I remember seeing her before, but I didn’t know she was a 1st time with 2 wee cubs. I’m most pleased she found the 2nd one and you were able to capture it for us. Love bear and your videos + descriptions are THE BEST. Thank you for the posts.

How incredibly nerve wracking to be absolutely starving after hibernation, _and_ to have two cubs to care for, _AND_ never having had this enormous responsibility before! Then she actually loses one! And that poor little cub, alone and frightened and hungry....can you imagine the surprise and relief at hearing, smelling, and then _SEEING_ his mother’s massive form approach?? Talk about a humongous cavalry, lol!!

Geez, I became frantic for a minute! So glad she found her cub.

The small cubs are so cute, but I’ve seen them duking it out fighting over momma’s teats, even before leaving the den for the first time. That aggressive tough nature is cultivated so young.

I take these bears seriously. When the little cub was missing, I grieved. When momma found it, I rejoiced.

This female i held near and dear, I had been dealing with her since she was this young. For her to lose one of her cubs from her first litter devastated me. You could see the stress on her, and I spent an hour just mirroring her search so I could safely get on foot and search too. One of two things took place, the cubs laid down for a nap near the creek and mom started to feed without the cub. Second, the cub got swept through the culvert by the creek under the highway creating 150m of distance immediately. This situation though, changed her mothering instantly and I believe it was why she did something very rare, getting her first litter to release as two year old sub adults. She wasn't given much of a chance and she excelled.

@@TheBearGuyCanada Fantastic! You are a very dedicated bear tracker, and when you catch them, you shoot them the right way. As knowledgeable as you are about the history of individual bears, you might write the 21st century version of BIOGRAPHY OF A GRIZZLY.
These animals fascinate me on every level. A few years ago a Kodiak bear single-handedly shattered the "knowledge" that the giants had been isolated to the Kodiak Archipelago for 10,000 years. From one of the islands, he must have smelled something tasty, and charted a course for the mainland, 30 miles away. He swam the entire distance.
Shortly before this, however, a Kamchatka bear swam the same distance from one East Pacific island to another. The feat must surely have been repeated at least sporadically since the Pleistocene. Genetic studies could determine to what extent the Kodiak guy's swim has been made in the past.
You are a great chronicler of bears' lives. I appreciate your rsponse to my comments. If you are also mammalian biologist, I need to talk to you about a research project of mine.
      NgyPet50@gmil.com.
      Cheers.

oh my, she's fierce 0:11 I can't deal with the loss of cub but somehow when that happens they somehow find each other. She looks so healthy and looks like she was going to be an excellent mom in the beginning of the vdo for me lol When I see mom and cubs cross road and when 1 is missing or slow, I can see mom seems to always look for them or even when she lost one in the beginning, she searched for it, it always makes me wonder if bears can count?

Leash looks too tight on it's neck. Baloo bear, had a leash put on him, and by the time he was rescued from his abusers, his neck had already grown over the leash, and they had to operate in order to save the bears life, because the leash had been slowly strangling him.

    • @TheBearGuyCanada
      @TheBearGuyCanada  2 роки тому

Wasn't tight at all and she was monitored daily. Great care is taken anytime a grizzly is handled, and while bad things have happened in the past, great measures in today's standards have been taken to assure the safety and health of each bear.

I'm curious, how much room do you leave when you collar a grizzly?

@@TheBearGuyCanada *Quote:* _"how much room do you leave when you collar a grizzly?"_
Good question, but the only answer I can think of is, if they don't know how much room, perhaps that's a good indication they shouldn't be guessing with another creatures life. Is that what life has come to, that the powers that be, feel as though they have colar everything in order to protect others? Still, when a bear kills, the colar isn't going to prevent it from happening. The solution is not to colar the bear, but to stop stealing their homes from them, in order to build OUR HOMES which very few can afford these days.

@@haroldmcbroom7807 , you really have no idea, jump on a bandwagon without any information at all. I was asking you personally how much room, or how many bears have you worked with up close and personal. Why is there bear management? Or what is bear aversion? Do you specialize in bear behavior, or human wildlife conflict? My guess you have zero experience with wildlife. Keep scrolling on youtube and find a different crusade.....like global warming. Have a nice day.

@@TheBearGuyCanada I didn't mean to upset you by my comment, that's not why I made the comment. You don't have to be bear specialist, considering specialists get killed by the bears all the same. I'm just going off of what I've SEEN from Baloo bear, who lives at the Noahs Ark Sanctuary. You can find him on YT, just search "BLT bear" (bear, lion, tiger), but his two friends are no longer amongst the living, Baloo is the only one left. Don't take it so personally, I'm just worried about the bear slowly being strangled.
