It just don't get any better than Bill Monroe and hard driving' bluegrass music! Thank God you put it UA-cam! Thank you! Now, if I can only find traditional bluegrass pickers in San Antonio!!!
Thanks very much for your comment, John. It's gratifying to know that there are people out there like yourself who are enjoying "The Father of Bluegrass" from my dusty old VHS cassette.
Always what a show from Bill and the boys!! I followed him on his east coast Festival tour in my 69 Beetle late 70's early 80's for a few years! Always the best show at the festival!!
I saw Bill Monroe and his band perform live at the Grand Ol’ Opry several years ago late in his career. I was such a jug head that I stood up and yelled out a request, failing to realize that the show was going out live across the country on WSM and WSM-TV locally. Bill didn’t miss a beat but gave me a well-deserved death stare which I’ll never forget. 🤦🏼
I must tell you how wonderful it is to see Ricky Skags. You left a permanent impact on Ricky. He speaks right up boldly about Jesus Christ. From the depths of my soul, thank you Bill. Boy we need more people like you and Ricky. Thank you brother. I know you r seeing this clip in heaven. Someday soon I'll get 2 meet u brother.
I can never tire of listening to this great man and some of the best musicians that ever graced the stage.!! All you have to do is look up some of the folk's that started out working for Bill. And I've never heard any of them have a bad thing to say about him. He ran a tight ship but a fair one. R.I.P. Bill, look forward to meeting you in heaven some day.!!
The little smirk on Bill's face at the end of his solo on Bluegrass Breakdown says it all. "I'm the man and don't forget it" How many mandolin pickers from his generation and at his age can pick like that? I can tell you.....NONE.
I've alway's heard that his mandolin had a sound like no other. Also read that it was stolen once but was recovered beat to heck. The story goes that fender restored it for him for free and it sounded as good as ever. Think maybe the good lord made that happen. I think it was an f9 fender. Can anyone confirm that.?
@@douglasgay4497 Monroe NEVER owned a Fender product of any kind. His mandolin was a 1923 Gibson Lloyd Loar F5 he purchased at a barber shop for $150.00. Easily worth a half a million or more today due to the historical nature. I've had the pleasure of playing a Lloyd Loar 1924 F5. It was like holding the Holy Grail of mandolins. I'm a banjo picker and guitar picker by trade but play "at" the mandolin. The Loar in my hands me be suddenly feel like I could actually play the thing! I've said many times that it damned near played itself. Here's a link to a quick story on his mandolin history. Enjoy: www.angelfire.com/ky2/mybluegrass/BMFMANDO.html
@@47Banjoman you are 100% correct. My mistake, thank's for getting me straight on that. Didn't Ricky Scaggs inherit that from Bill.? If not where did it end up.? I do know one thing, Bill really was brilliant, could listen to him all night. Stay safe, and thank's again.
@@douglasgay4497 It currently resides at The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville for all to visit and see. A Philanthropist purchased it and donated it. Thank God for that.
@@47Banjoman The link you posted was written a long time ago and is full of errors. The mandolin did sell first to Mercer and investors for $1,125,00.00. Mercer defaulted on the note and it ended up with another seller, the philanthropist (who turned out to be a ponzie scheme scammer, who later committed suicide when he was caught by the Feds) who purchased it for that same price and then donated to the CMHF. Skaggs never owned it, but did have Gibson Co. to make a copy from one of his Skaggs signature model F5 into a replica of Monroe's worn F5.
Kentucky mandolin here @10:55 is unreal. A work of art. Bill leading the band with the headstock of his mandolin. Butch Robbin’s break is perfect. @12:13
Saw Bill Monroe with this same line up at beautiful downtown Bean Blossom Indiana. For the evening performance, Ricky Skaggs joined Bill Monroe along with Dr Ralph Stanley. I was brought to tears.
Take a good look at the best of the best. Bill Monroe will always be a legend.
Kenny's fiddle playing is sheer perfection throughout!
Absolutely!
Kenny was the best
G.O.A.T.
There’s a reason Monroe called him the greatest fiddler in bluegrass. Thanks for posting this!
Kenny who? Excellent
I am amazed every time I hear him, what tone, what creativity!
You're absolutely right....Good afternoon how are you doing over there hope you're having a wonderful day it's a lovely day that the lord has made.
I'm Dennis Raymond from Los Angeles California if I may ask where are you from?
That's the Great Kenny Baker on fiddle, the greatest fiddler ever IMHO. Kenny was from beautiful Jenkins, Kentucky in Letcher County!💕💕
The most melodic fastest innovative all at once fiddle player to grace bluegrass then and since.
I love him but Vivaldi's got nuthin on Mr. Monroe
Without Kenny, the bluegrass boys would be half the band then.
Doesn't get any gooder then this @@piezoification
