Shawn & Mel, you'll love their "Aja", "Deacon Blues", "Josie" and many more!!! Donald Fagen(singer/songwriter, keys) and Walter Becker(guitar) were perfectionists. Their album 'Aja' won a Grammy for best engineered album. They just assembled the best studio musicians and produced the greatest, coolest, smoothest music! Deep rabbit hole here guys!
After Do it Again, Deacon Blues & Aja would be my next 2 favorite Steely Dan. Love Steve Gadd's drumming on Aja. Smooth as hell.
@@chrisjamieson3452 FM, My old school are musts.
Kid Charlemagne, Bodhisattva, Peg, Don't Take Me Alive are great too
Y'all can't forget Peg 😮
"Home at Last" with Bernard Purdie
'' FM ( no static at all ) and '' Ricky don't lose that number '' were both big hits ❤❤❤
Check out more from Steely Dan: “Reelin’ In the Years”, “Kid Charlemagne”, “Peg”, “Babylon Sisters”.
Songs like Hey Nineteen, Haitian Divorce, Deacon Blues, Bodhisativa or Don't Take Me Alive make this band a legend. Saludos
Don't forget Peg!
I love that line, "no black cards can make you money, so you hide them when you're able. In the land of milk and honey (Heaven on judgment day) you must put them on the table."(confess)
Damn, that what that means? I was just singing along without much thought… Thank You
What are the black cards referencing?

You can never go wrong with Steely Dan!! Everything they did was top notch. Great choice. Love you guys 🌺✌️
Steely Dan is just nothing but Smoooooooooooooooooooth
One of the best! They don't have a bad song!!! WAY ahead of the curve. Style called fusion, jazz & rock.... Love me some DAN!
One of my favorite songs and it came out the year I was born 1972!
Lot's of amazing Steely Dan tunes in the comments. I guarantee "Green Earings." This band is extraordinary in musical proficiency and song writing. The song lyrics often defy the melody of the song. Love, Love, Love Steely Dan. Happy journey!
There is no such thing as a bad Steely Dan song. They are next level, A+++ .... Love them!!💜💜
Tippy, tippy, top of the proverbial iceberg!! Steely Dan IS going to blow your minds!! Just follow the suggestions from your subscribers and you'll find that they literally made one masterpiece after another. Dive deep and enjoy! Peace☮️☮️
Love watching the 'Steely Dan lightbulb' go off lol!
Endless hits wit this band! Listen closely to the words. It's better when you got a buzzzzzz!
Steely Dan is a great American rock band founded in 1971. They had a lot of great hits such as "Reelin' In The Years", Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Hey Nineteen", "Peg", "Josie", "Deacon Blues", "Show Biz Kids", "My Old School" etc.
You cannot go wrong with Steely Dan!
Aja
Deacon Blues
Reelin' in the Years
Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Peg (Michael McDonald on background vocals)
Hey Nineteen
Black Cow
My Old School
Dirty Work
Donald Fagen's song "New Frontier" is great too.
Steely Dan is a cigar and a whiskey kind of band.. chill jazz, blues, rock combo... This is a big rabbit hole...i hope you explore it... it's a gem... truly. Great reaction.
Steeled Dan is an endless well. Dive deep, you won’t regret it. Love it.😍
Get deep into this rabbit hole you'll never want to come back...... Nothing better than.... the Dan
Steely Dan..the live version is 🔥.rest in peace Walter &thankyou for the music❤️😥
Love Steely Dan. I’m fortunate to have grown up in the best era of music.
You are not kidding.
Shawn and Mel's very first reaction to Steely Dan?! Better late than never
Only Steely Dan sounded like Steely Dan. Their songs were unique and told a story with the most soothing, almost hypnotic music ever.
Rabbit Hole!!!
Steely Dan is top notch!!!
Reelin in the years.
Peg.
Josie.
Aja.
Deacon Blues.
Hey Nineteen.
Riki, don't lose that number....
LOVE STEELY DAN!
Dr. Wu, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Peg, and FM are all great Steely Dan songs.
The groups name is Steely Dan. 2 guys, Donald Fagen (Vocals) Walter Becker (Bass and guitars) and they hired studio session Musicians to come in and make the music. This is why the Music is so smooth and perfect.. Simply the best Music ever.. This song was about addictions and habits, we go back and do it all over again..
Steely Dan "Dirty Work" & "Fire In The Hole"...Nuff Said.
Can't believe you guys have never heard this spectacular song from 1972! This song is now officially 50 years old now!
And thanks for playing the long version. The edited version cuts out the wonderful instrumental middle part!!
agree with you on the long version!
Woooo hooo Steely Dan!!!!
Black Cow, Hey 19, Josie!!!! More and more!!!
I'm an aging baby boomer who was fortunate to grow up with great music of the sixties and seventies. Steely Dan had hit after hit in the seventies and this one was one of the best. It stands in stark contrast to the god awful music of today.
70s JUST THE BEST MUSIC OF ALL TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song talks about human nature. You know what you've done is bad for you, but you go back, jack, and do it again.
"Do It Again", "Reelin' in the Years", "My Old School", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Kid Charlemagne", "Deacon Blues", "Peg", "FM (No Static at All)" ... These songs filled the radio airwaves throughout in the 70's. "Hey Nineteen" capped off the decade in 1980. Each tells a tale of its own. "Kid Charlemagne" spins a tale about the way Owsley Stanley finished The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. And wtih a super great guitar solo too!
Steely Dan! Your favorite bands favorite band! ✌🤘
they're in the hall for a reason. Do us a favor and progress their catalog chronologically. Their progression is amazing.
you guys are listening to some real good stuff today, one after another. just remember...imagine listening to this stuff back in the day while in an altered state of mind. next checkout "reelin' in the years".
Steely Dan is wild. Songs start out and you're like, 'This kinda sounds like elevator music.' Then about two minutes in, your neck hurts from snappin' back and forth.
True words spoken👈🏻☝🏻
Considered to be some of the best studio work EVER! The guys had some of the best studio musicians in the world playing on their albums, including, but not limited to, most of Toto. Most notably, Steve Lukather-guitarist supreme.
I cannot find Steve Lukather credited on any Steely Dan studio album.
Toto was tied with Boz Skaggs (Lowdown), not Steely Dan. Donald Fagan would hand pick individual artists to play a specific part of one song. He was not known for using a "group".
Most of Toto❓️
We're not in Kansas anymore...
Steely Dan is just 2 guys and a mess of talented studio musicians. Brilliant!
Their later albums sold more, but for me, they never bettered this, their debut. Well, clever, six-note jazz chords are no substitute for melody. 'Do it again' is a tale of our times: a guy goes out, commits a crime, gets caught, is mildly punished, goes out & does it again - slap-on-the-wrist treatment, you see. You can choose any track on this album & not go wrong. The theme throughout is of a world that constantly turns, but never changes.
It's a close second to Aja for me but that's just my personal taste. Even the worst Dan is better than most everything else.
@@robertpearson8798 I like this album because it perfectly straddles pop & jazz - the tunes are hummable, yet open to improvisation. Also, the consistency (both lyrically & musically) from track to track is amazing. To me, their music became less & less accessible & appealing as their career progressed, but, as you say, that's personal taste.
I agree.
@@appledoreman Yeah man, I discovered steely dan like a month ago and one thing that makes them so good is the balance between having a lot of jazz in terms of chord progressions, while also being easy to digest, and just a few bands can do that the way they do it
down the rabbit hole you go....this is merely a drop of water in an ocean of amazing music
This is one of my favorites songs of all time 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You two love your music. Thanks foa all the great sounds.
I need a 'MELLLLLLLLLL', alarm clock to wake me up, 'smiling', each day! Lucky Shawn, he gets the real deal. LOL
Nice work, Shawn and Mel, thanks for discovering Steely Dan and helping to keep their music alive. God bless.
Enjoy steely Dan every song is different but they still have the same funky soul bluesy jazz feel
Saw these guys while I was in High School 1975-76, San Diego...ROCKIN'
I just adore the way y’all love each other. It is so sweet. Makes my heart squeeze up. lol.
I'm an old rocker but I do not change the channel when these guys come on.
Classic Steely Dan from my childhood. Highest quality production, and the plot of bad habits, and vices, and the vicious cycle.
Steely Dan, great group a lot of good songs. Great reaction S&M, have a awesome day.
You haven't even heard the half of it. You can never go wrong with any Steely Dan track. This is a very deep rabbit hole that I highly recommend that you go down. Thank you! ;-)
Yay! Steely Dan is a huge rabbit hole! Peg (back-up vocals by Michael McDonald), Deacon Blues, FM, Reelin’ in the Years… Can’t go wrong.
I enjoy reactors who try to understand the lyrics!
Everything Steely Dan did was gold. You really should hear Hey Nineteen or Peg
Got a ton of air play back in the 70's. Grew up on this stuff!
Great to see it being liked by a new generation.
This is such a great groovy song and one I never get tired of hearing when it's played on the radio
And this is just their first album. You'll in a brightly lit gold mine.
Steely Dan has a lot of great music. I see a lot of cuts people are suggesting, they are good. One I like, not sure if anyone suggested, is Realing in the Years.
Listen to the entire "Can't Buy a Thrill" album. Nothing but great music!
Pretzel (Pretzle) Logic too. Night By Night my favourite.
This band is going to blow you away.
You will love most if not all of Steely Dan songs. It's like a mix of rock and jazz. Just so good. In fact, I love to listen to them when taking long hot relaxing bubble baths.
Your musical taste is beautiful.Love to you.
If you guys haven’t hit the Steely Dan rabbit hole yet, you’re gonna be listening for a long time, you can probably find 30 or more hits never mind the other ones that weren’t so much hits but it’s still amazing. Steely Dan is the most sampled band of all time. Get ready for a journey. I would start with Peg, kid Charlemagne, hey 19, Aja, parkers band, dirty work, Rikki don’t lose that number, deacon blues, caves of Altamira, Pretzel logic
Best song by Steely Dan.
Steely Dan and Al Stewart are my fav artists. Anything you do with them gets a thumbs up from me. Please react to Al Stewart Song on the Radio. I promise you'll love it
Steely Dan is good shit. It IS quality music. 💥💥💥👍😎
Love Seely Dan. You cannot go wrong. Jump on in.
Ben is a song about people choosing the wrong things and not learning from them so they go back and do it again and do it again and do it again. And it's just very catchy. Like the part where he knows this girl is bad news for him but he's going to go back around and around. Great song great.Shine on. ✌️♥️
awesome grew up listening to seventies rock think was thee best decade for rock music thanks for sharing
Glad you guys found Steely Dan! So much great music, recorded audiophile clear..."Don't Take Me Alive" "Peg" "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" "Black Cow" "Kid Charlemegne" "FM" "Reelin' In the Years" "Bodhisattva" "Hey Nineteen" "the Fez" "Deacon Blue" "Any Major Dude Will Tell You" "Dirty Work" "Black Friday" "Babylon Sisters" "My Old School" "Pretzel Logic" "Cousin Dupree" "Green Earrings" "Josie" "Night By Night" "Time Out Of Mind" "Here At the Western World" "The Royal Scam"
I think this song is about addiction - Violence - Kinky Women - Gambling
1973 ...... what a way to announce yourself to the world.
Great song.
You go "Back Jack Do it Again"Bad habits are hard to break.
Steely Dan has some good ones.
"FM(No static at all)," my favorite"Black Cow","Peg",with Michael Mc Donald on backup vocals.
Just saw Steely Dan (With don fagan only) 2 weeks ago in Concord, CA. Fantastic show! Steely Dan is my high school soundtrack for those years. Dive in Shawn and Mel. They have a deep vault of music to enjoy. Haitian Divorce and Pretzel Logic are my two favorites!!!
Now that's a jam!
This band have been massively sampled on the rap/hip hop scene over the years
Shawn seems like a dude that would be a good friend
I remember the first time I heard this song driving home from school in 1972 (I think) and being blown away just like you guys. I have been a Steely Dan fan ever since. Glad y'all have found this rabbit hole - you'll never be disappointed. Love your channel, keep up the great content.
Love this song. The first time I saw them I was in high school and this song was popular. The next time saw them it was last month 50 years and 3 moths later.
I’m 53 and remember this back in the 70’s
Good place to start down their rabbit hole, with their first hit. Thanks!
We are creatures of habit and addictions! We just keep going back over and over again even if it causes pain.
In the 70s there were band's that had a strong college backing of fans....
That would discuss albums as if they were politics,
Gentle Giant/Pink Floyd/Kansas/early Genesis/Return to Forever/Weather Report/Funkadelic /Osabisa/MALO/Jethro Tull...
... courtship was via giving book's on philosophy,
And albums so they would know we're you were coming from.
No drugs involved...
So happy you guys reacted to this. Steely Dan is a band like no other! Do yourselves a favor and check out "Black Cow" and "FM (No Static At All). And, for something poignant, check out Stevie Wonder and Sting (live) performing a beautiful song called "Fragile" Two musical geniuses sharing one stage!
That electric Sitar solo is a classic in any music genre.
Got this song is genius musicianship!
You just can't go wrong with Steely Dan.
You two are adorable, I never tire of watching your reactions x
😊 thank you
Steely Dan is a definite vibe this song is 🔥 your reaction was 🔥
A little bluesey a little jazzy, love these guys
Love these guys! My Old School is my fave. All good! More! More!
I can see you guys having lots of fun reacting to songs like “Black Friday” or “Dirty Work.” They have so many great songs. Long rabbit hole!
They were huge when I was young and discovering music for myself. Huge band, always talented musicians. Fagan is a genius.
I bought this album when I was13 Changed My life
An Old School cat put me on to this song back in 2008. Been my jam since.
Can't beat steely Dan. Hey nineteen is another great song
Deep hole with Steely Dan-no pun intended for those who know(LOL)-Peg, My Old School, Kid Charlemane and many more.
