The death penalty and other institutional forms of discrimination is a step too far. And I'm a heterosexual male with no intention to support those communities. This is a clear infringement on free speech and dissent, and the consequences are far reaching for the rights of freedoms of all Ugandans. That's how I see it anyway. But I suppose it doesn't concern me, since I live elsewhere.

Uganda is somewhat like Russia, in that it has been governed mostly by very Authoritarian government. And some have been extremely brutal and violent.
Scapegoating is the learned deflection of the people over many years, in order to accept the harsh reality. But really, LGBTQ restrictions are just a tear in a barrel of water, compared to the brutality that has endured over the past 50 years.

The LGBTQ society now are allowed far more open expression and are arrogantly rubbing their very far from the norm abberations under the noses of average citizens. Obscenely so. Having been allowed a large measure of acceptance previously not experienced, they are now pushing general society to the brink of becoming obnoxious. They should reasonably expect this negative reaction to their childish behaviour. If they would only gratefully have accepted the tolerance to their preferred sexual activities, which is unacceptable to the average person, this sometimes overly negative reaction to them as a group would not have occurred.
I was born in 1943 and have experienced the whole spectrum of changes in attitude towards them. Also the loss to suicide of a respected friend on account of his family's attitude.
I have sympathy and empathy not only for their situation, but also for that of the majority of society. The arrogance with which they demand total acceptance and also the lack of regard for other groups feelings with which they exhibit their preferences in the face of a society still trying to be civil, is becoming annoying. Therefore the hefty opposition they are encountering in more conservative circles.
A more mature approach to the sensitivity of the general population in which they find themselves would go a long way to breeding understanding for their emotions and pleasures.
