It’s our fault, we pander to these companies. We need to purchase only from companies who treat everyone with respect. Policies would quickly change if their stores emptied.
It’s the nightclub mentality. The more they treat you like dirt, the more exclusive it feels, and the more you want it. Nobody lines up for the club that lets anyone in.
For real. This is a bit too much. If I have the money to purchase the specific product that I want, that should be it. This kind of behaviour from luxury stores is the reason why I primarily make online purchases.
I work for a luxury retailer as a sales associate and part of our performance metric is getting the customer's full address, email address etc. They are then placed in "tier" groupings. Every month management gives us a rating of how many transactions we processed with/without client's detailed information. I do not blame clients who decline as it is such an invasion of privacy!!
I honestly think it should be illegal for employees to look up customer's home addresses. We provide them that information for billing, shipping and verification. Not so they can go on virtual house tours. For all we know, they might not be breaking into people's homes themselves, but they sure could tip off other people to do it. It's like people who get followed home outside of banks. I have a high suspicion that some bank tellers are telling people who to rob and it's scary.
Our personal data is everywhere. Your dry cleaner likely has your address (and knows what brands you wear). Your doctor’s office has your address. Your gym has your address. Bad actors at those places can figure out your approximate income - and when you are not going to be home. I am not saying this is okay. But we live in the world where it is very easy to find information about someone and take advantage of it.
I’ve heard that this is what managers at H allegedly do in Paris when you have a bag appt. When they are “looking” for a bag for you in the storeroom lol! Allegedly they look up your social media etc
I have a standart reply for when someone asks me what od I do for living and I don't want to go into details. I answer : "Whatever it takes". Which is funnily enough close to truth being self employed 😅
It’s so funny you mention this because it has crossed my mind that it’s possible to look up someone’s address and their name to find out info about their “worth”- financially. I find it very creepy what the internet can do.
I've bcome utterly addicted to you, dacob.....head over heels. I am waiting for some bright spark to give you a TV spot...if there is sucha thing as a talent-spotter ( worthy of the name talent) (debateable) still left in this world.
I moved into my house 17 years ago and used to do it up with fall decor. Now I’m scared for people to steal or destroy it for sport. Thoughts & prayers for your pumpkin door mat. The SAs saw it on google earth & were dying ferret! 😂
Super Dacob, I retired @ 43 after paying 2 mortgages off & didn’t need to work (health issues assisted in the decision). So do I now say I’m a person of leisure, retired, domestic engineer etc., it’s ludicrous. It’s no one’s beeswax what I have in superannuation / bank, etc. Purchased a home 18 kms from the CBD @ the time people said it’s too far & now classed as “inner metro”, how old are these store managers & what life experience do they have? Blows my mind isn’t money the same value for everyone where luxury is concerned⁉️ Food for thought perhaps? Great vlog TVM. Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🇦🇺💐
Im not surprised this is old school clientele booking. If you heard what I’ve heard on conference calls when I worked for French luxury brand, let’s be honest they are selling high ends products and the brands are trying to make huge money.
My new beauty SA at a luxury shop asked for my address to ship me an item yesterday. Obviously she would need that, but when she asked I did wonder, would they look up my home? I agree with other comments, some people purchase a humble home and have loads in the bank, while some with “fancy” homes are house poor - you just can’t accurately assess. …. Invite and give attention to the clients who are coming in, making purchases, and treating associates with respect. This information is gross.
You hit the nail on the head regarding safety - this is something that I’ve ALWAYS been paranoid about. Like any SA or staff can get info on their clients about where they live. I wouldn’t think of this with my regular SA, but moreso with an SA I infrequently purchase from. With growing safety concerns, perhaps we should keep our billing address different from our home address. I was in one of the Hawaii stores while on a multi city trip in the US in 2022 when Chanel implemented stricter purchasing limits for bags and SLGs. When I raised this with the SA when I wanted to purchase my belt bag, he said that I didn’t have to complete my profile. I wasn’t obligated to give a phone number or a last name even! He said Americans often don’t want to give personal info and some object to it. I actually witnessed this in Las Vegas - a young woman retorted to an SA that she isn’t obligated to give any personal info to make a purchase. I was in awe! Lol And yes, I’ve also had a door mat and chair stolen from our front porch. I need to move out of the city lol.
My ex-boss is a multi$$$aire. He used to go in the public elevators with an old NM shopping bag as a briefcase & wore those old tacky double knit polyester pants like grandpa. Looked closer to the repairman than owning the city block. You never know. Just saying….
Yea, I grew up in an old money area and this is my experience as well. But they're also the people who don't shop the "luxury" brands like this, which is the irony, and if they do need a gift they just flash their status credit card and then they're left to shop in peace.
Why is there always you types who come on here and say this rich person does xyz and looks like bum? Does it make you feel better about yourself, you do understand money doesn’t give you taste or class right? Everyone wants money not everyone has taste or class.
Wow Dacob. thats scary that they "track" the clients. its like when they started putting chips in the bags rather than the authenticity card and serial number. sigh...glad im sticking with the vintage bags ❤❤❤❤ love the video 😊
Well im the one who is working class. Single no burden i have 2 houses , 3 apartment and 2 buildings from my parents in home country. Yes i save up or pay monthly for my fashion item. It's art and art is in my heart from music , my room decoration to my outfit. I drive cheap used car and my SA is still very nice to me. She help me carry my Celine's cloth to my car once. My boss is a lot richer than me. She wear fast fashion because it's cheap. She won't buy designer stuff but own stock and 3 branches of restaurants. She bought 1 nice house in town and 1 in camel. Also, she donates a lot every year. SA can't make sell to some rich or very rich people because they just don't care about fashion. The one i know they bought a land on hill and a plane. No single piece of pricy bag just cheap clothes. If they only judge people just from the look or houses. They lose customer. Im sorry about your doormat by the way. Its so pathetic that people even steal something like this.
That's disgusting... I recently had an issue with a Coach store where they blamed me for a 1 week old bag being defective and told me I put white powder in it, also implied when I came in for an exchange that I was trying to steal another bag (a SA) took the bag I had on hold from me to "see it" and never returned it to me... The manager never helped me, nor did the store manager call me the next day... I ended up having to call corporate and 2 weeks in they were able to help me and apologize
I was signing up for a gym and the lady who gave me a tour asked what I do for work im like???? I don’t even have a job but I said I work in an office. That’s my excuse for anyone in my business
Hey Dacob! 🤩 thank you for that topic! 👏🏽👏🏽 There are some ways to keep our privacy. If we don’t want to share our private e-mail we can make special one for shopping only. For address if we have concerns about home address and have a business or friend with business we can always get delivery to that place. In my homeland another way is to rent mailbox in the post office. Not sure if this works for bigger parcels 📦 or letters only. If you are too chatty and SA knows all about you from your address to holidays plans you may became an easy target if they are connected to criminal groups. If they ask you what you do for a living no need to give them answer, you can use some manipulation technics to make them feel uncomfortable even asking that question - you can repeat „what I do for a living?” then look in their eyes and just smile or you can change the subject/you can say crap like you are professional hedonist, mother, wife whatever. Being mysterious not equal being rude. We have all right to keep our privacy and giving answer about personal life is up to us!
During Quasi lockdown our boutique had curbside pickup and my boss always had me run the parcels out to the clients cars. Many of our clients had porches and Bentleys. And I will tell you. Most of those clients were not our biggest spenders. I can't judge the size or zip code as indication to what one is willing to spend on fashion. Also in Las Vegas a lot of home robberies are traced back to connections with house cleaning services. More than a store associate. House cleaning services tend to not have deep back ground checks and high employee turnover. And the house cleaners know every detail of the home and can take pictures. Sadly some of these home invasions ended in death. Vegas is good at keeping it's skeletons in it's closet. Sadly someone was unalived for a Chanel 19. Tragic.
I am not sure what is so surprising about this. High-end restaurants habitually look up customers online when they make reservations. Waiters at those restaurants study watches and jewelry to see if they can offer the really expensive bottles of wine to their guests. I read a memoir of a lady who was a sommelier at Marea in NYC and she goes into great detail about this. Good corporate salespeople take notes on their contacts family, hobbies, kid’s activities, so they can connect to the customers - and sell more. Your realtor will absolutely look you up online, including your current address and your LinkedIn profile. I am curious if this is a company-encouraged behavior or an individual employee taking an initiative. I do think this strategy is short-sighted for all the obvious reasons: people’s houses and jobs are not reflective of their ability (and willingness) to spend on luxury. People’s fortunes change.
I do recall Louis Vuitton asking for my address at checkout, not the sales associate but they could have done the same. Sad 😔 the next purchase I ordered online.
They really need to maybe reconsider peoples safety when it comes to certain sites and peoples info this really makes one more guarded at what they decide to share and as you were saying stores want your profile if you want to shop thank you Dacob for sharing this with us your channel is great and i love it❤
PS: In a convo, I'd usually say "I'm shopping for a friend, this is off *my* budget". YES I HAVE MORE THAN ONE FRIEND SUE ME. (I've more tricks to keep my info private, but not sharing them on the internet)))))
Some luxury houses will not allow you to purchase for a friend. Only private purchases allowed otherwise they suspect you of being a reseller. Allegedly.
Big brother is watching. Using google earth to look at customers' homes is a step too far. Lol at she calls the clients because the ipad tells her to. A huge thumbs up for this video Dacob!
most of the time, when they asked me what I was doing for a living, I told them I was a full-time son and casually doing nothing for the past 10 years in central london. or pretend you don't speak english that well.
@@ohthankg-dforthebourgeoisi9800 a lot of ppl know who he is. If an old boomer walks into luxury store it’s safe to assume they have money. Lower income boomers are not exposed to luxury brands
You make a lot of good points, I think I might just not give any details beyond my first name when purchasing at new brands or branches. They still sell to you if you don't fill out the whole form.
I love this reply! Answer their question with an even more intense question! This is the one I might use next time someone asks me questions at checkout!
Loro Piana "finished"? No way, Dear Dacob! LP existed long before TikTok, and it will be around for a long time to come . Those who wear the brand will quietly continue to do so. That's the ENTIRE point. They'll also be more than happy to see the trend fly right past them. As for customer profiling, anyone can get info on anyone else these days. There is no privacy. I never ask anyone what they do for a living. I wait for them to tell me. If a sales associate asks me what I do, I tell them that I am self employed. If you have a professional, but slightly crisp tone, they'll usually let it go at that. Something about me doesn't encourage them to get too familiar.
Lol....... everyone is acting so surprised!!!!! This doesn't surprise me at ALL. Does the word EXCLUSIVE not mean anything to people? Derived from the word EXCLUDE....... 💅
I’m not saying I’m all that but recently I have been getting emails and offers from Chanel .. hmmm.. I never have received them in the past ..and yes when I walk in they all say “hi how have you been etc…never before .. interesting… no more small talk from me ..
Dacob, your latest video was an eye-opener! It's astonishing to learn how luxury brands might be prying into our personal lives. The idea of them using Google Earth to judge our wealth is frankly disturbing and a huge invasion of privacy. Your advice on being more guarded with personal information is invaluable. On a lighter note, your story about the stolen doormat was both amusing and relatable. It highlights how we need to stay vigilant in all aspects of our lives, not just in luxury shopping. Thank you for shedding light on these practices and keeping us informed and entertained!
And btw what's wrong with saving for months to buy a designer bag? I always did. Never paid my bags with my credit card, always with debit after saving money enough.
I am wondering if such behavior is encouraged by those brands or is it "just" this specific individual personality "trait"? If the latter luxury brands should be more selective during their hiring process, but if it's their policies then damn... That's some nasty, smelly swamp.
😂😂😂 the doormat, sorry about that, it’s unfortunately true! we live in a monitored world, we have no privacy soon, all for money. so greedy! Thank you so much for sharing this information 👍🏻 take care ♥️♥️♥️
They must be trying to collect a precise database of their customer like Google or Fb only then they'd be able to milk them out of their last droplets.
Oh my goodness, your black and white green screen is calling me! By the way, Tiffany is exactly the same. They check your record of purchases before they do you a favor!!!!! I bought a pair of earrings from the New York store because my local Miami store did not have them. One earring didn’t close properly. I took them to the Miami location and they told me that since it was past a month (6 weeks) they couldn’t do an exchange, but they had a little conference in the back and checked my account, came back out and said no problem.
Yes, they may give information to some gangs, SCARY.Do not keep your expensive stuff in your house. Tell them you are traders or a pimp a superstar in the making. I had a burglary in London is quite awful.
This has been going on even before internet. My aunt has a retail business when i was growing up and after they left she and my mom would talk about what they get from the chat and ascertain what kind of customer she was. If they get certain products that they believe fit this person they call her first. It's just business strategy. You can google almost everything now and i think this strategy has been used in ages. Discrimation will always be the cry of the ' feeling victimized' when it is just profiling. If you own the business you'll learn you need to make profit. What else but charity if you just gave it to anybody.
I always had a fear that a huge rich company like Chanel would do this new fear officially unlocked 😳 and what about resellers they can’t quite calculate that
Ohhh this is creepy! see I would be like, oh I’m so sorry but I just Don’t give that information out when I’m shopping, due to “security” concerns dahling…I’m proud of amounts I’ve saved for nice items…if I feel judged? I’ll leave and come back another time or go to Another store…I may even write into corp!!
Well, does that shock me? Unfortunately not. When I worked in the luxury industry, I met a jeweller who secretly rated all his female contacts 1-3 and a-c for money and looks. So a 1a would be a rich and gorg woman, while a 3c would be one who couldn't afford his pieces and was not attractive to him. He based his interactions off that "metric". (Didn't rate men though.) I mean I understand the value of "profiling" your customer base but you can be professional and purposeful about it, or you can be a douche.
Goes to show you who the target audience for these purchases really is. If you’re really wealthy, odds are your address aren’t in the public domain because you purchase your homes under an llc or other entity to obscure your identity. Or you have a stylist purchase your items for you. I have never and will never shop at these tacky brands
Oddly enough, this does not surprise me at all. I used to be a "digital activist" and this level of prying was happening all the time with the excuse of "security". So hearing that some gauchely ambitious store manager does this doesn't surprise me.
I hate when they ask for personal info at checkout. Before they even say 'hi'...can I get your email? No. Can I get your phone number? No (except for Petco, CVS, and the beauty supplies I go to), I LIKE them. One saleslady got snooty and aggresive with me to give it. You have no idea how much I wanted to pull her tongue out of her mouth, and let it snap back and roll around. Like in the cartoons! Yeah.
Omg! You don’t have a ring camera? You better get one ASAP. taking door mats and door decorations are a test to see how fast you replace them. You better get a doorbell cam.
To be fair, luxury goods are problematic if you have to save for them. If it’s truly something you desire for yourself, then heart wants want the heart wants. But if you’re doing it just to signal to others, then you’re playing right into the brand’s hands.
I would just look them in the eye with a serious face and say, "I'm a very private person." Make sure you are dressed nice, but not over the top. Then maybe they will just wonder how much money you have.
Yuck. It’s awful to hear the classist insider info, but these brands are casing us as soon as we step into the store based on what we are wearing and who we are with. I tend to get more attentive service if my husband is with me. Sad, as I am the one paying. That’s a whole nother topic. Sometimes I avoid the shenanigans by just buying from the brands online. But buying online can come with its own set of shenanigans. It can be nerve wracking returning the bags, for example. I do think you have more anonymity buying online though. I do love the in store experience, though.
It’s our fault, we pander to these companies. We need to purchase only from companies who treat everyone with respect. Policies would quickly change if their stores emptied.

Big brother is watching. Using google earth to look at customers' homes is a step too far. Lol at she calls the clients because the ipad tells her to. A huge thumbs up for this video Dacob!
not the "oh great senior citizen, even easier to rob..." hahah so true
most of the time, when they asked me what I was doing for a living, I told them I was a full-time son and casually doing nothing for the past 10 years in central london. or pretend you don't speak english that well.
This video should go viral!
What if Mrs Warren Buffett had walked in? Warren Buffett is famous for living very modestly whilst being one of the richest men on the planet.
He is famous
@@lvbadboy. Yes but they would have NO IDEA who he was. 😂 the Oracle from Omaha. The SA would think he’s a fortune teller?
@@ohthankg-dforthebourgeoisi9800 a lot of ppl know who he is. If an old boomer walks into luxury store it’s safe to assume they have money. Lower income boomers are not exposed to luxury brands
This is alarming
That’s why i use a P.O. Box. People are so shady
You make a lot of good points, I think I might just not give any details beyond my first name when purchasing at new brands or branches. They still sell to you if you don't fill out the whole form.
tell em “ im a trust fund baby “
This is very nerve wrecking thank you for the eye opener 😳
Snooty cows the lot of them😑
Ask them why it matters!
I love this reply! Answer their question with an even more intense question! This is the one I might use next time someone asks me questions at checkout!
Block your house from Google street view. Then they can only get an idea of the neighborhood, but not your house.
Still not good enough. Unfortunately satellite view can’t be blocked and anw they can go to the address and see the house in real life.
They don’t want accept they are attracted to exclusivity and what comes with it😅

I’m not saying I’m all that but recently I have been getting emails and offers from Chanel .. hmmm.. I never have received them in the past ..and yes when I walk in they all say “hi how have you been etc…never before .. interesting… no more small talk from me ..

Wow, scary food for thought!
Quite scary. I agree.
☕ Tea is piping hot!👀
They had a crush. Couldn’t have you so got next best thing. Your doormat. Lol
🤣🤣🤣 it's disgustaaaang 🤣🤣🤣. Is it from that video of two girls scolded by their mother when they didn't flush the toilet?
And btw what's wrong with saving for months to buy a designer bag? I always did. Never paid my bags with my credit card, always with debit after saving money enough.
Nothin wrong with that 💖
This is the reason why I shop online😂
Gone are the good old days, when the only way they can look you up was a phone book😂
True that haha
I am wondering if such behavior is encouraged by those brands or is it "just" this specific individual personality "trait"? If the latter luxury brands should be more selective during their hiring process, but if it's their policies then damn... That's some nasty, smelly swamp.
😂😂😂 the doormat, sorry about that, it’s unfortunately true! we live in a monitored world, we have no privacy soon, all for money. so greedy! Thank you so much for sharing this information 👍🏻 take care ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you 🙏🏻💖
A raccoon could've taken your doormat, lol. I saw a video once of a doormat thief racoon 😹
That would have been adorable to see
They must be trying to collect a precise database of their customer like Google or Fb only then they'd be able to milk them out of their last droplets.
Off topic, but Dacobs eyes are so mesmerizing in this video!!! Persian cat vibes fashion daddy
Typical clienting tactics - remember these SA’s have to have an established book being even applying
Right nothing new
Now i have to google my address to see what they see 😅😅
Growing up (decades ago), some wealthy people just listed their profession as “private investor” and it was not untrue - you could always say this.
I tend to babble if nervous or anxious so this is a good reminder to zip the lip
I always had a fear that a huge rich company like Chanel would do this new fear officially unlocked 😳 and what about resellers they can’t quite calculate that
Can’t say I am surprised especially they have us give address
Ohhh this is creepy! see I would be like, oh I’m so sorry but I just Don’t give that information out when I’m shopping, due to “security” concerns dahling…I’m proud of amounts I’ve saved for nice items…if I feel judged? I’ll leave and come back another time or go to
Another store…I may even write into corp!!
Great points
Well, does that shock me? Unfortunately not. When I worked in the luxury industry, I met a jeweller who secretly rated all his female contacts 1-3 and a-c for money and looks. So a 1a would be a rich and gorg woman, while a 3c would be one who couldn't afford his pieces and was not attractive to him. He based his interactions off that "metric". (Didn't rate men though.) I mean I understand the value of "profiling" your customer base but you can be professional and purposeful about it, or you can be a douche.
That is disgusting. Holy cow.
@@TrueImmortality ikr? He had more repulsive traits but this was the shit cherry on the crap cake.
Yeah.
I got the visual 🤪😂😂
LOL!
I got the visual too 🤣🤣💖
Glad you aired this, and thanks to anon person. But I’m not that shocked, funny enough. SA’s act like car dealership salesmen.
that is none of her business were people live, she should be happy that people are buying their products and keeping her in a job MISS NOSY.
