banjo bolts!
@@BritannicaRestorations Hi Mike, I took out my aluminium spacer today. The gaskets I removed were old and compressed so spacer and two gaskets was 6mm. I got Genuine LR gaskets to replace the spacer with but when I measured them they were only about 0.5mm thick each. Something to be aware of! I used two gaskets I had in stock that were about 0.7mm each and three of the Landrover gaskets to give me 3mm total, I greased them all up to stick them together and the wad of gaskets was 3mm finished. Didn’t seem to make any more power but loads of diesel spraying out when I opened the bleed screw with the engine running! Can’t do any harm.
Thank you very much for doing the research into these problems! Please could you show us how to stop the rover cover gasket from repeatedly leaking ? I have tried every brand of decent gasket they all last less than 12months! Why ?
Whats your thoughts on replacing the mechanical lift pump with a electric pump?
We did just that when our 200Tdi quit while on holiday. We purchased a generic electric fuel pump (perhaps Peugeot hatchback) from one of those hole-in-the-wall car parts shops and drove home another 1000kms, no problemo. No idea of the working pressure but - if I understood Mike correctly - the injection pump doesn't need a lot of help. However, that being said, I can't speak to the longevity as I replaced it with the original mechanical a couple thousand kilometres later.
it's a good idea!
Hi, ive been watching and learning for some time but its the first time ive commented. So, I have a question. Can i get away without one on a tdi300 90?
Not sure - don't see many 300Tdi 90 here
Would you happen to know if the 3 gasket solution is also better on a hs 2.8? It has about the same liftpump, but without de manual lever.
Sorry, no idea - the block casting was different on the HS2.8 - not seen one for 8 years!
Split linkage,?
Плохо что они не разборные.
да!
But, but….how was the birthday?
It never happened - she didn't turn up
@@BritannicaRestorations Ouch, bummer.
Getting used to it now - should have known better
@@BritannicaRestorations Ah, that sort of relationship. Still, I can empathise.😕🙁
So what is the optimum spacer ? I fitted a 6mm aluminium one on my 300tdi station wagen. some time ago now and pump still going strong.
That is because it is not doing much, and I bet you have a 90!
