      I am intending to make another coopers beer video in the next month or so. However, I will have a chat with Coopers to confirm what is their recommendation on high alcohol content in warmer climates. In Western Sydney we also hit high temperatures most years but the beer should be stored in cool place if possible.

    I do the brewers best kits. To me there are step up to help you make beer from scratch but with malt extract instead of all grain. Also for those who want to know the abv of this beer is 4.59 or 4.6 abv. Take the first gravity ready and subtract your second reading after fermentation. This is your O.G original and F.G final gravity reading. Then multiply the number you get by 131.25 and you get your ABV. Example (1.035 - 1.000) x 131.25 (.035) x131.25 = 4.59375 or 4.6% abv

      Thanks Daniel, I don't know much about Brewers Best Kits but I am interested I knowing more for the future. Thanks for the detailed calculations on how to find out your alcohol content. Initially I chose not to go into too much detail on the calculations but I have just released another video over a week ago with Coopers Pale Ale but with a twist, making it a 7.2% alcohol content using dry enzyme and pure non toxic sugar.

    I really like that the first thing mentioned is sanitizing, this can't be mentioned enough. Sanitize your gear ! Also the temperature advice is spot on. If you at all can, don't brew too hot, I try not to go over 25C, high temps will brew faster but you'll end up with kindof fruity flavours which aren't that great, especially in light coloured beers. My favorite range is about 21-24C for ale yeasts (what most kits use). If you use Metabisulfate for sanitizing, throw that stuff out and instead get a no rinse sanitizer like Starsan from your local brew shop, that won't affect the flavour of the beer and is much easier and faster to use. Also it's not very dear. If you want to save yourself a lot of work and pour your beer into a glass anyway, don't use those 750ml bottles, but just use 2L pepsi bottles, they fit just right with the bottlers and you'll be washing/sanitizing 12 bottles instead of 30. The wait time with Coopers kits is well known, having to store your beer in bottles for a long time. If you don't want to wait that long, I can recommend Morgans kits, which are made in QLD. You can buy those in most home brew shops. Tastes better imo and you wait a lot less, and they cost about the same as the red label Coopers kits. For example I can drink the Morgans Ironbark dark ale three weeks after starting the fermentation, longer in winter. (I use 2 fermenters, one for brewing 1 week, second for clearing 1 week, 1 week in the bottles).

      Hey thanks James, that's very generous of you to give me your insight, I appreciate it! You are right about the sanitising and it is long and tedious, I just like to be thorough. However, I have gone to a newer version which is quicker. I hope to release a video on it in the near future. Eventhough Coopers own shares in Morgan's I have not yet tried their kits. However, people do say that they are better tasting as you alluded to. Thanks James

    I use a short stool when filling up the bottles. It saves my back a little. I'm not sure if you need to sterilse the hydrometer, as that tiny bit of beer in the test tube will get tossed down the sink? I wouldn't normally put the hydrometer into the fermenter. When I put the syrup into the fermenter, I leave a little of the boiling water leftover, to rinse the can out. I have tried using white sugar and it's terrible. Stick to the brew enhancers and dextrose. After putting the air lock into the grommet, I squeeze the fermenter, to check the lock is sealing i.e. the water level will rise and lower. Have you tried a belt heater in winter?. Great video.

    I brew wine from grapes (pino noir/ syrah/ grenache) and controlling the sedement is always an issue. I've just started a Coppers Amber Ale. Is sedement an issue for you? Great video. Thanks

    • @quantumhomeimprovements
      @quantumhomeimprovements  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, always! In fact I rang and spoke to Coopers technical team back a few years ago and a gentleman revealed to me that they leave their brew to sit longer than what they recommend on their home-brew instructions. So I personally went up to 12 days at one stage but the beer had an acid type taste/feel to it. Now I bottle the beer at 8 or so days which is a good compromise. There is less sediment and the beer still taste great! Furthermore, if you buy a Coopers beer already bottle you will find it also has sediment. I think that is why Coopers have a best after date, not before, possible less additives.
      P.S. I haven't tried coopers amber yet, let me know how you go! It would be good to know how it tastes? Thanks Steph

    • @gobthefrog

      @@quantumhomeimprovements thanks for sharp reply. With wine I brew and rack twice. This mostly reduces the sediment but lose on volume which I take on the chin (reluctantly). You have got me curious again! Lol 😆

      @quantumhomeimprovements  7 місяців тому +2

    • @CloudNey

      @@quantumhomeimprovements thank you for replying, I really appreciate it 🙏 it's in 26°C and stable as my home central air-conditioning sits around 24-25°C. I'm brewing a lager and using brew enhancer #2 plus tap water. I've used star san to sanitize everything (diluted according to the label).
      One thing that happened on the 2nd day is that the airlock liquid (also star san solution) came back into the fermenter after I repositioned the whole thing, but it was just a couple of drops... Like a tbsp max. I'm worried that this could have killed the yeast and stopped the fermentation.
      The batch has a nice beer smell, has good froth and colour, does not taste off (but it tastes like a flat, watery, almost non-alcoholic beer). I'm on the fourth day since the fermentation started.

    • @quantumhomeimprovements
      @quantumhomeimprovements  7 місяців тому +2

      It's not a problem with a very small amount of Star San in the fermenter. 26 degrees is on the top end. I would definitely bottle it on the 6th day after taking a hydrometer reading tomorrow and then the following, but just to make sure, the reading has stabilised. Don't worry too much about the brew being flat at this point! It will carbonate in the bottle during the second stage of the fermenting process! However, try to find the coolest spot in the house to keep the bottles around 18 degrees if possible. I have mine under the staircase, which is currently 21 degrees, which is not bad considering this time of year.

However, I did at one stage ferment for 12 days before bottling which made a nice clear beer but unfortunately a little acetic! Which wasn't good. I have to add that making videos which represent company's like Cooper's I have a huge responsibility to not mislead people which is far more important to me that trying to come across as the Brewing king! Lol
      Regardless, I would love to know more of what you do and some of your successes and also some of your failures. I would like to think that we can all learn from each other.
      Thanks Daniel, I appreciate you message.

    sterilise stuff and pick it up in your fingers - drop the hydrometer into the jar so it crashes the bottom - etc - not impressed....

      Hey olderandwiser, you are spot on and I appreciate you taking the time to write this comment. Coopers pulled me up on the hydrometer as well eventhough I mentioned in the video that everything needs to be sanitised.
      This was one of my earlier videos and I have since learnt that there is a huge responsibility on what I show and say! I and also leaning and in time I will be older and wiser! Good man, thanks for the heads up!

    You tell everyone to sanitise everything then put an unsanitary lid on. Put your hand all over the hydrometer then put it in the brew.
    There would be more bacteria in that brew than in the toilet 🤦‍♂️

      You sound like you know what you are talking about Steve, very good observation! This was my first brewing video and my video skills were not good, however off camera I did clean everything including my hands.
      Here is a newer version video, which was a better version if you could please watch it and let me know what you think!

    The title says quick and easy but you take a day to sanitise. Get yourself some no rinse sanitiser like Starsan or Stellarsan, champ, and have your sanitising done in minutes.
    Quick and easy? Why soak the tin in hot water? Just empty it into your barrel and swish the tin with hot water.
    There's nothing wrong with the ferment dropping to 21C or even as low as 18C.
    You have a tube to drop your hydrometer in. Why risk the possibility of introducing bacteria to your brew by dropping the hydrometer in the brew?
    "Throf." What is throf?
    I'm starting to think you should stick to home improvements.

      You are 100% correct Glenn which is standard practice, however as I mention in the video the hydrometer was sanitised and was not going to contaminated the brew! And it taste great I am happy to say.
      You may be interested to watch the following Coopers Pale Ale video where I did use the proper canister to take the hydrometer reading which I made for the very reason you explained. For people who don't sanitise! Your idea of brewing under 21% is a grave mistake because Coopers yeast can NOT be brew under that tempreture and they will not garentee it if it fails!!! Which I also mention in the Pale Ale video.
      However, out of all your point the suggestion to use a quicker sanitiser was the most practical of all as I have finally decided a couple of weeks ago to give it a shot, could I ask which of the two you use and why?
      Thanks for taking the time to write me this message, if you could please keep it positive! Thanks Glen

      Actually below 21C is far from a grave mistake. I always brew ales in the 18-20C range and it's common practice among experienced brewers. The reason Coopers suggest low to high 20s is they know the average punter doesn't have temp control. Lager yeast ferments at even lower temperatures.
      Yeast is a living organism and will stress at high temps and give off esters that can affect the flavour of beer. Some call this "home brew twang". Lower ferment temps will give a cleaner tasting beer.
      I use Stellarsan because I got some cheap but I'm pretty sure it's almost identical to Starsan ie. a phosphoric acid based, food grade sanitiser.
      Happy brewing.

      @@glennmozuras7600 Spot on Glenn, the average person brewing will stuff it up and have exploding brew because they get the tempreture wrong which is why it's a grave mistake to tell people differently to what Coopers recommend. Pale Ales and Lager should be brewed at lower temperatures as you suggested but the yeast Coopers provide will not work which I know as a fact. However, saying that my next realese Coopers brew I use Saflarger 34/70 yeast made by Fermentis for a Lager brew which you would already know. This yeast is highly recommended by good brewers.
      Mate, I really appreciate your honesty which is very refreshing. I haven't purchased my new sanitiser because I always procrastinate when making big decisions. You are the second person suggesting to change over so I will give it ago.
      Thanks Glenn

    but i wanna ask could i brew this and make this at home but with the new coopers beer brewer without the Siphon horse thing that goes on top or no @quantumHomeimprovementsasolutions

      Thanks for your interest! Here is our latest video using Coopers' newer fermenter, which I use as a faster sterilizing method now, and is pretty easy as well. I have placed the link below for you if you are interested in watching the process.
