A nice video. Unfortunately, many of the things it says are wrong. The circle can be 50cm in diameter at most (not 70cm). When throwing, both feet must be entirely inside the circle, not on or over the circle. (Jake is committing a foot fault as he throws the jack.) The jack must be thrown to a distance of 6-10m. (Jack clearly threw the jack too short.) When a team "has the point" (i.e. has the closest boule to the jack) the OTHER team plays. (Teams do not throw in pairs of throws, and the team with the closest boule certainly does not "go first" in the next pair. If Jake threw a good first boule, it is possible that Anna might then throw all of her boules trying to beat Jake's first boule.) You show three "invalid" ways of throwing, but you don't explain that what makes them invalid is that in all of them the thrower is stepping out of the circle. Both of the thrower's feet must remain on the ground, inside of the circle, until a thrown boule hits the ground. Doing any of the invalid throws would be legal as long as the player kept both feet on the ground while he (or she) did it. It is, for instance, legal to throw under-handed using a "softball" or "bowling" kind of throw as long as you keep both feet on the ground while you do it. Finally, in showing the correct way to throw, you show players with feet so far apart that it is impossible for both feet to be inside the circle. Typically a player stands with his feet very nearly together and almost side-by-side. To learn more about petanque, I suggest visiting this web site - -petanqueportal.wordpress.com

Thank you for this wonderful comment! Clearly we've been playing with some faulty rules here (like when to throw) but this was more ment as a comedic instructional video, not to be taken to seriously. I'll pin your comment at the top so that everyone who watches the video can learn the real rules!
You have the rules wrong. The next player to throw is teh one who not closest to the Jack. So in the second throw, it should have been the lady to thow again. The same player keeps throwing until they are closest or run out of balls.
This is the first video i am watching about how to play petanque. I wanna learn its rules, i wanna know how did you to play this ball. Unfortunately, there are some mistake. But still appreciated Nemo to make this video and thanks Steve Ferg Bitbukcet's comment. Let me now how to play the petanque correctly. Thanks anyway.
In Pétanque, the person who's boule is closest to the jack is said to be "holding" and the person not holding must throw their boules, untill the "point" (which means they have the closest boule to the jack) when they have thrown a point, the first player may throw their boules to out-point the second player. When all boules are placed, the boules are scored.
It is important that you stay polite by playng petanque. But just like Elyes Loucif says. The team that has bals and not has a winning bal needs to throw not the team with the winning ball.

al blacklugger The making of the video was very spontaneous and quick and we played petanque our own way! We now know the real rules but let the video stay up because we like it! /The man in the cap
You were right with the "kind of" in the title because Pieds tanqués means Feet together--your feet must be together. You can bend your knees when throwing, but your feet must remain side by side.

shake hands?? no more, as i am watching how to play Petanque foe the first time :D
WHY COULDNT YOU HAVE DIFFERENT COLOR BOULS WITH THE SAME METAL FINISH SO YOU CAN IDENTIFY YOUR BOULS FROM THE OPPONENT?
Correct is 50cm NOT 70cm circle
This is incorrect
Excellent explanation for a beginner and entertaining. I know there are finer points to this game, but this gets you started quickly.
Thank you!
