    Sometimes remembering isn't even the problem! Half of the time it's because your parents do the math differently from how your teacher wants it to be done!
    In the great words of Mr. Incredible,
    "Why would they change math? Math is math. MATH IS MATH!!!"

    • @ozymandiaspbs
      @ozymandiaspbs 5 років тому +11

      That is because the parents learned Math & the teachers are ‘teaching’ Common Core “Math”. I used to teach HS Math in public schools - “Common Core” = “Crap” ( I teach privately now, REAL MATH, as it has been taught for 4000 yrs)

Some of the most intelligent people I know can't spell or do even simple math worth beans, yet they're successful at using what they do know. While you and I are unable to help with school stuff, we have decades of life experience and so have equally valuable contributions to make in their lives.

    My parents gave up on making us do homework eventually. In mum’s words “if you can’t teach them everything in six hours, don’t send them home and expect us to teach them”
    This was because mum realised that a lot of households ended up with huge arguments, and then the parents would just do it anyway, because they were too ashamed/scared to bring a kid to school without homework, making the whole thing redundant anyway.
    (Plus, as we were in primary/elementary school, the teachers didn’t even bother to check over it half the time; mum was a teacher aide, she saw the way many schools did it)
    And then my aunt gave up around that point, too.
    The crazy thing was, without the pressure on us to HAVE to get our homework in on time, let alone actually do it, us kids were much happier to do homework. True, we didn’t always get everything in on time, but it’s better to go to class with 80% completed homework that you did your best on, and enjoyed (somewhat), rather than 100% of homework you half-hearted simply because you were forced to do/complete it.

    Even though no one should be allowed to parody the almighty holy REO I must say this isn't bad. Parody after all is the highest form of adoration.

    This was fantastic, so funny and relatable. I think this is one of your best! My parents cursed the "new math" I studied in the 60s, I struggled with my daughter's subjects in the 90s, and my grandkids have this crazy Common Core?! It's a conspiracy, I tell you! Driving adults to buy "How to 'whatever' for Dummies". 🤪🤪💸 💸💸 🤯

    This past year, I had remote learning and spent about three weeks taking endless notes about Punnett squares and all that. I got no teacher instruction and had to teach myself with random youtube videos.

    The original song is REO Speedwagon's "Can't fight this feeling," right? I don't know the original song, but I looked it up. Lola was a baby in Christmas Jammies, she has grown so much.

    I get both the music and the message. It's not that the skills have changed. They've just come up with fancy names and confusing verbiage for what could be simple. SHOULD be. I helped my neighbor's grandchild with averaging numbers, but it wasn't called that. It took me half an hour to figure out that it was exactly what I was doing at her age.
