Being proactive and catching a Liver Shunt early can make a huge difference in a puppy's life. The Liver Shunt blood test cost $109 at my vet. That is well worth it for peace of mind on a puppy that is significantly smaller than his litter mates or has stunted growth. Fortunately, Beau is in great health and now we know that he is just genetically smaller than his siblings but he doesn't have an issue! Thank you for being on this journey with us.
Thank you for watching and your kind words! ❤️ I feel great when I am being proactive and this is great that I can confirm Beau is healthy and I now know how to test to confirm a puppy doesn't have a liver problem. 😍
❤ Bow is a champ, will love to have him. Is an absolute pleasure. And will be a great companion. Thanks for taking care and sharing. Salutations from Connecticut 👋👨🏻🦳
Outstanding news! Beau is so adorable. He would be the perfect companion and playmate. Looking forward to seeing what surprises Dazzle will have for all of us.
Yes, Arlene, he is a special little guy! Thank you for following this journey with us and we look forward to hearing about you and Ginger when you want to update ❤️
Yes! Yes! Your 3 little partis are sooo adorable! I'm grateful for you sharing photos of them. It is fun for us to see how they all grow up. THANK YOU!! ❤️
Yes! Me too! I am glad I did the test because it takes that little nagging voice in my head about the comment / story someone shared and squashes it 😂 Beau is healthy, fun, playful, and full of love!!
Thank you Susan! I too have had dogs all my life and never had to deal with the painful situation of a liver shunt in a dog. Having someone suggest that Beau might have a liver shunt sent me on this journey to understand and test him. Now we know more about this and I will do everything I can to ensure my lines of breeding dogs don't have any genetic patterns of liver shunts!! Than you for being on the adventure with us.
Hallo Shawn & all your "PUPPYS" !!! I love your "ALL" and send GREETINGS again from Salzburg. I am happy with your Vid🥰😍🤩❤eos and wished you will be near to me. The best to All of you. R.M.K.
So glad you decided to go ahead and have him checked. I had never heard of liver shunt until a liver colored toy Schnauzer I got from a Florida breeder back in 2003 became very ill. Wound up dying from the condition. Wasn't even 6 months old. Nothing to ignore or play around with.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's so important to be aware of these potential issues, and to catch it very quickly. Thank you also for joining the adventure with us!
Glad you checked Beau/Bo for liver-shunt 👍especially since it sounds like you are putting him in your breeding program. A serious issue that sadly can crop up in some tiny toy breeds. Thanks for covering this issue with all of us, and helping us learn how to up chances of adopting a healthy pup, when bringing a new fur-love into our homes. 👍👍👍 Hi Coco and Chief😃😃😃. That was a fun surprise. Thank you Shawn!❤️🐾
Hi Carole! Yes! Thank you. I'm glad I learned about this and now know how to make sure I evaluate this in choosing dogs for my breeding program too! Yes, what serendipity finding Coco and Chief in the waiting room after our meeting with Dr Geller about Dazzle's puppy count x-ray!! Hope you are doing well ❤️
Great news! Thanks Shawn for all of you do for the puppies and the UA-cam viewers keeping us informed. It was funny to hear Beau was talking to the big dogs at the vet. Coal did the same last week. They are brothers! Good luck to Dazzle! We will have to catch up for Coal and Beau to visit. Coal is seeing Anne next Tuesday! Talk to you soon!
Thank you for sharing your update and I look forward to our future adventures together too! Yes a play date will be fun. Maybe Nero and Beau could visit you in the park this weekend ❤️
Great news! Thank you for sharing with us! Happy that Beau is healthy, and he will be able to help in producing small cute babies in the future. Can’t wait to see them (I know it will be awhile, but still…will be exciting to see and follow their journey).
Please Read I purchased a liver shunt puppy and it is awful. if a breeder throws a Liver Shunt Pup puppy. The mother has to be spayed. I ended up paying $25,000 for my Gracie. I was guaranteed two years and she passed away a month before she was 10 years old. She was my love. Puppies livers clothes a week before they are born. My puppies shunt was not closed so they had to go in there and close it. I knew because protein is the worst thing you can give to a puppy that has a liver shunt. it is not processing. It’s gonna come right back out. They will not poop. I knew because she was trying to bite me with her gums. That’s how much pain she was going through. She began to press her head against the wall. This meant there was ammonia in her little brain. I rushed her to the ER and immediately they gave her an enema. I had to start with Denemarin and lactulose until she could have surgery. They have to be monitored and medication every day. Gracie had to be on science site for her entire life and bottle water. I was running to the ER all the time. They tend to have a lot of other illnesses like pancreatitis, Cushing, and renal failure. That’s what I lost her and it was a month before her 10th birthday. if you are not willing to do this, then I would ask you to give her to someone that will have a lot of love in your heart and a lot of patience.
Thank you for sharing your story and experience. Fortunately I've never had a puppy or a dog with a liver shunt and I am grateful that my none of my puppies have ever had this problem. I wanted to test Beau because someone who watches my channel suggested that I should do the test on him because he was so much smaller than his siblings. My dog had a liver shunt . He has seizures. I went to the vet and the blood test shows that he had a liver shunt. He had surgery. His liver is fine unfortunately he still has seizures ( that is under control)
Hello Monica, My heart goes out to you and your dog. Was your dog a puppy or full grown at the time you discovered the liver shunt? What did your breeder say when you shared the news - did your breeder have a genetic guarantee? Ensuring the mom and dad aren't bred again to avoid the genetic pattern is so important! Thank you for sharing your experience with us and if you have any other suggestions please share.
@@svccschnauzers Hi! My dog Pookie probably was a result of a backyard breeder. That ended up at the public shelter because of his seizures. I was please to read that your pup doesn’t have liver shunt and want to give you 5 stars as a breeder! I truly appreciate you! As for seizures Pookie has a very good results with pentobarbital and Ellevet ( CBD oil prescribed by my vet)
