This man help develop my taste in music that’s hasn’t change I am now nearly 60 thank you 🙏 Mr Tony Wilson and the debt people my age owe you and the northwest Sir Antony H Wilson
I came here through my love of Andrew Weatherall a couple of days ago. I’ve not been able to stop listening and crying since, nor indeed have I wanted to. As a Glaswegian, whose love of his city is unbounded, I am nevertheless overwhelmed with vicarious pride and gratitude for all the music that has come out of the truly great city of Manchester. A litany of legends, all wrapped up by the maestro. Thank you so much
Brings a tear every time I hear this ……. Someone needs to honour the legend of Andrew weatherall
R.I.P Andrew Weatherall, say hi to Mr Anthony H Wilson when you get there, 2 legends of music, will never be replaced, forever remembered as pioneers of a generation 🙏❤
2 musical geniuses together now
Much love, to all the greats that have sadly left us, through no fault of their own...❤
If you think Andy's dead you certainly were not at his funeral.
How in Gods name can there be 8 DISLIKES for this? It's an ode to a man who gave Britain some of it's greatest music. It's also a nod to one of the greatest cities on earth, Manchester, you've so much to answer for, but we all still love you like we love our family.
Twats from the south.
the scousers
It gives them a hard on to sit there in their bedroom and wallow in their snivelling belief that they're edgy and the purest type of individual.
I am in Mancunia, right now, visiting.
I fuckin' love this place, so much.
Everything about it, screams the epitome of cool, without even trying.
Much like the videos, that accompany the beautiful words, itself...❤
They’re millennials.
I was born in Spain, but first time I went to Manchester I fell in love. Now, every year I try to visit the city and I feel it like my birth place. Thanks to all mancunians who also contribute to this, nice people there.
You could write a book on literally every subject and word mentioned in this poem. Total genius, and Tony, you’ll never be forgotten. Hero
And indeed the remixer.
R. I. P ANDY WEATHERALL 🙏💔
As a Canadian who started his 20s in the 1980s, this song represents so much of what was good music-wise at that time. The stretch from Manchester to a prairie city called Winnipeg shows that music travels faster that life itself and has more impact than a smart bomb. Factory Record’s offerings still adorn my vinyl collection as they are time capsules of great memories and emotion.
Absolutely feel this piece. Thank you.
Here Here ! I’m from Regina, I also started my 20’s in the 80’s Big fan of John Cooper Clarke and Joy Division. Travelled to Vancouver with a friend to see John Cooper Clarke last weekend and that was my first exposure to Mike Garry. Bloody magical 🤗
Sat in the sunshine at Reading in 98 and had a pint with him, linen suit was in top shape and he still was as giddy about New Order and music as he ever was. As a lad from Sheffield he made Manchester seem like the only place to be and he was right! Thanks Tony and thanks Manchester.
Tony took Manchester into a new dimension. He was a one of a kind. A generation will never realise how much he did
this gives me eargasms.... r.i.p Anthony H Wilson , sorely missed 😢
A legendary dj and a legendary mancunian in total harmony. may they most rest in peace.
Precioso tema. Tiene un dejo de tristeza.
Hermoso...!!!
I play this all the time makes me happy/sad,sooo many emotions all at once !
That's exactly what I think; even more so, seeing as I'm in Mancunia...❤
beautiful version, with Peter's bass. Immortal like Anthony himself. Great.
It wasn't Hooky who did the Bass on the recording it was a Bassist called Andy Baxter
I cant stop listening to this. So sad, love New Order, Andrew Weatherhall, his influence on Primal Scream, then the man himself......there was a big tribute to St Anthony on the local radio radio here in Dublin, Ireland last night....
Makes me cry every time I listen to it, such a beautiful 😻 track R.I.P 💚🖤
Heard this on Clint Boons set for Madchester stream after 4 years - needs to be played every day - brilliant track
I never met him, but saw him on Granada TV regularly and grew up listening to the bands he worked with. One can't deny that he was someone who could make things happen and his influence lives on.
grew up in Blackpool was 14/15 when the whole Madchester thing kicked off... would catch the train to Manchester ... eastern bloc, afflex, etc... then a few years later 80 state raves and the Hacienda .... it was, for about 5-6 years the most amazing city in the world ... Wilson was the driving force... Hacienda, New Order, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Baggy.... Oldham street,.. thanks Tony!
Will be missed Andrew
Fantastic, as a Manchester lad, think this is ace AHW championed Manchester to the world, long may his memory last in this Great City & the world beyond ....
R.I.P Andrew Weatherall ❤
Sadly missed, gone too soon ❤️
I couldn't put a number on how many times I've heard this but only just realised that Garry is working his way through the alphabet.
What's great about us true Mancs. We sit and watch worlds media come and go this week but its water of a ducks back. We love Manchester, tib street, the corn exchange, Jillies, just wanderin back streets up ancoats. Tony knew this cos he was a Manc
Speaking as a Scotsman, I'd love to be a Manc…….just for 24 hours, people!!
@Big Chap aww come on bigun, the divvies played their last gig here, new order played 2 of their finest gigs ever in 1983 and 86 at the tower ballroom, , can we settle on bristol??? lol,
proud to be a manc.......amen.
1st time I've heard that, pretty damn good, music is much a much lesser scene without both of these Visionaries #RIP

The most fabulous way of learning your Manchester A to Z
Amazing
Only just come across this, both A.W.s form a huge part of my record collection. I've been watching random stuff on UA-cam in the past fortnight and the majority of videos have been selections from Britains Got Talent and things like that, it got me thinking did Tony Wilson ever have anything to do with talents shows or programmes seeking singers and musicians? He had faith in alot of musicians that others wouldn't even bother with... I can't imagine the early 90's without Shaun Ryder and Bez - recently my Mum was able to explain to her friends who Shaun and Bez were when they appeared on Gogglebox, because she took an interest in my preferences of music when I was 13.
Weatherall came to my attention with Primal Scream's Loaded, he some how captured the Zietgeist of that era in that one track. Smokebelch does not get the credit it fully deserves, I've heard it in Clubs in Ibiza, in films, virtually everywhere! It is timeless and still sounds as fresh today as the first time I heard it way back then...
Beautiful xx
And still... no one has stepped into his shoes.
