Hey you guys, Give some love to
    the lead guitarist Roger Fisher.
He was every bit Heart as Ann and
Nancy. HE WAS THE MAGIC MAN!
I saw Heart when they first went
out on tour, Roger was off the charts,
He was playing things that were so
    innovative. That whole band blew
the roof off. Give me the original
    band, Nothing like them.

I agree. to me Fisher was indispensable. the band lost much of its fire and soul when he left. They never were as good afterwards, and I progressively lost interest. At the time he was very highly regarded as a guitar player.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this was live. It was the video made to fit the studio version. As I was writing this, I heard you say you knew it wasn't live so....never mind.😉A couple of Christmas songs for you to consider: "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" by Small Town Titans & "Please Come Home for Christmas" by the Eagles.

This was written as an answer to some of the music industry crap that the few female rockers of the seventies had to endure, and Ann and Nancy dealt with more than most. Not sure how much has changed these days, but back then, there were lots of barracudas lurking everywhere.

I think mostly its about the owner of "Mushroom Records", the original label they were on. He released somewhat "Demos" of tracks that weren't fleshed-out and it was the actual 2nd album "Magazine", and I believe they took legal action. He may be the one also that Ann had said (he) insinuated at times, or wanted to think, the "Sisters" had a (air quotes) relationship with one another! And an ad in Rolling Stone reflected that in a photo with racy caption. Creepy dude!

I can personally attest to how amazing Ann sounded back in their early days. In fact, I saw them at Convention Hall in Asbury Park back on August 16th, 1977. Rick Derringer opened for them. While waiting to go in and see Heart, we found out that Elvis had passed away. Someone had a transistor radio, no smartphones back then. Heart closed out their set with "Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin and dedicated it to the King.
To hear Nancy sing lead, check out "These Dreams".

So good! Thanks for this. Saw them Nov. 1976 at Winterland in San Francisco. The lineup was Graham Parker and the Rumour, Heart (the "official" second lp "Little Queen", not "Magazine" with Barracuda was not out yet but they were starting to play it at shows which they did at this one), Tommy Bolin (this show was just weeks before he died in Dec.) and Elvin Bishop was the headliner. Amazing show! My girlfriend at the time got a little pissed that I wanted to get near the stage when Heart played. 😂 I think Led Zeps "Rock and Roll" was a staple of their shows even then.

Ann Wilson was sooo freakin' beautiful back then with that hair style too 😍. The riff was ahead of its time, would be a Thrash riff, palm-muted standard. The "Little Queen" album is becoming my favorite after some recent listens (as "Dog & Butterfly" has been my No. 1 for decades now). But that line-up that went up to "Private Auditions" (1982) was THEE "Heart". Its too bad their was a lot of animosity in the band. 1977 was a great year for AOR/Rock and Progressive Rock, and was the year I came back to California from Louisiana for 7 LONG years.
The band members ON "Little Queen" were (with the instruments they played):
    *Ann Wilson* - lead vocals (tracks 1, 2, 4-6, 8-10); flute (track 2)
    *Nancy Wilson* - acoustic guitar (tracks 1, 2, 4, 6-9); autoharp (tracks 2, 4); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); piano (track 5); electric guitar (tracks 7, 10); blues harp, lead vocals (track 7)
    *Roger Fisher* - lead guitar (tracks 1, 2, 5, 6, 10); mandolin (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (tracks 8, 10)
*Howard Leese* - lead guitar (track 1); Mellotron (tracks 1, 4); acoustic guitar, piano (track 2); vocals (tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10); Moog bass (tracks 3, 4); electric guitar (track 5); guitar (track 6); grand piano, string arrangements, string conducting (track 7); mandolin (track 8)
    *Michael DeRosier* - drums (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10); tabla (track 2); percussion (tracks 4, 8); timpani, chimes (track 10)
    *Steve Fossen* - bass (tracks 1, 2, 5-8, 10)
You guys NEED to hear a GORGEOUS track from this same album . . . "Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer" (but Nick may have reacted to it, but can't find it).
And a MUST reaction, look up; "Battle Of Evermore (Live) Heart HD" from 2003 Alive in Seattle (a much later line-up). Just as great as the Zep original!
Btw - Funny Lexi saying that Ann sounds like Geddy and could do a tribute. Heart got their award at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame the SAME time RUSH did! They were in shock at the cheers they received. It was later in an interview that Ann did not know their music (except what she heard on the radio) and then said "I need to listen to their music".
    Yes! MORE Heart!
    - Tony

  • @michaelmacdermott6340

That was definitely the recorded version of the song with live footage synced as you said.
The instruments played on Heart's "Barracuda" were:
    Ann Wilson: Lead vocals
Nancy Wilson: Acoustic guitar and backing vocals
    Roger Fisher: Lead guitar
Howard Leese: Rhythm guitar and Mellotron
    Steve Fossen: Bass
    Michael DeRosier: Drums
Roger Fisher is credited with coming up with the song's riff and musical structure. Rodger Fisher was a Madman on the guitar. After 1979 he was no longer in the band though and they had to replace him. Nancy usually plays rhythm and acoustic on most of the songs but there are times after Fisher left in 79 that Nancy played lead guitar on some songs. The Wilson sisters revealed in various interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish.

It was overdubbed to the video because the original audio track was damaged somehow enough to make it too noticable. But that doesn't detract in any way from how great they were live. The orig video with the compromised audio is out there on YT somewhere if you search for it.

The Boston video for More Than a Feeling and Kansas’ Carry On Wayward Son videos practically look like they may have been shot on the same stage on the same day.

Over the last few years I’ve become
a bit of a metal head and the main reason for that is a Ukrainian band called Jinjer. Their front woman Tatiana can do things with her voice that still amaze me after several years. The first lines of their song “Cloud Factory” sounds like Geddy’s voice to me.
I would love to see what you think of the comparison. Cheers from Texas folks! I love your reactions.

Thanks for reacting to this great Heart song. You commented that you thought Nancy Wilson normally played lead guitar and the solos. Nancy is an excellent guitarist and would occasionally do a solo, but it was usually when playing acoustic guitar. The electric guitar solos were mainly handled by Roger Fisher, as in this song, and Howard Leese. They were an amazingly talented band, both in the studio and in concert. Especially with their original band line-up, who performs in this video.

Hi Guys , love this song and this group is phenomenal. Their debut Album has to be one of the best debuts released by any artists. It is a complete masterpiece. They got into the Hall of Fame and did Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" live in front of Page and Plant. Heart have done numerous Led Zeppelin covers on their studio albums, but the best ever has to be , "Heart Live in Seattle > ' Battle of Evermore' " [ On u.t ] The performance is absolute perfection and the final 2 minutes is stunning !!! I have it on the live dvd and have played that track to death. It is just jaw dropping ! I just sat and cried, the 1st time I watched it, simply because they totally nailed it live ....and then some !!! Even if you don't do a reaction ...you need to see for yourselves. You will be watching again & again once seen. Byee Jim X ... The correct u.t video is by Rulie Arifin from 2003 "Alive in Seattle" - Battle of Evermore" With the title of the song on the screen as you scroll down.

This is badass but it is the studio dubbed over an actual show. Look again and you can find this song played live here. It's cool. Sisters chiseled from some fine Rock.

Nancy isn't the lead guitarist that dude is. She gets center stage with her acoustic at the beginning of Crazy on you. She's amazing.
This is just the studio album version sync'd up with live footage. There's a video like this for Crazy On You as well.

Hard to believe you have not heard this before, one of their most famous songs and all time banger. Try Magic Man live in the 70s, the original band was incredible. Enjoy the Wilson sisters.

When Heart was first popular in the mid-seventies, we used to say that we thought they sounded kind of like a female Led Zeppelin, so your comparison to Robert Plant is apt.

Never had a crush on Ann, but Nancy? Oh yeah, still do (she's my age and still HOT.) She usually plays the rythm and they have a lead player. (There are two other female guitarists singers near my age that I'll still melt over.)

You want Ann doin' some Robert Plant?
Find Heart's cover of "Stairway to Heaven"
I believe there is a video of that with Robert Plant & Jimmy Page in the audience.
Perhaps someone could chime in here with more details.

I was crazy about Heart in the '70s. The Wilson sisters are amazing, but I think the band lost a lot when basically the sisters pushed the original men out of the band. The music changed, and I think suffered, though Heart continued to have big hits.
