  • I talk about the Ronin Katana European model 13-2. The -2 version is identical to the base model but adds the Arabic markings from the Arsenal of Alexandria.

Thanks Matthew! Your comparison between it and the Albion Alexandria was big help before I bought this sword.

chuck a heavier pommel and cross gaurd on it, grind a bit of distal taper on it, polish, $400 sword turns into a $1000 sword

I think the quillon and the pommel are NOT steel. They are not magnetic, perhaps zinc?. The tang is smaller and narrower than the Harriet Dean sword. The pommel is also too small. Balance wise the DSA version is far superior, though both are blade heavy. The DSA version has better POB since it uses a longer handle, beefier quillon, and larger pomel, all of steel. The edge geometry on the RC sword I have is also not equal on both sides. I have not tested the Albion since it is out of my price range.. I actually like the RC sword. I made a different scabbard for it since the one that it comes with is pretty lame. But the sword does cut great. Mine is well put together, the peen in totally smooth whereas the DSA is a bit too proud and needed filing. The RC has held up well and has not loosened up at all.

not good heat tempering on that edge my friend

I believe you're right. I could see this style being really hard to get right on the temper with a very narrow margin of error between too hot and not hot enough.

Looks unsafe for hard impacts. The ricasso too wide and tang too small. And the spine looks too thin.

Ronin does a better job than DSA but their handle material is cheap and too light. Still better than a DSA.
