Lyrics:
Jekyll:
Mrs. Jekyll, may I have this dance?
Lisa:
Dr. Jekyll, you may have every dance!
Utterson:
Henry, what is it?
Jekyll:
Don't make a fuss. Terrible pain... get me out of here... need to breathe!
Utterson:
Oh my God!
Jekyll:
Oh God, what now?
Oh God, not now!
Help me somehow, please take the pain away!
Feel it fill me...
This will kill me!
Please God will me
Somehow to fight, I pray!
Oh God help me
God have mercy!
Don't let her see
Not on our wedding day!
Lisa:
Henry!?
Hyde:
There is no Henry. Only Hyde!
Stride:
Look as this monster, Lisa!
Hyde:
And what would you have done with her, Stride?
Put her in one of your Camden Town whore houses,
and rented her our a shilling a time?!
Stride:
Damn you, Jekyll! Enough!
Hyde:
Enough, indeed. End of game!
We seem to be married, my love. Ready for our bridal bed, are you?
Utterson:
Henry, stay back! Don't touch her! I beg you, stop... stop now.
Lisa:
Henry! Oh no, Henry!
Utterson:
Lisa, no! Stay back!
Lisa:
Henry. It's me! If this is you... show me!
Danvers:
No, stop him!
Hyde:
Stay! Or she dies!
Lisa:
Henry! I know you don't want to hurt me. I know you can hear me. Let me go!
Henry, please. For us. Let me go, please.
Jekyll:
Do it, John. I beg you! Set me free!
Utterson:
I can't, Henry.
Jekyll:
We promised. Remember?
Utterson:
Forgive me.
Lisa:
No! No!
Hyde/Jekyll:
Lisa... Lisa... Lisa...
Lisa:
Go to sleep, my tormented love!

technically speaking, he did try to s*xually assault Lucy in the song Alive whilst he was still mostly Henry and spoke of him already enjoying this new form of himself, also in the book he was a bit of a pr*ck. But in all honesty, I agree with your statement when in reference to Jekyll for most of this musical, just a few times (namely the time with Lucy not to mention he willingly cheated on his soon to be wife with her) he big sucked.

Ever heard of a shotgun wedding?
It psyches you out for 45 seconds, indulging in the vain hope that everything will turn out alright...
And then promptly stabs you in the back as it all goes to hell. :(
Wouldn't you rather Hyde die and stop these murders, with the sacrifice of Henry, rather than continue the harm of Henry's mental health, and physical and murder others? I think in its own twisted way, it had a happy ending.

It seems like a lot of people think Lisa is a boring love interest compared to Lucy, but I have to say-it takes a lot of guts to talk down the monstrous, homicidal maniac who a few minutes ago was your new husband.
Perhaps but she’s still boring
She's brave but yeah she's still kind of boring
Lisa/Emma was the more developed female character in earliest iterations of the musical. She had more songs, a deeper storyline, and was the focal point of a lot of the conflict (being Jekyll’s emotional anchor, the reason for finding the good and separating the evil in man, and the reason to stop Hyde so she doesn’t get hurt.) Linda Eder sang both roles when she was first cast because Frank Wildhorn wanted one actress to play both roles to mirror the dichotomy of Jekyll and Hyde, but it wasn’t physically possible the way the story was structured. But because Linda shined as Lucy, Lucy ended up becoming more prominent.
I do agree that Lisa/Emma is poorly written compared to the other characters, but that also might be due to her archetype. The sympathetic love interest is almost never flawed, which makes for an unrealistic and uninteresting character. She has no flaws and therefore no real character arc or redeeming qualities because she needs no reform. She’s not weak and timid, as she says so in her introduction in the story, so her becoming brave by confronting Jekyll in his lab and again at the wedding as Hyde isn’t a turning point for her. She doesn’t change or grow as a person the way Jekyll and Lucy do, which may be intentional so she can simply serve as the emotional anchor for Jekyll and nothing else. But to play the part well, an actress must decide for herself what Lisa/Emma’s motivations are. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will probably never play Lucy, only Emma, so I would really like to play up her frustrations with the fact that her position in the story is entirely dependent on her relationship to every male character in the story. Andrea Rivette did a good job of this. As for her timidity, that can be played up and as the show progresses, I’d try to show growth through her reluctance to support Jekyll. I find it hard to believe that even she would be 100% okay with Jekyll’s behavior.
@Rune Age Mage That feels like a very unhealthy collective mindset to have.
@Rune Age Mage That's less to do with flawed being more interesting and more to do with being a power fantasy for women to indulge themselves in.
Anthony Warlow can even make screaming sound good.

(Idk might be me lol, or tbh I didn't really read through all the comments either)
"Oh my god" I think it was at that moment he realized he just lost his best friend. He wasn't concerned about Hyde, he was scared for Henry.
Jupp. Also I think Utterson should have a bigger role in this. I mean... He's the main character in the book after all.
@@SomeSaltyWriter It's not Henry Jekyll??? I've heard the books and the musical are practically nothing alike tho so it doesn't really surprise me
@@kingmerpyderp5947 He's not the narrator but there are a lot of things that make me belive Utterson is the protagonist. The story followes him, a lawyer and good fried of Jekyll, trying to find out who Mr. Hyde is. I can't explain whether it's his voice, the cinematic-quality orchestra, or the reactions of those around him...but at usual, THIS version's ending achieves the true mood of the scene. It's just so heartbreaking to see (or hear) his passion and warmth dying with him. "Go to sleep, my tormented love." always seems to get me and bring me to tears and I don't know why!! Can someone please get me a tissue?
Okay, first of all, OW. Second, this entire show is basically me screaming at Jekyll that he's engaged. Third, this was so beautifully sung/shouted. Painful, but really well done. And of course Hyde showed up to ruin everything again, but still. This is probably my second favorite adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde. The romance was so strange to me, and yet they somehow made it work and used it to further show the contrast between Jekyll and Hyde. All in all, a pretty darn good musical. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing though. Like Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd mixed, with a few dashes of Les Miserables thrown in.
This is the most saddest ending ever, John killing his own Friend to save Henry from Hyde, Henry to die in order to be free from Hyde especially on His wedding day and Lisa for losing her newly wed husband on her special day. That part gets to me everytime I watch it.😢 If I were to change the ending of this musical, I think that he should asked John to help him with the antidote and use it if Hyde ever gets out of control again.
But this was made from a tragic tale, in tragic tales, there is no true happy ending sadly 😔

Agreed.
What's the name of the of the book
Marie Alonso “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson
Looking back on this and listening to this multiple times on repeat (after downloading it through iTunes)- there’s a lot to this scene. I feel that Hyde, despite everything he’s done, wouldn’t have harmed Lisa at all even though he threatened for her to die. He clearly has feelings for her, as he pretty much defended her (and himself) when Stride called him a monster. I’m in no way trying to make light of a situation. But, this gave me a lot to think about.
When he says end of game, I imagine Hyde stabbing or beheading or snapping Stryde's neck
+Calamity Griffin Well, he does kill him, so that's entirely plausible.
Like, he just takes his cane and stabs through his chest, or he grabs him, something slow, as the gasp is a bit delayed
+Calamity Griffin I imagine Hyde at this point a bit more beasty and have like slightly longer nails and uses them to tear his throat out with one swift slash. Afterwards he looks at his bloody hand and sees the wedding ring, reminding him that he has interrupted Jekyll's wedding day.
Gh, taht sounds amazing! Or he bites out his throat

I love this song from the soundtrack the most. It's so impressive. I've watched it so many times now that I've started saying the "not on our wedding day" quote at any minor inconvenience I face
I was listening to this for the first time at 2:00 AM, so I was tired and could easily get feels.

This version didn't need Lisa/Emma singing "You are free now you're with me now, where you'll always be" at the end. This was perfect.
ANTHONY, EVERY TIME, STOP MAKING ME CRY YOU TALENTED AND AMAZING MAN
I love how John says "Forgive me?". He doesn't want to shoot Jekyll and despite being asked by Jekyll himself to do it, John asks in a way of "Will you forgive me?", with an touch of apology in his voice. It makes the whole scene even more tragic. The singers made an fantastic job.
I wouldn’t want to shoot my best friend no one would
it gave me so many feels the first time i heard the song, but then i imagined John saying “Forgive me” to LISA, as if he’s asking her forgiveness for shooting Jekyll, and it gave me even more feelings

I love the Broadway and Resurrection versions of this show, so I was thrilled that someone had posted the entire concept album. The thing that I love about this version is that they elaborated much more on the dichotomy between Jekyll and Hyde, AKA the thing that the story is about. It's too bad that when the show ended up too long, they cut a lot of that out in favor of the romance subplots, which weren't all that deep in the first place.
