I need to thank James. This was my wedding dance with my husband in 1976. 45 years later and still together. When I hear this song it still gives me sweet memories and goosebumps. Still love it ❤️❤️❤️
He's absolutely right. I played that song for more proms and weddings than I can remember. It became a standard for every band doing those kind of gigs. Great song!
Color my world is our song. I married my high school sweetheart almost 49 years ago, and we are still going strong. Thank you Chicago. I hope you still read the comments.
As an elementary school aged kid during the 70s, I fell in love with the melodic instrumentation of the piano and the flute. Later as a teenager, I found the lyrics intoxicating. Today, as an adult this song is EVERYTHING and the 1st Chicago song that I fell in love with.
We had Colour My World played at our wedding in 1978. It was one of our favorite songs in high school. We both loved Chicago. Years later, our son around age 15 came to said come listen to this new band I found. It was Chicago. We both laughed and showed him our albums. I will always love Chicago songs. They bring back happy memories. Both of our kids listen to Chicago and hope another generation will as well someday.
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Great interview on Chicago, Joe. Too bad Terry Kath left us so quickly. Love their first album CTA . One guy I'd like to meet would be Bob Dylan. Without going through the archive playlist, had he ever been featured as a guest? Keep up the good work. John
I was fortunate to see Chicago 3 times in the late 90s / early 2000s, and it was with Walt, Jimmy, and Lee on stage. Robert and those 3 band geeks rock!
I started playing the flute in 1976 and was so excited when we were given this to play by our junior high band leader, as I had already heard it on the radio and my older uncle and aunt's parties. For a flute player it doesn't get much better than playing this beautiful song.
Awesome interview, Joe. Awesome. CMW was the very first "real" rock song I learned on the piano. My teacher told me it was structured as a Circle of 5ths, which I didn't really understand until much later (and still don't to be perfectly honest). It wasn't until my first year of college that another piano instructor showed me how to voice the song correctly. Although it sounds like it, it ain't as easy to play as it looks, folks!
Hi Scott... thanks for sharing your story. James is just so talented as a song writer not to mention his horn parts and arrangements are genius in my opinion. Thanks for watching... Joe
From 1970-75 I saw Chicago eight (8) times and the Ballet was always a treat because of its originality showcasing sharp contrasts of melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic changes. Incredible piece of music.
Great interview Joe, I just looked up JP on Wikipedia, had no idea he also recorded with Three Dog Night, Toto, and the BeeGee’s, what a talent he is! It’s obvious he gets a thrill a out creating and performing! Legendary!💫
I just listened to Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me which is one of my favorite Elton John songs and the horns really add a dynamic to the song; the song wouldn’t be the same without it!
Its mind-boggling how a song could be such a rock in the memory....Im 6 yrs. old again, early70s', playing in my grandparents home in Pico Rivera CA.,....I see pictures of that time, and everything is just so different, the geography, the sky, clouds, is it just me?
JP seems like a really nice guy. I remember when they first started as CTA way back when. The song Beginnings is still one of my favorite Chicago tunes, followed by Colour My World. They had so many hit records that it's really hard to pick just one song as being the "best". I saw them once in concert & they just blew me away. Without a doubt one of the greatest rock bands of all time! I heard a rumour once that the majority of the band members had gone to the Julliard School Of Music. However, I don't know how true that is. Regardless, each of the band members are truly talented musicians in their own rite. Thanks for the great memories Chicago & I wish that I could back to those early days............
Joe! I'm loving your channel! I'm lifelong friends with Mark McMurry, a great guitarist that never got a break. He spent a lot of time at your shop. Keep up the great work!!
Of the entire series of MHoFM interviews, these clips with Panko are (to me) some of the best. I love Panko's personality and enthusiasm/passion for his music. He seems like the kind of guy you could sit down and talk with "for a few minutes" and before you know it, two hours have gone by.
My wife and I both loved this song and made it our song at our wedding in 1978 It has been ours for 50 years. she is gone recently and will still be in my heart forever
From the time I first bought the 45 as a kid there's one thing that's always bugged me: why did they spell it "colour" instead of "color?" I could see if it was a British band, but Chicago?
Phyllis….. My band was playing at Opryland Hotel. I saw a girl in the front row I liked so I put my guitar down and left the stage and asked her to dance to Colour My World. That was 1979…. We’ve been married since 1980. Best, Joe
Back in the days of my youth, I used to sit in bars and just wait for Color My World to be played. I'd have my eye on who I would ask to dance when it came on, and it was certain it would, and if a girl agreed to dance to Color My World with me, I knew the rest of my night was guaranteed
Their Producer/Manager Jim Guercio told Terry's daughter that Robert and Peter thought Colour My World was lame and said "Let Terry do it". Terry was not excited either and recorded song in the studio singing lying on his back. Little did they know every school dance after that had to have Colour My World.❤
After winding up on the Fmaj7 towards the very end, I believe Robert Lamm just did a quick Bb/C7 (3 notes each) and walked it back into the Fmaj7. That's the way I play it, at least, and it sounds correct. I've tried watching YT videos of Chicago playing the song live, but I can't find one that clearly shows Lamm getting back home to the Fmaj7. I'd welcome correction from anyone who knows for sure.
To be honest, I think that "Colour My World" is probably the saddest rock song I know. It is brilliant, but it breaks my heart every time I hear it. (It reminds me of my late father, and of my long-lost brother.)
Ndlanding.... CTA was Chicago’s first album. Colour My World was on the second album or better known as the silver album and on this album they shortened their name to just “Chicago”. Colour My World, it was our song at Prom, 48 years ago....... me and my Sweetie for almost 49 years now.
of course! as it is for everyone else, and As Time Goes On I Realize ...
My wife and I danced to this song in high-school and our wedding. 1978 and 1979. At our 40th wedding anniversary .

Probably the most simplistic ballad ever written. Glad I heard it first hand from Chicago, late sixties early seventies. RIP Terry!

My favorite Chicago song. Reminds me of a girl I never had a chance to know. Always brings a tear to my eye.
Mine too. I learned it on piano.
Such a popular tune my Samsung wash machine plays the arpeggio and then I’m reminded of that golden age when FM was new.
Great story. Saw CTA in Philly October 1969 with Santana. Life altering moment in time.
Michael Scott I saw them at Nehaminy HS gym. It was incredible as the second album had just come out. I sat on the second row 🙏😎❤️
Thank you Joe for these wonderful interviews! You bring the greatest stories out of these musical icons.
Carole, my dad, Joe, would have really appreciated your very kind words and support for the channel. Hope you can visit the museum too.

danced to colour my world in about every school dance i went to, played it at many weddings latter on.
We Blew Off our JR Prom to go see Chicago Play Live in 1970.....Totally Worth it...
Good call John…. I’d have done the same thing…. Best, Joe
