Extreme UK weather: Coldest night of the year expected on Tuesday

Tuesday night could be the coldest of the year so far, the Met Office has said, as it issued weather warnings for snow and ice across the UK. The forecasting body said the mercury could drop to minus 15C in some sheltered Scottish glens, especially where there is fresh snow cover. The lowest temperature in the UK so far this year is minus 10.4C, which was recorded at Drumnadrochit near Inverness in the Highlands in the early hours of January 19.
