Thanks girl! I’m a welder and I’m trying to learn how to pipe fit but no one wants to teach so I’m scavenger hunting through UA-cam and this helps.

Great video. But the comment about mate references (and in particular the "Edge" mate reference) being used to size components is not true. It's the CPoint which carries the component's metadata. The fitting uses a design table variable called "Diameter@CPoint" which it cross references with the route's pipe variable "NominalDiameter@FilterSketch".
Further, mate references themselves don't play a role when inserting a component onto a route sketch. The official help documentation says, "Mate references are not used when you attach a component to the route sketch." You can test this by simply suppressing all mate references (for all configs) for a flange component before inserting it into an existing route. You can even insert a pair of flanges onto a route sketch and they will "snap" together because it uses the RPoints to locate, not mate references.

I tried to make custom duct (rectangular with rounded corners) and it just didn’t workt to transform it into routing tubing or piping also not in Hvac duct omebody any suggestions?

Are mate references necessary for custom fittings in a routing application? It looks like they are only needed for starting/ending fittings (like flanges), threaded fittings, etc.

Great video! What if you already have all your parts & fittings, but just need to start with the flexible tubing subassembly?

Very good video, but I am on an Student Edition of SolidWorks and I click "Tools" and do not see "Routings" and under "Options" I don't see "Routings" there either.

It is likely that you need to load the routing add-in. This procedure is shown at 8:42 in the video

Do not purchase a premium license to get access to routing, youll be wasting your money. There is a reason why all the demos have the same fittings and parts in them, because only a very limited set of fittings are supplied with routing, youll be required to create your own fittings which will lead to all kinds of issues your VAR wont help you with. You cant rename the assemblies it creates of pipe work and it will create new assemblies for each run, regardless if its connecting together. Then youll get routes that simply refuse to populate with fittings, my VAR couldnt even get a 45 degree elbow to work, lots of frustration and money down the toilet when you can create much more flexible and robust pipe routes with 3D sketches and weldments.
