    Wish I had this info years ago... To put pressure on the ends after gluing to the strings, try those paper clips with the silver clamp handles. They do a great job getting a tight fit for the glue to dry.

    Thank you. I really like this technique. Is it possible to use a sliding knot on the suede to close the bracelet? Also, the rod in the loom should be removed after the thread is put on. It will make the thread much more taut. Thank you! I love your tutorials.

    I made one of these using surgical tape on the ends and using soft leather ends. I glued the leather like here but i stitched the edges of my leather. I even stitched some of the loom work on to the leather. I still like the idea of the woven and glued threads.

  • @JelMain

    If you used cotton or linen thread, fabric glue would do the job, as it's fairly penetrative of all organics.. Bulldog clips hold that kind of width tight. Likewise, you can even bead-stitch the surfaces!

    This is my third loom. My first was when I was a child. 8-10yo. I got frustrated an my mom didn't know how to continue. Mind you, this was the end of the 80z. Possibly early 90z. So, no access to internet. Lol My second was stolen by my ex. It was a kit for kids. I'm sure he gave it to his sister or one of his ex's. I guess its true, third times a charm. Thank you for this video. I'm excited to finish an make more. Maybe sell them at PoW Wow. I have a lot of time an supplies to make up for lol😏🙏

    Threaded rod or fine thread bolt...probably about 4" long epoxied to a wood frame with a screw on each end will make a loom.

    question, shown how to wave the thread at the end of you project.
    but I'm having a hard time in the begining of my project, try to wave the thread but it come all wrong.
    now my question is, do I start beading first and then do the waving with the thread and then go back beading again?

My work is nice and right through the whole project and then you take them off the loom and the ends are floppy. This looks very neat and strong. Thank you. I am now a subscriber. • @a.carman8266

    I liked the tutorial very much. Was reading the comments and was wondering do you find using Nymo D thread gives you the best looming thread consistency? I've used others but have only free hand woven with Nymo thread and not one so heavy.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  5 років тому

      We do like using the Nymo size D. If you prefer something lighter you can use a size B. Nymo size D offers us many colors so we can match the beads better than a simple crystal or smoke in perhaps a fireline, which we use for most of our off loom weaving.

    I really like the way that looks. It's also great for someone who can't wear metal due to allergies.
    Also, can the beaded part be attached directly to the leather strip? Basically using leather to back the entire piece of beadwork?

      You could attach the leather portion to the beads. We have a video showing you how to attach bead work to backing: www.beadaholique.com/how-to-finish-and-back-bead-loom-weaving.html

      Hi Jeannie, our favorite method for finishing loom pieces is to use slide connectors. If you're subscribed to our channel you've probably seen these a lot recently, if not you can see our video about using them as a finishing technique here: www.beadaholique.com/how-to-finish-off-traditional-loom-work-and-add-a-slider-clasp.html
      We're doing a lot of loom work these days and if we discover any other finishing techniques for loom pieces you can be sure we'll do a video on it.

    Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm new to beadi ng and I want to make a Native American Headland. Do you have a tutorial on how to start with the loom? I need to know the basics for starting a project. I've never used a loom before. How do I start? Thank you

      Hi Bette, we have a lot of videos that can help you learn the basics.
      Take a look at this project page of ours on how to make a long beaded lanyard, the technique is very similar to a hatband and the instructions include links to videos that will teach you the basics: beadaholique.com/products/funky-loom-lanyard

    What length size is best for beadwork?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому

      Beadwork is a really flexible form of crafting, I don't know that one length is any better than another. The loom you use will determine how easy it is to make longer projects however. The Jewel Loom we feature in this video has a working area of around 10 inches, which is large enough to bead many common bracelet sizes. However to make longer projects such as hatbands, belts and guitar straps we recommend a different style of loom that's sized a little longer and which ends its pieces with single threads. Those longer, clean finishing strips of beadwork are easier to join together seamlessly, here's a look at how to make them using the Ricks Loom: ua-cam.com/video/0IwYbv7bjz4/v-deo.html

      The squares I believe we cut from the strips. I'm not sure what craft and fabric stores in the UK might call these but we see a lot of names and phrases for imitation leather on the market; faux, mock, synthetic, cruelty free. We still sell the strips in our store in a couple of colors:

      Yes, you can loom with pearls. You will just want to make sure that their holes are large enough for your needle and thread to pass through them twice.

    HI JULIE... IS THERE ANY WAY TO SHORTEN A PIECE OF LOOMED BEADWORK WITHOUT RUINING IT? IT'S TOO LONG FOR WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH IT... MAKING A HAT BAND FROM AN OLD BELT. THE BEADWORK PATCH MEASURES 26, AND THE HAT BAND IS 23." I HAVE TO CUT IT DOWN.
    THANKS

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому

      Hi Brett,
      This is a good question, we haven't done anything like this ourselves but I'm gonna try to answer it as best I can. It should be possible to cut a finished loom piece and still salvage some of it. The tricky part here is how much you'll be able to salvage. I can't really recommend attempting to make a 26 inch piece into a 23 inch piece, because I could easily see you loosing a few inches on either side and not having quite enough to work with. If you're determined to give it a shot I'd suggest finding or making a smaller piece, say 7 or 8 inches long, that you wouldn't mind messing up, and practice cutting and re-finishing that.
      The whole thing won't fall apart like a house of cards if you cut it, but it will start to want to unravel immediately, and the threads may be under a bit of tension so that unraveling could happen quickly. You also might see a bit of wrinkling in the piece once you cut into it and free that tension. You'd want to have the piece lying flat as you cut it, and to secure it somehow with a bit of weight so that the weft thread that's cut can't wiggle loose and start unraveling from the warp threads that form the length of the piece.
      You'll also have to consider carefully how you want to finish the piece. This video has a technique that I think would be a nice finish for a hat band, but you might have to remove a few extra rows of beads in order to make it work, or live with gluing the leather over the beadwork and having it be a little bulkier.

    Hi. I am working on my first loom project. I’m using faux leather cording and just doing a single row of beads. How can I complete this bracelet? Would you tie the ends in a knot ? Or add a clap of some kind.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Denise, if I'm picturing your project right that sounds pretty similar to what we'd call a wrap bracelet. We like finishing those by threading a button onto one end of the leather cord and then tying a few knots into the cord at the other end in order to make a loop to hold the button. If you've already got your looming done this technique might not work for your unfinished piece, but take a look at how we do it in this video, you may be able to adapt the technique: ua-cam.com/video/o9NpitdwpC8/v-deo.html
