  • Dr. Chad Lee compares three corn planting dates, mid may, June 8th, and June 18th. Lee looks at ears and kernels to determine growth stages and estimates yields. The heirloom variety Reid's Yellow Dent is also discussed.

    What is the date of filming though compared to the planting times

    It is important to inform that we have 5 stages of the Milk Line, and to start the Silage is at stage 2 with 25% of the endosperm solidified and the Silage must end at stage 4 with 75% of the endosperm solidified. In the video, the oldest corn is at the Milk Line 3 stadium.

    In O.P. corn could you save the seed and plant at all three stages you had there ?

      In open pollinated corns (called varieties and not hybrids) they could be planted on all 3 sowing dates. Variety corns have more genetic diversity, but the production potential is lower than a modern hybrid corn.
