  • Thailand sleeper train bangkok to chiang mai could quite possibly be the best way to travel! The tickets are just under $30 and it takes a bit over 12 hours to get from destination to destination. In this Thailand vlog I show you the full experience of what it's like traveling with a 2nd class overnight train.

    Have done the 2nd class train in the other direction twice. And the first class train Chiang Mai to Bangkok once. In my experience they turn the air con off around 2.00am and it can be sweltering and uncomfortable. If travelling in 2nd class on the older trains be aware that they let in a lot of diesel fumes through the grille on the door which is horrible to breathe all night. Try to avoid booking the seats/beds at either end of the carriage for this reason. And the blankets aren't new, they're just freshly laundered and put in a plastic bag-still nice though that the linen is as clean as it is

    I did the older sleeper trains back in the mid 2000s - when they weren't so old! Very similar concept, just less electronics. Great experience, very comfortable, relaxing and great value for money. I also seem to remember that breakfast was included in the ticket back then, they came round with a little paper tick sheet the night before and you had a tasty breakfast waiting for you when you woke up at 6am?

      Ahhhhh Travelling to Thailand must have been so amazing and different back in those times, I always love when people tell me stories of the olden days and how much it's changed now. They came with little menus the night before and had us choose what we want for the next day, exactly at 6 am like you said hahaha

      Yes! Remember the dining car back then? They prepared fresh food you could eat by an open window. And sometimes a wave of chili came out from the kitchen, making you sneeze.
      Yes, today too many people think they have to use the trains... that is overtourism.

    I took a few trips from Phitsanulok to Bangkok before (about halfway, I boarded around midnight). I could barely slept, think I slept just 2 hours. May be because of all the rockings and how they don't TURN OFF LIGHTS!!

    You lucked out that 1st class was sold out. 2nd class is by far the BEST way to go.

    • @Travel_chronicles
      @Travel_chronicles  7 місяців тому

      How come you don't like first class? I've always thought having an entire room to myself would be amazing

    • @nragan1000
      @nragan1000 7 місяців тому

      @@Travel_chronicles You would have the room to yourself yes .but that would be all you have. You would be stuck in a tight quarter for the entire trip. Since you have no seat outside that room you would have no choice but stay in that room for the entire time. In 2nd class as you know you had freedom of movement to roam about.. enjoy fresh air.. interact with ppl on the train.. go to dining car.. even just hanging out at car steps poking ypur head outside the train and enjoy the scenery.
      Traveling at night you dont need the AC. So having the AC wasn't a big deal.
      And if you travel during the day .. there would be food sellers at many stops offering snacks + food outside the window. You would miss all the activities if you were stuck in first class.

      Hey so I directly got my ticket from Don Mueang station ticket counter its self a few days in advanced so that's why my train left from there, But I know there are other stations that the train leaves from, The ones you mentioned I'm not familiar with, I think you should double check because the ones you mentioned might be at different stations

      That's actually such a headache, but what I do is just book an extra day before I arrive so that the room is ready, small bit of money, but a big relief of my shoulders

      Hmmmm not sure why, could be for safety reasons, But a simple solution to that are those eye covers, Perfect for situations like this

      The light is one for safety reason. 1. passenger go to toilet at night 2. Any stranger come to cabit. 3. Train officer patrol the cabin at night.
