Chipping from downhill lies in rough and when the ball is lying against the growth of the grass, and other unusual situations around the greens, please.
Makes no sense why an actual PGA Tour pro has less than 40k subscribers at the moment while we have other "coaches" with millions of subscribers. This channel is like the best kept secret around right now. Absolutely helpful tips for amateurs.
"Believe in what you do..," this wisdom is so well-said in the video that I must now start calling you Professor in addition to Captain. With these abundant observation details and experiences on green reading, this lesson is amazingly good. You're the best!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate all of your videos. People charge a lot of money for this information and aren’t nearly as good at simplifying/explaining things.
It’s Jan 2023 and I can’t believe this video has only 50k views. Should be 5 million views. I’ve started to use Paddy’s tips and they truly work. Of course they work becoz Paddy is a winner. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the game with us mere mortals.
To quote the late Christy O'Connor, your tips today "are simply brilliant and brilliantly simple" Padraig. And I can't believe I'd never, ever heard so many of your ideas today - especially on paying attention to colour and worn bits of the cup. Can't wait to put your advice into practice!
I’ve struggled with green reading for quite a long time, and this is by far the best video I’ve seen on the subject. Thank you for making these videos. It’s especially admirable, given your tremendous success in the game. You don’t need to make these videos. It’s obvious you do it for the love of the game and a desire to help the rest of us enjoy it.
My game can always be better and listening and learning in depth the little things are priceless. Lakes, ponds, drainage areas were taught to me and I have used that knowledge for 25+ years. The color contrast I’ve heard of but never understood it as clearly as I do now. I’m anxious to put it into my practices starting tomorrow. Thanks P!!!
This is like a free master class in putting! Thank you for taking the time to give us all this information that a normal person would have to pay a lot of money for!!
You are fantastic at explaining and simplifying these techniques, great video I'm going to watch all the rest of your videos multiple times, thanks a mill 👍
Excellent nuggets of golf wisdom. Love the "if you feel uncomfortable, you're likely not playing enough break" tip. And of course the dark=slow/light=fast keys. Will definitely be putting these into practice.
Always loved Paddy, I've learned more watching one of his videos than 10 of any others. His advice is so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this most valuable information that we might never learn or would take years to do so.
Thank you for sharing all this. Got turned onto these a couple weeks ago and the information is as good as anything out there and I know I can trust it
Good lawd, paddy videos are completely different level from anything else on YT, 5x better than the paid tiger videos FB advertises all the time. Paddy keeps up this channel and being so absurdly informative, he may just dethrone Tiger as my #1 fav golfer. Lol
Tour level tips, crazy to be able to hear advice from a player like Paddy so casually. Here in Florida all of these factors are in play, next hurdle is to understand the grain better but this helps tremendously!
Wow, great tips on reading the green. Hit a good approach shot to a flag yesterday but never thought about the slope towards the adjacent lake. The ball landed and bounced, left, left, left, and rolled on down into the water. Lesson learned. Thanks for the great instruction Padraig ✨🙏✨
WOW! These are invaluable, especially for a new player like myself. The time and attention to detail Padraig gives us all is phenomenal. Personally, I’d love to see something on different shots 150 and in that are above and below your feet and on a tight lie or deep in the rough and how you’d play them and what club choices to consider. I’m in Texas and I play in a lot of wind which can wreak havoc on those approach shots sometimes. Loved this tip and I’m saving it and will definitely implement this into my practice routine when I’m doing my putting practice. Thank you 🙏
You Sir are the best. putts with subtle breaks are the hardest to me. Big swingers are obvious and require attention but sometimes the ones that you'd bet are straight will break a cup one way or the other and you just cant see it....I guess experience at that particular course or hole solves some of that but its the most frustrating part of golf to me. Bust your butt to become a ball striking ACE and cant putt, lol.
Thanks Paddy, I learn so much from your tips ...tremendous!👍 Paddy, I struggle with wet condition approaches just off the green, I often fat the ball. I will use an eight iron when close, but from 23 to 30 feet I struggle to get close.
Thanks a lot for the videos your athletic ability ones have really revolutionised my game! Would love to see a video on chipping/pitching from the rough (everything within say 30 yards). Took me a while to realize you need more wrist set/can’t come in shallow etc but any tips would be great. Cheers!
Great video, Paddy! Elaborating on the Aimpoint method, what he was describing is called Aimpoint Express, and it’s a solid method to read greens. The one-paragraph summary of the method: Get yourself a 12” digital level (or the free Clinometer app on iPhone, but make sure the case has a flat back), and make sure it reads in PERCENT slope (not degrees like Paddy said). Train your feet to feel level through 5% slope in 1 percent increments (it’s easier than you think). Then standing at your ball, hold up the number of fingers together starting at center cup, and your aimpoint is the other side of your fingers. Change the bend in your elbow to adjust for green speed or up/down slope (arm straighter for slower greens or uphill putts). Taking an Aimpoint Express class is highly recommended to learn all the nuances, but it can transform your green reading skills and can be done in seconds without walking around the cup.
Respect your playing partners and don't waste time as amateur golfer with aimpoint unless ya elite scratch or better. Also walking on someone else's line half the time, again shows lack of respect. Any non elite golfer better to focus on pace and quality of strike anyway.
The tip about reading the cup- I finally tested it out and it's like a cheat code! It's really obvious at my home course but not so much at another one; maybe different grass? I read that this tip applies especially to bermuda grass.
Great info, Paddy. I feel like now I know what I am actually looking for when lining up a putt. I'd love to hear your thoughts on longer "lag putts" - Most people 3 putt from 25+ feet. How do you gauge a fair distance/line so you are within a couple of feet?
Paddy I am 100% with you on pulling the stick. I hate that everybody has to play speed golf now. For me a lot of the magic has been lost. Nobody pulls the pin anymore 🤨
Just watch how you elaborate green reading is valuable and inspiring already! This’s very useful for amateur golfers with four or more members in a gang with balls in locations around the green and frustrated following gang waiting for their turn, i.e. there’s not much time allowed for delicate green reading like tour pros. Thanks a lot PH. By the way, you just use your feel and not on other techniques like plumb bob, do you?
Thx Paddy. Insightful yet simple. Future tip suggestion. I’ve been playing courses where the bunkers r inconsistent. Some have more sand, some r thin on sand. How do U play green side bunkers that don’t have a lot of sand, or have compacted sand - I open the face and find my club bouncing off harder surface vs sliding h def the ball in these situations.
The more compact the sand the more of a V shape swing you need so has to punch or cut into the hard surface. As opposed to lighter sand where you slide the face under, usually works for me. You might want to be slightly more aggressive with swing speed too to enable you power into the hard sand.
If you wear sunglasses while playing, get ones with polarized lenses. They really help with noticing the contrast in colors like Paddy was talking about.
I know dark clours in green are uphill and light smooth colours mean down hill you can clearly see this just wondering on the breaking aspect of put what im looking for
What tip do you want to see next? Comment below!
Pitch n run! Runyans rule of 12
Chipping from downhill lies in rough and when the ball is lying against the growth of the grass, and other unusual situations around the greens, please.
Strategy global reflexion, the biggest problem is often between the 2 ears 😉
Pitching please.
Your setup for wedge play. 100 yards and in.
Pale is downhill, dark is uphill. That is gold! Thank you.
I reckon this is one of THE best lessons I've ever had!! Keep doing that thing Paddy! Your lessons are top top!! 👏👏👏

You’re a man who doesn’t need to give up your time so generously yet you do anyway. Many thanks 🙏🏻
I watched this and had the best putting round of my life yesterday! 😀❤️⛳️
"Believe in what you do..," this wisdom is so well-said in the video that I must now start calling you Professor in addition to Captain.

That's me in the red jacket with the white hat behind the green at Oakland Hills in 2008! What an exciting finish that was!
Finally! By far the worst part of my game is reading greens. Looking forward to putting some of these tips into practice!
So much to learn from Padraig. One of the best teachers around.
"It's far more important when you're putting to believe in what you're doing than tn being right." Thank you Paddy!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate all of your videos. People charge a lot of money for this information and aren’t nearly as good at simplifying/explaining things.
thanks Padraig
Thanks again for this 'Golf Gold'.
It's a complete mystery why UA-cam's algorithm has taken a year to push this channel to me.
I really enjoy your insights and instruction. Good tips for reading greens.

Brilliant. Thanks Padraig. I've learned more in a few minutes listening to you than I have in 50 years of playing golf.
This is the best tips for reading a green I’ve heard even after taking lessons for months at local courses

Valuable info and well presented. This should help on the greens.
Thank you, Padraig

Amazing ensite thanks for your time.
How about ball position when putting. I struggle with pulling my putts Thanks.
Pretty sure people will be watching this in a 100 years time. Good luck, play well!
Excellent. Some tips I’ve not read or seen elsewhere. All seem to help confirm what you see, which should lead to greater confidence over the ball.
Another great insightful video Padraig, learned something new today, 👍

Everything he said about putting was new to me lol. I'm going to check out these tips he's given here. I am a lousy putter so I can't lose.
Great tips! Thanks Paddy! God bless ya' lad!
I started using the colour of the green (light vs dark) recently and it makes reading the green sooooo much easier.
That was so awesome thanks so much!
Oh yeah been waiting on this video! Thanks so much Paddy! Can listen to your instruction all day!

What an incredible insightful video. All these videos are absolute gold dust compared to your average UA-camr. Hope there are more videos to come!
Excellent demonstration 👍
Great explanation 👌🏻
Fantastic tips thank you will be using this in practice and on the course.
Thanks, mate. Best reading green video I've ever seen. Superb.
The tip about reading the cup- I finally tested it out and it's like a cheat code! It's really obvious at my home course but not so much at another one; maybe different grass? I read that this tip applies especially to bermuda grass.
Great stuff! My goal is to reduce putts this season and this should help a great deal! Thank you.
My suggestion is some tips and advice on managing yourself(and your nerves) when you’re under pressure on the golf course.
Wow! New good very helpful information here (and I have been watching many putting videos)
Great info, Paddy. I feel like now I know what I am actually looking for when lining up a putt. I'd love to hear your thoughts on longer "lag putts" - Most people 3 putt from 25+ feet. How do you gauge a fair distance/line so you are within a couple of feet?

One of the best golf tips videos I’ve ever watched. Does the dark vs light and the burnt edge of the hole work on bent grass greens too?
Awesome advice, thank you 👍🏼
Golden!
This is what I needed. 🥂
Great tips Paddy! It seemed to be quite windy - how do you allow for very windy conditions?
Thank you so much, great insight into putting. Legend 😉

I’ve never thought about looking at the old hole
Great advice, thank you.
Partial swing shots with irons / wedge. When do u play them and why?
Padraig thank you this was gold.
Can you cover how to feel leverage with your driver when starting the down swing please.
Thank you.

Wow Padraig Im 5 min into ur video and ive already learned so much and im training to be a club fitter so I know a fair bit more than ur avg golfer.
I’ve never heard about changes in colour on the greens for up and down hill putts.
I know dark clours in green are uphill and light smooth colours mean down hill you can clearly see this just wondering on the breaking aspect of put what im looking for
