Great review! I appreciate that you spliced in some photos of the original car. It's really helpful to someone like me, who loves speed champions for the building techniques but isn't much of a car guy.
I really liked your short aside about folks complaining about stickers. As a fellow kit builder I'm used to using stickers that are meant to fold around spheres or sharp corners, and usually don't stick as well as Lego ones. Ppl need to recognize the compromise in size, cost and quality, lego already make a ton of custom parts for this line. If they want more accuracy, they either need to buy smthn premade or get the paints/decals out :P
On the topic of the spoiler, they run a 4-inch spoiler with a 2-inch solid colour section (2-inch clear section on top) for road, short and intermediate tracks, and a 7-inch spoiler with a 5-inch solid colour (and again a 2-inch clear section) for superspeedways which are Atlanta, Daytona and Talladega.
As a nascar fan I love the Lego products we’ve gotten however I wish they didn’t only use the Camaro, they race mustangs and Camrys as well 3:01 short tracks and road courses have short spoilers, it’s superspeedways they get the big tall ones(Daytona talledega and atlanta I don’t care too much bout the paint job because you can always go and get the parts to customize it
Ahhh thank you for the correction; that's so counterintuitive & throws me off so much with the spoiler sizes! Just about every other racing class in existence goes with all the downforce on slower courses and trim out to the lowest drag setups for the big tracks. What's the reason for NASCAR doing the opposite these days?
@@JANGsLEGOreviewsit’s kinda confusing but the Super Speedways like Daytona need the big spoilers to create drag and slow the cars down. And even with the 570 Horsepower package (670 for the smaller tracks), they still reach up to 200 miles per hour in a giant pack. It’s all in the name of safety I guess, as they probably don’t want a sport ender crash. Now the reason the larger spoiler isn’t used on smaller tracks is because the cars aren’t going as fast as the Super Speedways, they only really pick up to about 100-160 MPH. Hopefully that makes sense.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews Because they're pack racing, NASCAR doesn't want them to go any faster, so they went with reduced horsepower and a big spoiler. It's turned the superspeedways into fuel saving exercises, and the reduced power means that even with a run, you can't gain spots jumping out of line. The big spoiler is a parachute.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews In NASCAR, short track racing is meant to be both about driver skill and pit strategy. By design stock cars are meant to be a handful on small tracks so they aren't glued to the bottom running single-file. To do this they usually run a short track package which includes a smaller spoiler as well as a softer tire that wears out quicker and loses traction. The tires in particular put a lot of strategy into the hands of the driver. They could run a real tight line which would wear out the tire faster and lead to a slower/looser car later in the race, a balanced line to have good speed but use some tire, or a wide line which would be slower but save a lot of tire which could eventually lead to that wide line being faster for you. If you ever hear in NASCAR someone has either a good shortrun or longrun car, it's usually referring to the setup around how hard they plan on running the tires. But anyway I digress. The spoiler is smaller on short tracks to make them harder to control in order to give the drivers more of an opportunity to show their skill at handling the car.
the spoiler is made bigger at superspeedways like that to slow them down much more for safety reasons. they are all actually restricted via the engine as well, which brings them all closer even together speed wise. the difference between 1st and 36th place in qualifying at the daytona 500 was actually like 1 second lol.
Used to be a much bigger NASCAR fan but I’ll probably still pick this one up just based on your comments about the build! I love that the windshield banner sticker has little winglets on either side to help you properly orient it across the windscreen piece, really nice little detail.
This looks like it was a lot of fun to build. I bet a real car with this paint scheme would have a lovely fading effect from one color into another that LEGO can't really replicate. I do really dig the flame effects on the front. I bet a street version with the flames and a solid color would be lovely too.
This looks ten times better than I already thought it would!! The "armchair enthusiasts" who hated on this don't have anything better to do, than hate! My mind would've been blown if I'd received this as a kid 🤯 because it looks amazing (as far as I'm concerned). 100% Guaranteed purchase for me
The color scheme is all over the place! I may be wrong, but I doubt that Nascar has vehicles that look like that, a single color or two would have been more desirable, but I do love the Camaro.
The way the front half looks reminds me of a Nascar Modified car probably because of the way that windshield just sits on top of the car without any form of curvature on the hood. I like the idea of having a bright color scheme for this set but I don’t particularly like the purple or the way the coloring is done in blocky segments. I feel like the stickers could have been used to make a smoother transition effect between colors instead of just solely adding the small flame effects.
When those start going on sale, I want to buy two of them as parts packs. Already got the City burger truck, so that'd give me 8 black fenders plus 4 yellowish orange ones and a ton of useful purple, yellowish orange, and teal pieces, especially teal as it's my favorite color and this set has multiple rare/exclusive teal parts. The printed camaro wheel covers are sadly a bit useless to me, but otherwise this set just looks great from a parts supply perspective.
Really interesting review. Thanks! You’re the second person to gush about the build of this set, so I might just pick it up. (I’m not a “car person” so the fact that it’s a good representation of a real car doesn’t matter to me. But I end up buying a lot of Speed Champions sets for the parts and the building techniques. I’d originally decided this one doesn’t have enough new parts or useful colors to be worth it to me, but maybe I’m wrong.)
Funny hearing your comments towards the end about your feelings on the new F40. You with your strong sentiment to the F40 and me with a strong sentiment to NASCAR both share the opposing view point on the quality of each. Seeing the previous stock car to this new one I think the previous one captured a truer paint scheme and had a truer shape then this one. JMO.
They introduced them last year. The Orient Express, Barad Dur, BTAS skyline, Amazing Spider-Man art, Gringotts, Disney 100 camera and mini Hogwarts Castle are some of the sets that use it
Pretty new, apparently! Bricklink says 2023 marked their first appearance - overall, and in that color; they use the nickname “Double Arrow” for part no. /3396. Think I learned of the piece through reviews of the Orient Express kit; you’ll see them about 7m40s into Jang’s review thereof
I'm more concerned with Lego cars looking good as toys as opposed to being realistic. But I think i actually prefer the look of the Lego model over the real life one here! The more angular hood is great!
As I was building the Ferrari F40 a lot of my friends were building this set. I wish there wasn’t turquoise. If it was just purple and bright light orange it would’ve looked more like one of those hot wheels cars everyone likes
I have to agree with Jang in this review - this is a great build, and for me at least, also ranks above the Ferrari F40. And while the colours are clearly not to everyone's taste, I just love it!

I'm fine with the wild color scheme, if it was in another year with another nascar to go along with it My problem is that they made a racing muscle car that would pair perfectly with the mustang from earlier this year if it were just a normal street car
The only thing I don't like about the color scheme is the black. If the flames transitioned straight to purple it would probably look a lot more cohesive.
Not sure that’s a useful benchmark: Mega clearly aren’t investing the resources in tooling or quality control that Lego are. Given the choice between Mega’s molding precision, packaging accuracy, and printed parts, or Lego’s molding precision, packaging accuracy, and stickered parts, I’ll definitely take Lego. Would I pay more to keep Lego’s molding precision and packaging accuracy, but have all printed parts? Maybe? I find I’m about 50/50 on prints vs stickers: about half the time I’m glad of stickers, because I can leave them off, and the rest of the time I wish they were prints. And with prints most of the time I’m glad they’re not stickers, but there’s a significant fraction where I wish they were stickers so I could leave them off and have a more useful unprinted part. Particularly for new molds. So what I really want is all the parts that I want to reuse for the design to be printed and all the parts that I would rather have plain to be stickers. But I bet those aren’t the same designs that you’d choose, and predicting which prints are the most reusable even just for the majority of Lego buyers would be near-impossible.
Really nice model and no issues with the livery. Not sure about the spoiler though. And what is up with the two studs on the side? Kinda spoils the clean look...
Lego has really been behind with making Nascar sets compared to F1. From my understanding we’ve only had this and the other you showed and both were custom paint jobs. I would love to see a Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty or a Hudson Hornet.
As an autistic guy who needs a huge amount of color in his life to feel stimulated, the color scheme of this car is just perfect for me. It's boring when a car just have one color, especially black, with a secondary color that appears one bit here and one bit there.
Despite the fact that I´m not into stickers nor speed champions models I do like this car for it´s unique looks and building techniques, not to forget the detailed and professional review style of yours. Wonderful!
This is a clown car gone hotrod. Or a Joker Hotrod. Watch out Batman! I'll wait for a sale or Walmart clearence since I need all of the Speed Champions to complete my collection of this year's releases. I do take breaks from SC due to the amount of stickers.
Sembo also uses UV stickers instead of these kind of stickers, which works and looks so much better imo and avoids these issues since only the decal is what ends up on the piece and the rest is just not there (not even transparent). I wonder why Lego doesn't do this? Would it be too expensive? Also, this set looks really good, the construction seems very interesting, screw taking a toy model too seriously, hah. Great review, as usual!
Love the color scheme of this build! The transition between & the outline of the hood to wjnd shield looks a little too jarring, though (especially when seen at an angle from top).
Not a big fan of this one. The look is just too far off for me. The tires are too small. Once again, tires size L O L. However, stickers do not bother me. Especially on racing livery. And everybody needs to remember…. The point of buying a Lego set is to get more Legos. The idea is they have as many Legos in your collection as possible. So you can build your own creations. You want as many unique pieces as you can get. And the last thing you want, Our pieces that you could use, but have a print on them. Stickers could be pulled off easily. Prints cannot. Also, I usually do not apply the stickers to my sets anyway. I prefer to build my models without stickers.
I absolutely love this thing, don't care much for NASCAR (or GM after what they did to Holden >:c ), but the build on this is borderline unhinged. The only problem I have is that before the external parts go on the front, you can actually notice the upper and lower sections flexing apart due to the slight stress put on them from the technique used. Not the end of the world, especially after all the bits around it go on and seemingly tie it all together, but it's still a bit worrying at first.
I will probably skip this one. I know NASCAR cars are build like this (using shells), but for me this design is too boxy and too flat. I do not like the colours either.
Jang's sticker placement is insane
I don't care about NASCAR or the Camaro, but I really like this set.
@@dinosaurgods same. I wasn’t considering it but the building techniques and the interior detail has won me over. Also the colors!

Purple SpaceMan!
Purple helmet and legs, to go with the CMF torso from a few season back.
We've had those before, but now in a Reasonably small set!
That purple crash helmet is a REAL treat. Haven’t seen that since Knights Kingdom II!

Like for not talking about vidiyo!
I will probably skip this one. I know NASCAR cars are build like this (using shells), but for me this design is too boxy and too flat. I do not like the colours either.
I'm not really into speed champions because i don't like applying so many stickers but this thing sure looks amazing!
