Quick update, after about two and a half years the image quality of the camera started to deteriorate. It was still working and usable but a bit over-exposed. I suspect this was either an issue with either abrasions on the lens or possibly the sensor starting to fail. Fortunately, this was easily repairable by purchasing a new camera from a different brand on ebay for about £12. The mount was slightly different, but I managed to use the same bolts to attach it. The wiring (video lead and power lead) worked without modification. I would recommend checking the voltage and polarity but if you have this issue the at least you can have some confidence in a simple and inexpensive repair option.

Very helpful. I've been wondering how to get the cable from my camera into the van (also a Unicorn) without drilling and you've provided a very helpful clue. Any thoughts on avoiding glare from the sun? The lower the camera position, the trickier this becomes.
I have a similar system made up of components from ebay. I get sporadic interference too and I'm pretty sure it's because the wireless link to the monitor uses the same frequency range as domestic wifi and Bluetooth systems. If you pass by a particularly strong signal source it will swamp the camera output.
Totally agree there's a lot of wireless gear in and around cars these days so the frequency spectrum is pretty congested. It certainly hasn't been a major issue for us. Kudos for building your system from components.
I'm not one for buying lots of toys for the caravan but like the idea of this Dave. I wonder if you had 2 cameras you could fit one for the back of the car handy for hitching up as well as normal reversing. Nice one
We have a reversing camera built into our car and it certainly makes hitching much simpler, especially if you are on your own.
I think that you’ll find the interference is caused by UHF radio transmissions close by. Most wireless camera systems use UHF frequency and are affected by UHF radios being used close by.
Yes I'd agree. As I mentioned in the video at 4:36 the interference tends to come and go as certain other vehicles are nearby so it's much more likely to be transmission from another source so fairly unavoidable at this sort of cost point.
DT how is the Boscam working as you have had on for a while? thinking of getting one after seeing your video.
Still working fine. I thought the picture quality had got worse but it turned out the camera just needed cleaning 😂. Certainly nothing to report that would dissuade me from recommending it.
@@DTSquared thank you. Will go for the kit.. I ave a twin axle bailey black edition so will be following your video step by step. Although just wondering if I feed the wires in the Ben in front locker rather than by fridge.
@@keithalangrundy8009 Yeah I made life harder for myself bringing the cable in sooner (I think I got it into my mind that I would get 12v feed from the fuse box under fridge originally and then didn't change my wiring route once that option was ruled out.) I don't think there will be a huge issue taking the cable along the chasis all the way to the front locker. You should definitely make sure the transmitter is as far forward as possible though.
