I really appreciate the fact that you show off-the-beaten path places and interact with the locals. UA-cam is too oversaturated with superficial travel vloggers who just film themselves visiting all the well known tourist points of interest and eating taco after taco.
Your journey into the badlands revealed a neighbourhood full of gracious people and will hopefully change many opinions people might hold against Tepito. Doña Queta was such a kind and caring lady with a heart of gold. Fantastic video! 😃
Gosh, you are brave. Most Mexicans have never been to Tepito because of its really bad reputation. I lived in Mexico City for 5 years, and I never ventured myself, even though I heard so much about the famous 'antiques' market and 'designer' clothes (good knock-offs). I guess Tepito would be like our Chinatown, here in New York (sans the antiques). Great experience. Thanks to you now I know how Tepito looks like. Funny. Cheers
Thanks for the video! Like you, I've also found that if you treat people with courtesy and respect, most neighborhoods in big cities are fine to explore. I'm more careful at night - but I'll visit Tepito on my next visit to CDMX, it looks interesting. My advice to travelers is usually that one of the most important things to do when you visit another country is to learn the forms of politeness there, and be relentlessly polite - yes, you may see local people abbreviating or omitting politeness with each other - but you're not local, and you're a stranger, so be polite! A smile and a "buenos dias" or "buenas tardes" when you enter a shop or make eye contact with someone on the street will greatly smooth your visit. The locals in Mexico City tend to be more abrupt, and less outgoing, than in many other parts of the country, but they certainly know the polite forms, and they treat you better if you are polite in the Mexican way. .
First video of yours I've watched. I came to pray to Santísima Muerte from a Hispanic friend while living in my home state of Texas. I've always wanted to visit Tepito one day because of its importance as a center of devotion but probably wouldn't go alone because of what I've heard. You're extremely lucky to have met and talked to Doña Queta. Thank you for being so respectful and even bringing cigarettes - you didn't have to. I'm grateful for the video, as it was like being there myself. I'm really glad it was a positive experience for you.
Enjoyed your video. I live in Mexico City, have lived here for 8 years. I’ve only been to Tepito once. Your video was fun, thanks for taking us through that experience!!
I went there a couple of weeks ago and while we were eating, 1 tattoo'd guy was staring me down for no reason. It did kind of freak me out a little bit, and we ducked-out of there. Although I've never had any issues after 11 years, I try not to make a habit to go there that much. You will definitely find things priced very low there. The people were running because they were selling products illegally on the street. In fact, if you noticed, they're all connected with radios, and they have actual lookouts that signal when the police are getting close. If caught, the police will confiscate their products, I've seen that happen as well. Secondly, you will feel safe walking around, but don't forget that things can and will change in an instant. Especially given the fact that you are a foreigner, there have been known instances where foreigners have been kidnapped and held for ransom- in Tepito. I will also say you were brave to have your haircut there with someone having a razor on your neck.
Really great video; thanks man. I wish all gringos were as respectful and genuinely curious about other people's lives and culture as you demonstrated here. Makes me proud to be a cdmx-loving gringo myself. Keep up the great workl
I'm loving these videos. Most travel blogs are the same, go to the same "bucket list" type places and show the same stuff. I want to see how people actually around the world, you do a great job showing that.
In general, I always get worry when UA-camrs go to dangerous places/neighborhood across certain countries. I’m glad you’re okay and nothing happened to you. You and Finn in the future should do a collab in México! :D
I am glad you made this video to show the world, how bad they make people think Mexico is, when in reality Mexico is not that bad, it's actually a beautiful country to explore.
Woow!! I admire you!! you visited one of the most dangerous places here in Mexico City! I wouldn't do it even though I'm mexican!! greetings I like your positive vibe!!
Hey I’m going to Mexico this week which market do you recommend the most for the best fake designer and brand name clothes etc thanks reply 🙏🏽🙏🏽 great video btw
If everyone in CDMX is this awesome, I’m moving there! Lol. I’ve always heard of Tepito (never actually seen a video of it, though). The tianguis reminds me of “El Baratillo” of Guadalajara. So many memories. 💚
yeah I thought that was really cool. The story I was told that it was the police whistling when they see criminals, but when I get to Tepito the tell me it comes from when the criminals see the police haha
if you walk street "Tenochtitlan" or street "Jesús Carranza" in Tepito, you'll have many offers of weed, specially with that tshirt, most buyers of weed in Tepito are musicians... but yes it can be dangerous, i've seen "Chineros" (search that word here in youtube) stealing people in "Eje 1", the avenue that you walked, at day with people passing... be careful.
Tepito does have a bad reputation, but where did you get the idea that it is the most dangerous part of CDMX? Basically any part of Itztapalapa makes Tepito look like Condesa.
Your ongoing comments about not feeling threatened really don't help. People rarely "feel" threatened when bad things happen, that is what makes those things possible. Whenever I have been robbed or pickpocketed it has been in a neighborhood where I did not feel threatened - most recently in Roma Norte. We are usually much more aware when we know a neighborhood has a bad reputation.
They really frown upon filming in Tepito. I wouldn't go there by myself. I would probably hire a tour guide. You would stand out there. Not the smartest thing to do.
I basically translate everything or the most important ideas. just because there isn't text on the screen every second doesn't mean it's not being translated
well let's, where shall we start... massive shootings latley in the crazy U.S. I have been to Mexico All the time. If YOU LOOK for trouble you Will find it. In the U.S. you go shopping and get shot. HMMM ,,, there's your answer....

Thanks so much, that's a very nice comment, kinda what I aim for, and very nice to hear!
8:41 this hug it's amazing.
it totally made my day if not week or year! :D

"You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em" 🎵
A child was just murdered in front of the Santa Muerta shrine by a rooftop gunman yesterday…
do you have a link to an article?

Thanks! :D

Wisdom from you. This is million dollars wisdom.. I'd definitely visit it
"Whoa, Tepito feels a little sketchy."
*guy holds a razor to your neck.*
"Okay okay it's safe!" lmao j/k
This is so beautiful! Thank you so much for having so much respect for Our Queen!
Santisima was with you the whole way!
🕯💀🦉🌹🚬🥃⚖️🕯
8:40 I saw this Lady on Netflix in a documentary about "Santa muerte"
what is she in?
NOT ONE PIECE OF TRASH IN THE STREET IN ANY OF THE BEAUTIFUL MEXICAN CITIES, MEXICANS ARE EXTREMELY CLEAN PEOPLE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
I've never been to Tepito so it was interesting to see from your perspective. Those cigarettes were suspiciously cheap!
thanks for watching!
I am glad you made this video to show the world, how bad they make people think Mexico is, when in reality Mexico is not that bad, it's actually a beautiful country to explore.
In doing my research before i movie from portland too mexico city. mecico city had less of a violent crime per 100k people than portland in 2020.
Woow!! I admire you!! you visited one of the most dangerous places here in Mexico City! I wouldn't do it even though I'm mexican!! greetings I like your positive vibe!!
thanks!
Tepito is like a 1st world neighborhood next to Iztapalapa, Pueblo Santa Fe, La Joya among others.
Got a question. The subways of Mexico City look wayyyy cleaner than those of NYC. Has this been your experience?
Great video. Your very brave. Now I know it's ok to go there, but be aware of your surroundings.
Thanks, Gerald! yes, always be aware of your surroundings :D
I'm planning to visit next month for my bday - This vid helped a lot, thx you -
Hey I’m going to Mexico this week which market do you recommend the most for the best fake designer and brand name clothes etc thanks reply 🙏🏽🙏🏽 great video btw
Tepito
Wow que impresión ver que un gringo se atreva aventurar zonas que mismos mexicanos no nos atrevemos a visitar, gracias por el video!
de nada, gracias por ver! :D
Great video. Can you tell me the name of the music played in your video?
If everyone in CDMX is this awesome, I’m moving there! Lol. I’ve always heard of Tepito (never actually seen a video of it, though). The tianguis reminds me of “El Baratillo” of Guadalajara. So many memories. 💚
Hahah great video! I wanna go and buy some stuff!
thanks! :D
Liked the older gentlemen 's story on the origin of of the name of the town. Tepito.
yeah I thought that was really cool. The story I was told that it was the police whistling when they see criminals, but when I get to Tepito the tell me it comes from when the criminals see the police haha
Nice video
thanks! :D

what are you going to do with your Santisima muerte statue now that you have her ???
Thank you
My housekeeper is here today cleaning my departamento in Roma Norte and she says you’re nuts.
says Patrick with the housekeeper in Roma Norte
13:58 what a sexy smile . . . 😍❗️
I've seen a lot of videos of tepito and the only thing i can always take away is the hot men there. the barber guy proves my point.
It's like going to Spanish Harlem, NY

your more brave than me, if your feeling the vibe... hmmm, no thank you ! Unless maybe with a few peeps... other than that very nice city...
going with people is a good idea if you can!
They really frown upon filming in Tepito. I wouldn't go there by myself. I would probably hire a tour guide. You would stand out there. Not the smartest thing to do.
I want to go !!!!
I've been to Tepito a million times, its not that dangerous. I also lived in Neza for three years😜
Barber was hot. Chacal 🥵
Looking good
thanks!
I guess that means I need to leave my Rolex home?! :)
haha that's probably a good idea!
If someone selling stuff tells you to not record then them it’s probably because what they’re selling it’s stolen. But, all others will welcome you.
It looks like fewer people in Tepito are wearing face cover, shame. Take good care of yourself.
thanks, you too!
It would be great having subtitles for the whole Spanish portions.
I basically translate everything or the most important ideas. just because there isn't text on the screen every second doesn't mean it's not being translated
It's not going there that's the problem its them following home that's the problem.
dont fuq wiff tepito
No te andes metiendo en esos lugares. Te van a robar o a quitar las camaras.
How is this better than living in America?
@Matias D.C something must’ve happened to him in America.
too boring!
because America sucks generally, and so do the people.
