Haha really? For me I was opening a package with a pocketknife, the knife slipped and sliced the fingernail bed under my thumbnail. It bled like crazy, and then the thumbnail started growing out with a crease in it. True story 🤷♂️😆
That "standard" D chord is useful at times, but if I'm playing in D I usually add in an F# bass note (2nd fret on the low E string). Adds a lot more depth, and lets you do things with a walking bassline.
@@aaronjones4464 I don't mute the A with the F# on the low E After all, 'A' is part of the D-maj triad. So this actually gives a very nice 'first inversion' triad of 3rd - 5th - Root (F# - A - D)! Fits great in many, many songs ..
@@kylescott4 I don't know theory, but my brain thought suspended because there's a droning note in the G and A chords that's sticking out. I still think the Bm sounds happy 🤷♂️
Cool sounding chord voicings. Love open chords. This is a good channel - hopefully you'll keep it up until the algorithm picks you up and the subscribers follow suit.
I really like doing this in drop D tuning. For me the stretch on the upper string feels more natural and getting that bassy D in there when playing alone really fills out the sound. Love the vid!
I love these alternate guitar-chord "thingy's" and just any different way to play. This actually makes more sense to me as an intermediate player. Thanks!
Matt maeson uses these chords in live performances of a couple of his songs. I’ve tried watching and figuring it out but I never could. Thank you for this!
Absolute legend! I've been trying to figure out what these chord shapes were for ages. Keep seeing them being played in videos, but never knew what they were
Amazing, I made a song years ago, I could only play it on piano as there's a part with the Bm going to the A, except that the A was keeping the F# of the Bm. Now it comes without effort thanks to these voicings you showed, just by not moving the ring finger. Exactly the voicing I had on the piano : b d f# then A C# F# (think it as a add6 or a A13 wtithout 7th). Once you get use to it 13th chords are super easy.
CastleHassall has been doing these types of Chord variations for years in his songs about life but it's good you are showing people this i hope you have a good one!
😮 I resent that...My D chord is alive..... AIN'T IT JUST AIN'T IT 😜 lols I say all chords can become stale. But in the right crowd can come alive. You are Sharp no pun intended... Love what you are doing.
yeah, right? My D chord is alive and oh so well too bro! But 'Shhhh" .. don't tell this Id_ot that - he thinks "Not Many People Know" the guitars CAGED system, which is a basic fundamental to guitar playing ... "Shhhhhhh.."
I looooove using those voicings. They get really handy when you're noodling around and realize you need to jump to a chord. Sometimes these voicings are closer than cowboy chords or barres.
Root note on low E-string + B-string same fret (5th) + G-string same fret (minor 3rd) (or +1 fret for major 3rd) I can only recommend trying some different voicings and fingerings to get new creative sounds out of common chord progressions!
Smash your thumb in a car door? My dad has the same crease haha
Same with mine 😆

Yes, it certainly is. Such a wonderful tune by Neil Young. Thanks for the tip!
Amazing!!! Love Neil Young @@starjunkie5328
Sounds like a Steve Miller tune going up the country?
I learned about these chord progressions from the bridge part of When I go down (Relient K). Ever since, I have been playing this and it's worth it.
I love that band, and that album, and that specific song so much.
The G and A sound suspended, and that's the happiest sounding Bm chord I've ever heard! Those are different chords, but cool
The G is a standard G (notes G B and D), the A has an added 4th but is not suspended (notes A D C# E) the Bm is a standard Bm (notes B D F#) 👌
@@kylescott4 I don't know theory, but my brain thought suspended because there's a droning note in the G and A chords that's sticking out. I still think the Bm sounds happy 🤷♂️
