When I was 7 yrs old, we moved to a house across the road from a lady who had worked under Edith Head [Leah Thomas - don't know if her last name was Thomas back then], and she gave me boxes and bags of glorious fabric scraps from her career - and taught me how to sew Barbie clothes! Rhinestones, lace, silk, satin [really heavy - not like today's], crepe de chine, tulle, jacquard, damask, tweed, stuff I've never heard of before...the fabrics from back then were such higher quality than anything I've seen in my lifetime. I look for Edith Head's name in every 'oldie' I watch.
O yes, the quality of the fabrics was so much better in those days. NO synthetics whatsoever! The velvet for example always was cotton or silk. I myself avoid synthetic clothing since about 30 years. The very thought of all the minor parts of plastics coming into the environment and the sea and the oceans by clothing make me feel rather depressed.
Late 30’s early 40’s is where my style has firmly landed, and yes to keeping it a little more modern and not going full on costume. If only I could pull off the head scarf look! The Durells and original All Creatures Great and Small series always makes me salivate when it comes to the clothing. My 13 year old daughter just made herself overalls from an early 40’s vintage reproduction pattern and is competing at our State Fair with them next week after winning at county level. They are so darling on her.
I just love this style on you. The white silk blouse is stunning. You have beautiful skin and luxurious thick hair. This bob style on you is so attractive.
Always going back to visit the Durrells in that romantic location ...stoicism to the end...life is never what seems but giving it a go is what counts..
Hi Angela, These are beautiful silks pieces you’ve styled; congratulations on your collaboration with Lily silk..oh la la très chic! Tying a silk scarf on a handbag or around my neck is a person favorite. Your bedroom is a beautiful haven with views of your garden. Julie 🌷
"I am so dirty most of the time...." Well, me too!! And often I think, why bother about pretty. But after the sweaty chores are done, I often shower and throw on a sundress. Thanks for the inspiration, Angela. I just love that sporty polo. You look fantastic in it!
I loved watching all the seasons of the Durrells this summer. So this is a refresher on how much I loved the clothes and just everything about it. I like your finds for matching a 30s look.
Such a great video. I just found a sweater I want to make from the 40's. I am so tired of fast fashion, sloppy looks and tasteless pieces. I love how you put it all together!
Love it! I also am inspired by The Durrells and the 1930s. I live in a hot climate and my go-to fabrics in summer are linen and cotton. I'd be interested in a hair tutorial as I just cut mine short for the summer, too.
Bringing us this hybrid to our fashion sense can bring us into an era of clothing when fashion was stunning..when natural fabrics were only used..look up the Elliott Sisters another british series going back when.. loved your choice of outfits ..giving you a look away from gardening garb ..thankyou for sharing..
Love love your fashion you always look beautiful with your style 1930 my favorite to .love your home and your videos . As woman today it's a great feeling when we make our homes and our fashion our own
You would fit right in with a large hat or umbrella out on the beach. I can even see you solving a mystery or two! I like the look of the fabric..rather elegant..and appears to be cool.👒
As someone who wears 1940s clothing every day along with hair and makeup as they would have done in the 40s the word cosplay is more for someone portraying a character rather than wearing the clothes that people wore during an era of fashion.
YES!!! New member here. I am 75, have just found you and joined OW. Ordered 3 magazines, and binged on your story through videos! Yesterday, 7/14/24. I watched ALL your Paris Lives. I have some questions! (First is about the garden hose you once recommended.) Grace McConnell Mid-Alabama
i've been subscribed to your channel for a long time..since the first video i've been watching it... and also your best friend ms elliot how grown your kids are!!!! I love your farm...
oh, i LOVE this style and that show too!!!!! i am going to look for that skirt.. its stunning! yes to the hair.. i just cut my hair in a similar style and i too feel " liberated". sophisticated, no nonsense but easy breezy. it just works on every level !!
Silkworms are boiled or roasted alive inside their cocoons to obtain the silk. Lily silk is Chinese so I’d be very surprised if their silk is ethically sourced . Just food for thought.
I so 100% agree. The misery is that silk looks so beautiful...it is such a huge temptation i am not able yet to resist. I definitely do not eat animals, so i do my best.
I love to dress in vintage styles but with all the yard work we have (we have an orchard and a vineyard too) I am always wearing 'sensible, rather boring/old yard clothes'...pants/jeans, tops, long sleeves. Barely have a moment in the week to think of dressing up unless we make a plan to go out to dinner. I do dress up for church Sunday's usually. You look fabulous in all your styles! 🥰
Have you seen the 2005 film My Family And Other Animals based on the Durrell’s story? It stars Imelda Staunton and Mathew Goode. It is one of my favorite go-to movies, guaranteed to cheer me up if I’m having a bad day.
Im going full on 1900 to 1917 right down to the undergarments. 🤣 i do nothing part way. I would love to live in a 1854 to 1916 farm/antebellum/plantation house with gobs of land.
@@EsteeWalts it's actually exciting! I have done a lot of research and learned so much about fit, fabric, undergarments, etc. I enjoy sewing and creating again!
I love all these fashion ideas. Are these “going out” ideas, like date night? Since the pandemic my hubby and I are mostly homebodies. You have inspired me to up my daily wardrobe. I have so many cute summer dresses that I never wear and I’m going to start wearing them. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Girl, sometimes I'm simply SO GROSS from farming in the summer, I just get nice for the evening. Making dinner, glass of wine, sitting in the courtyard.
I usually don't comment on videos and I try to keep it nice; however, it really annoyed me when you called dressing in a vintage way/style "cosplay". How incredibly insulting for those of us who enjoy dressing in that way. That's a little close minded, it's not costume dressing to dress vintage. Perhaps you don't know what cosplay is and the difference between a style of dress and a slow way of life.😐
Old school Italian Nana would go crazy seeing shoes on the bed. She insisted someone would die Perhaps it was a subtle threat Aimed at the person who put shoes on any bed 😱👠🥾👡🩴👞

What a great and inspiring woman you are! Thank you for every minute of your work!
The Durells is one of my fav series! I’ve watched it several times. It was heart wrenching to see Louisa and Spiro’s unrequited love!
You should read the book!

I loved the Durell family! I was so sad when I finished the series. That silk skirt and the blouse with the pearl buttons are amazing!

Angela, you look glamourous, chic, and the clothes are gorgeous on you! I love the Durrells!
I had fun watching this and thinking about things I can incorporate into my wardrobe. I absolutely can't wait for the Princess Kate one!
Looking fabulous Angela. LilySilk 🤗 is a favorite, so happy for this collaboration. See you soon 🐝

Thank you for introducing me to the durrels on prime. I'm enjoying it very much.

The Durrell's. Love it! Her oldest son is MY OLDEST SON!LOL
Really enjoying your lovely videos. Thank you for sharing ! 😍🏵🐝
Love the 1930s style and I’m loving your hair! I wish I had the volume and texture, I need lots of hairspray to get that 😍
Beautiful. I have always thought of silk as a winter fabric and linen/cotton for summer.

Would love to see video on how to do a pin curl hairstyle!
You always look amazing Angela.😁👍🏻💄
My favorite era.. from. Clothes to music
Very fun looks. Love it. Blessings.
I love the outfits you put together.
Silk has a very low hertz, like polyester. Linen has the highest hertz number, which is healing, as well as cool for hot weather.
Lovely outfits Angela
You look beautiful in all the clothing you showed! Enjoyed the video.
Greetings from Germany, always nice to see you💜
Thanks Annie. I appreciate you being here.
Just lovely!
🤣😂😂😂Full Monty. I love you 💕😘
love this video. Thank you Angela
Love your style! You look fabulous! 🥰
I adore your elegant style!
The clothing is beautiful. I think my nails are also an added look we need to be aware of daily. I wear lots of gloves.
Just yesterday I sat down to rewatch the Durrels series. I love that show. Is there any look you can’t pull off splendidly Angela?! 💋
Great oriental rug next to your bed.
Love your styles

I do all that in dresses or skirts. Nothing long. Always an apron too.
Lovely. For the autumn, The Blechley Circle has the best 40's clothes. (PBS or Brit Box). Could you possible do a few styles from that?
Oooo good to know! I have Brit Box. Thank you.
Yes….sort of a soft nod to History Bounding. The 1930 style and silhouette is flattering on every woman.

Fun video! I love how red lipstick works on you! I tried it for a few weeks when I first turned salt and pepper hair color, but it just wasn't me.
Love this!
Beautiful looks 🌿
Not everyone can pull off a handkerchief on head it really looks glamorous on you I got to say🙂
Absolutely gorgeous 🤗

I’ve purchased lily silk for years
It's the 50's for me.
You look lovely. Very feminine & classic
All the clothes on that sight are beautiful I just wish they had more plus size options
