I've just watched this entire series and loved it. I'm mid 50's, been riding all my life but really suffer with anxiety about finding somewhere to stay, so book everything in advance, but that can really hamper any sort of spontaneity. I've also just started my own little UA-cam channel, and the points you make about just being yourself and not worrying what others think is really good advice. I'm a subscriber!
This is why I love UA-cam! I can watch some random fella who I would never meet in real life take his first continental biking trip and its strangely interesting and entertaining! Great series. Blasted through all episodes and enjoyed it! Thanks for producing the content!
Your video format is just right. You seem to be yourself and natural. Good conversation (monologue) to share thoughts is as important as filming the scenery. Thanks. P.S. For the next trips you may enjoy Picos de Europa in the northern Spain (Ferry to Santander). Or a Pyrenees trip from San Sebastian (good food Mecca) to Barcelona over cols d'Aubisque, Turmalet and Aspin. Stop at Bagneres-du-Luchon, then exploring the Spanish Pyrenees along N-260... Interesting travel possibilities are endless. Oh, and thanks for not asking for likes :). Cheers.
In your last report you asked for views on how you could improve. I say, carry on as you are. Your honest comments, including the uncertainties of bike drops etc, which I fear myself, are perfect. Keep doing them as this series has been. Very refreshing and great watching. Keep going. Thanks for the shows.👍
Only came across your site a couple of hours ago and watched this series. Hard to believe it’s your first vlogs as they’re so well done and you just get on with enjoying your trip. Have subscribed and looking forward to your next trip. Take care
Have only just stumbled onto your channel and this tour and have to say it was fantastic. I really liked the short and sweet episodes and your editing is excellent considering it’s your first tour! Far better than anything I can do; I’ve got about four hours worth of footage from a recent and very pretty ride out and don’t even know where to start with it! 😂
Thank you for your very kind words. Although I enjoy editing I really do appreciate it can be difficult knowing where to start with it all. You could always outsource the editing to someone on Fiverr. That may sound a bit extreme but they can be quite reasonable on price and the finished result is often awesome because it’s all they do all day 😃
If your going away for just a week Belgium has some great roads and Holland can be great as well. If you had 2 weeks the Alps are a must to see, nearly any route through them is amazing.
Loved your first big trip, and great tips. More and more and definitely more of France please. My best tip: stay in AirBnb's with French people. I've met the nicest people that way, in a little rented Citroen road trip, but can't wait to go on my bike next!
I used to love making as much km a day as posible. Maybe sounds wierd, but that used to calm me down. Getting so tired there was no room left for any depressing thoughts. Getting of the motorcycle all worn out. Putting up the tent ,a bite to eat, trying to sleep. And do the same thing the next day. Untill i got so worn out i headed home again. Cant do that anymore these days. Age and nosediving health put a stop to that. The max i can do these days , on a good day is around 400 km. And have to be carefull not to let myself get carried away in negative thouhts because i cant do what i used to anymore. I dont ride as much anymore as i used to. But i geuss sometimes live has other plans and you need to adapt to that how ever much you hate doing that.
Great series of videos, I love France and live motorcycle touring, so watching your trip was ace. Hope to see more of your adventures soon. Cheers. Matt.
Only just found your channel and very enjoyable it was too. Watched the entire trip now and can’t believe this was your first one. Big thumbs up from me and yes…it’s never about the miles, but the journey, and what you can take in on the back roads, the little place you might stop for coffee or to look at the view. Shame you can’t get your wife to join you as we travel two up and both thoroughly enjoy it…even after 30+ years of marriage 😮😂
Thank you so much for your wonderful message 😃 Yes, sadly at the moment my wife won’t get on the bike… however we were in Barcelona recently and I sneakily hired a scooter and she really enjoyed being on the back of that (if a touch nervous). So I’m getting there slowly 😃 Once again thank you for your kind words and I hope you both have a great summer on two wheels 😃
Just found your channel and watch you little tour . I to started biking later in life when i turned 40 . I'm now 50 and me and the Mrs have traveled to a few country's on bikes i have a 2021 GSA at the moment and started vlogging my tours and rides last year. I'm lucky that my Mrs loves going pillion and can share the tours with me. We discovered very quickly that we needed to spend ££££ to get the best gear. Thanks for sharing your videos and maby you will take a look at some of mine stay safe and enjoy.
Thanks Andy, it looks like you have tons of experience whereas I’m relatively new to all this. I will indeed take a look at some of your videos - thank you 😃
Hi just a thought on your sat nav issue, in France if you're using the postcode equivalent to fing locations, the french area codes cover a much bigger area than the UK postcodes. In rural France a postcode can cover quite a few villages....
Thanks Tony, a great little series and I enjoyed it very much. I normally go on guided trips these days as my mrs hung up her helmet years ago. Quite fancy a little jolly about France on my own though, as the freedom to please your self really appeals so this may have inspired me to finally have a go. Look forward to your next one,👍
Suggestions for your next trip...... that's easy...... Scotland. NC 500 is popular but just a tour up the west of Scotland i am confident you will enjoy. Excellent roads and beautiful scenery. Cairngorms/Glenshee or the Lecht to Tomintoul....Moray.....loads to choose from. Thanks for the Great videos, i have really enjoyed watching your adventure. Opened my eyes regarding the shopping centres being just like ours what with a lot of empty units etc. I never really thought that it would affect other countries too. That's retail parks and online shopping for you :(
Thank you so much for your kind words and suggestions. I'm currently in Birmingham... and would like to do a day's ride tomorrow... and so if you were me, starting from Birmingham (and not including the Cotswolds) where would you go?
Thanks for sharing the experience of your first venture abroad by bike. Many of your ‘thoughts’ resonated with me from my first trip many many years ago. Although in France you can normally find a hotel - it did take until 10.15pm on one trip!! Thankfully my wife does join me on most trips but doesn’t like the big mileage days which can be limiting on distance/time sometimes - the way we manage this is for me to ride the full distance to final destination in two to three days, then she flies via a cheap airline to a local airport, I pick her up and we take a week or so riding home visiting places of interest on the way back. I think you would like Germany (we’ve done the Nursery Rhyme Route’ and ‘Romantic Route’ for fun which takes you through lots of interesting small towns. Also consider Switzerland, my wife’s favourite!
Great job! You're a natural. What do you mean being more you. I thought it was just right and authentic. Hello all the way from the west coast of Canada. I want to do France by motorcycle. I have done most of it by bicycle & car. Can't wait. My next bike might be a Triumph Scrambler XC for that very purpose.
You are doing great very interesting and relatable. Keep up the great work. We’ve been to the south of France and you gave me the hitch to see the northern parts. Som much to see !
Excellent first series and I can see a Star is Born 😂. Your relaxed, informative manner and your genuine interest in what you are seeing and doing shine thru and make for very entertaining viewing. I’ve watched a lot of bike related videos on UA-cam and yours is a breath of fresh air. Please keep them coming. I’m a biker of old and now that I’m retired I have completed several European tours , that have confirmed the old adage that ‘travel broadens the mind’. I’d strongly recommend Spain: great roads, wonderful scenery and lots to see (plus lovely people and delicious food). Also check out Scott ergonomic rain jackets and trousers: compact, light, inexpensive and essential for European riding. Safe travels.
Thank you so much for your VERY kind words and recommendations, they are greatly appreciated. I’m pretty sure my next major trip will be to Spain because everyone says such positive things about it 😃
Hi…just watched your series of videos in one go. Really enjoyed them and looking forward to more. Am off on a tour of France in 3 weeks time and watching your videos has go me so excited for my own trip.
I have just found you also, I have watched this vlog, now I am off to watch the whole trip. Looking forward to it. My suggestion for a trip would the Gorafe mountains and Desert in Spain, I am hoping to go there in November.
Just come across your site. What a superb production considering you are just starting out. Keep up with the channel and I so look forward to many more adventures.
Spain recommended - and don't get trapped into just Picos region (great as it is). Riding through France can add a couple of days/hotels each way (and the routes are a bit boring) so compare the admittedly expensive direct overnight ferry for cost vs time etc. Central berth, no windows is best - slept 14hr after taking seasickness tablet, perfect. And unlikely to need bulky wet weather gear. I live in Valencia/Alicante region and the roads inland are awesome. Remember south is too hot in summer so keep outside peak summer time. I'm also recently restarted on 2 wheels so taking it easy through the twisties on a big old beema. Did Moraira- Jaen-Seville-Cadiz-Jerez and others on way back last year. Even in May was a bit too hot.
Thanks so much - I really appreciate your comment. Spain is certainly high up on my wish list! I have just mapped out your Moraira-Jaen-Seville-Cadiz-Jerez and it looks amazing :-)
I've been touring Europe for many years, particularly France. There's so much to see. I introduced touring to some friends and we've been on a few tours. I would recommend Pont Du Gard, Oradour-sur-Glane, Gorges du Verdon and Castallane to Port Grimaud. I really enjoyed your road trip which has only confirmed that I need to do another trip myself. My partner won't go on the back of my bike either which is a shame. Looking forward to watch more of your videos.
And now you should get over to Spain for great roads, road surfaces, no traffic and fantastic scenery. As a bonus, everything is cheaper than France but the ferry is expensive.
I enjoyed this series (watched the last three from Angers onwards), well presented in a relaxed style. Do be careful with Stop signs in France - if the police see you not stop they will fine you, your wheels have to be stopped clearly. I think you went straight over one in Angers! As far as suggestions are concerned, I would suggest Corsica, although quite a schlepp through France and of course another slippery deck ferry!! But it is beautiful with lots of windy roads (I mean not straight, rather than fast moving air). Thanks for taking the trouble to do these videos, much appreciated.
Excellent piece of work LR, so real!….i remember my first trip to France when everything was kinda new and completely alien, was lovely. Now i do a few trips a year and go much much further, love it. Was a great little series which I thoroughly enjoyed, only suggestion about another trip is…go much further and deeper in oh, and don't change, as you say…just be yourself. Kindest regards.
Well done on your first European trip, I think you’ve got the bug 👍🏻 I’d recommend Northern Spain the Picos mountains which every biker should go to in their lifetime. Good point about the hotels but in mainland Europe not in countries like Norway, which we learned when we first visited, you need to plan and book hotels. Look forward to your next trip 👍🏻
@@laterrider we’re off on a wee trip ourselves next Saturday heading down to Austria and then back through Germany and Luxembourg on way back up for a week 😎
I've just finished watching all of your videos in a row. Really enjoyed it. I like your style and your calm way of narration. Needless to say I've subscribed right away. Might I suggest checking out the Ardennes and Eifel across Germany, Belgium France and Luxembourg. A really nice place to ride with great roads and lots and lots of places to see. There's plenty of castles and nice towns to check out as well as beautiful nature. Plus it's not far away from the UK as well.
Just stumbled across your channel. Really genuine and enjoyable so hope you keep Vlogging. I live in the Cotswolds so it was nice to see some of my own motorcycle haunts on film.
Hi Tony, really enjoyed the series, very well put together. Great tip on Atlas Obscura. Couldnt agree more regarding worrying about accomodation, although its easier said than done and it's nice to know you have secure parking lined up in advance. At the risk of repeating advice others have given, Tourenfahrer is a German magazine that have a good route planner on their website which includes info about biker-friendly hotels. The ability to search keywords in reviews on a "popular hotel booking site" is also handy for figuring out the parking situation in advance. My recommendations for your list are the French Alps (around Briancon), the Dolomites and the Grossglockner pass in Austria. I did a 6500km trip around the Alps 2 years ago and made every mistake imaginable, including the ones you mentioned and also dropping the bike, TWICE! It's all part of the fun. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you so much for your kind words and greatly appreciated recommendations… I’m only beginning to realise just how much more there is to see over in Europe! 😃
Found your channel and basically binged a lot. Great stuff imo. Very casual, relaxed and non-dramatic approach. Very very watchable. Glad I found your channel and most of all glad you decided to do this. Looking forward to your next road trip. ….. Australia?
If you liked the Normandy stuff, you will enjoy Ypres/ Flanders/the Somme. fantastic roads, incredible poignant sites and memorials and it’s not too far. Spent 5 days in June exploring, visited a distant relatives grave near the Somme and enjoyed the company of great minded friends.
Well I really enjoyed them. I did something similar around Normandy (minus the camera) as my first overseas motorcycle trip in 2018 and it was absolutely awesome. Was planning the ferry to Santander then riding through northern Spain over the Pyrenees and onto the Alps and back via Switzerland/Germany/Luxembourg and Belgium sometime in the not to distance future.
Great vlogs and series, just watched the lot in one go, FANTASTIC. For places to visit which I think you'll enjoy, try Oradour-sur-Glane, it's full of history, if but a little eerie and solemn. All the best for future vlogs. Subscribed, so I won't miss them.
@laterrider oh well guess you'll have to go again, lol. Always an excuse to go again I say. I'm the same and just got my full licence aged 52 and loving the bike and journeys so far. Did a trip round Wales and can't wait till my next one. Look forward to your new vlogs
May I politely suggest a review of 'bike nights/meets' in the UK. Most are within a days ride, maybe an overnight thrown in if its a long trip. Reason I suggest UK bike nights is because while we all want to do European tours, how many of us truly do? I suspect "not that many" in all reality. But I do think most of us will make an effort to go to a decent 'bike night/meet'. Best one I have been to is Tuesday evening on Poole Quay.
Enjoyed your vids, for you first vids very good. I have not done any vlogs of my trips, but a lot of people ask me about the cost, as in ferry's, hotels, fuel, etc, just a few tips, what i think people will enjoy. But very good job really enjoyed.
Thank you planning to get my licence before end of the year... Try Poland I think it will be worth it I have covered sone miles on a bicycle and trailer st up beautiful country
Brilliant - love the channel - just binged watch the series so far. More about the bike please, good bits and bad bits. I had a Honda CX500 back in the 80's but as a young lad darn't go to far touring as I could't afford to. Hardly ridden any bikes since late 90's, certainly non of the modern tour/adventure bikes. What do your family think about you riding? My family don't want me to return to two wheels, let alone get my wife on the back! - Hopefully your adventures may change their mind set
Thank you for your very kind words! 😃 I have to say my family is incredibly supportive, but I’m not going to lie… I’m a BIG worrier when it comes to safety and so I always try my best to ride carefully because I REALLY don’t want to hurt myself. 😊 I hope you return to riding 😊
Next trip do Germany / Austria. I don't dislike France but in terms of welcome to bikers Germany is on the next level, and I suspect you may find it a little cheaper. My only other suggestion, find a couple of people to go with. Solo tours are great, but slightly longer ones, 10 days for example for a decent Austrian trip, are really much nicer with a couple of others to take some of the workload off you. Otherwise, look forward to seeing your next trip!
Awesome video…I wish I lived back in England so I could do this. America great to travel, but I find drivers in the US a little less attentive to people on motorcycles. Great series really enjoyed it. I hear Austria, Switzerland, and Luxenberg are amazing.
We did a big D-Day tour in 2020 and last we will did France again and made a documentary of Oradour-sir-Glane the massacre village which is a must visit. Last week we came back from Switzerland, did the mountain passes which were great, weather took a turn though so we headed back to France early. Next year we are looking at the Pyrenees popping in and out of France and Spain. Great videos really enjoyed watching them.
I like your content so far. Nice calming voice. No stupid music. Just natural sounds. That is the main thing. So many doing music videos is so annoying. I just hate them and will not watch them. Thanks. 🙂
I gave up on Garmin years ago. The GS that I had, had the bracket for the sat nav, to which I attached my trusty Tom tom. I enjoyed your trip.Great job of videoing as a first timer , I thought you must have done this before particularly thr audio. Austria is also absolutely superb for everything. Cheers.
I would recommend Croatia and Slovenia we went to lake bled this year for our annual tour and you are right don’t worry about where you go to stay at night we have never plan the trip just the amount of day we are going for and a rough destination and as for the nav 6 on the bmw I have three of them under warranty best thing to do with it is to buy a zumo xt as it does not have the bmw software on it if do some research you will see the problem they have the nav 6
I know the Loire area very well as we have a caravan there and would love to take my old GS out there. Years ago I did a week riding around the Massif Central not far from Clermont Ferrand - they publish bikers routes to try in the area. It was stunning, the volcanic area, valleys and ski resorts - well worth a visit. Loved your vids, really well put together, thanks!
Hi mate. I like your style and honesty. We have all worried about dropping our bikes, I’ve been riding for over 45 yrs and it still concerns me…especially as one gets older. It’s just that you don’t want to feel a prat, but it happens. I’ve lost my footing on car ferries which have given me a mild “heart attack”. My wife doesn’t go on my bikes and I’ve really tried to encourage her, buts it’s just not her thing. I’m a social animal and doing a trip on my own is not for me, but I’d ride with you on a holiday trip. The Italian Lakes are beautiful….Lake Garda.
@@laterriderI’m not sure that more riding shots would help. You have a refreshing individual style, adding lots of road mileage might dilute that and make your videos less individual. You’ve fallen on a formula that I think is original and good. The beauty of being a Euro touring debutant is that you don’t have to worry about where to go next, there are so many great places out there to visit and so many great routes to ride you could easily just start by putting on a blindfold and putting a pin in a map. The well known big name destinations are not always the best and adding them to your plans can lead to busy roads and crowded places.
I've just discovered this channel. Excellent videos, great production value. Your trip looks great, and I hope this channel goes from strength to strength. Keep up the great work, ride safe.
Excellent trip and thanks for the tips! Tips on technical setup of audio are always welcomed. It can be difficult to get the balance of narrating and background sound. Your calm and soothing voice is very nice on the ears in a world full of shouting and noise! See you in the next one!
I hope you find a more waterproof Jacket. It sucks being wet till the bare skin. A friend of mine always say that we're not made of sugar. He's right, but... I've enjoyed seing your videos. My wife and i were some years ago in the Normandy, also stayed in Bayeux. We were also at the American Cemetry which, for us gave Goosebumps. Keep up the good work!
Just found your channel and you remind me much of myself, self doubt are we doing the right thing but we get there in the end and I have just binge watched all of your videos from start to finish and I must say they are brilliant and really enjoyed them. I have cycled much of the Normandy coast and also visited on a few coach trips but now have the urge to go again solo on my motorbike.
Thanks so much Alan, I really appreciate your kind words and to be honest… I think “cycling” might actually be the best way to see this beautiful part of the world 😃
Great Video... Just keep doing what you are doing. Slow riding on a motorbike is so scary, but there is no rush. Can I suggest visiting one of the best cities in Europe LISBON in Portugal. Take care and ride safely - Les.
Nice videos, your sound quality is excellent and that is the best way to attract and keep subscribers. The ultimate riding in Europe is mountain riding. If you can find the time to do the route des grandes Alps from Thonon les Bains to Menton or the trans pyrenees route then you’ll really appreciate your new GS. I’ve done both and it’s life changing. Keep riding and enjoy.
Loving this series! I would look at some routes in Germany, especially around the Black Forest (more than just the B500!) - the roads are great and they like bikers in Germany! Wherever you go - ride safe, and enjoy. I look forward to seeing the videos!
The issue with the Garmin Nav 6 is the screen delaminates when exposed to colder weather and it becomes unusable. Garmin will replace the unit if you go via your dealer, I had mine replaced already and some I have heard have had them replaced already a few times. Garmin recognizes the fault and replaces it. The Garmin Zumo XT does not suffer from this fault apparently however will not sit as nice on the bike as the Nav 6 so many of us just put up with it.
Places to visit...the Alps and Pyranees is a must on a bike.....route Napoleon is great.....also avoid the bigger towns...riding tip, have a water proof over suit (light weight and easy to pack and a spare pare of light summer gloves which you can keep dry. PS Jealous been a while since I've been on a bike trip...
I have been biking abroad for many years. On the wife /partner issue, my wife was the same. Then she tried pillion, and then wanted to learn herself... Now on a her own Rebel 1100.. Your videos come across very well. It's hard to believe you have just started.. I wouldn't know where to start tbh😅. Look forward to your next one.. On a suggestion of where next? Spain 🇪🇸.. Especially away from the normal tourist spots.. .
Really enjoyed this series - came across your channel by accident. Fantastic quality especially as you are a new channel. I do hope you don’t change as so many Vloggers do. I’ve done a few solo bike trips the best so far is definitely the Swiss Alps (also part inspired by Baron Von Grumble 😀) That’s an amazing place to ride - more about the ride though rather than visiting places off the bike. If you want to get really good quality riding kit and advice a trip to Motolegends in Guildford is definitely money well spent. It’s not your usual bike clothing store though.
Just found your site. Watched a few videos and have subscribed. I enjoy your presenting style and the way you show the rides and the sites. I'm certain you'll go from strength to strength! Trips to Spain, southern France, Italy, Germany and Croatia would be viewed eagerly!! Well done!
Great vlog very enjoyable, first time well done . I don’t have any suggestions on how to improve your content but I will recommended motorcycling in Sweden / Norway it’s a great environment for bikers with forests / mountains lots of twisties not many cars outside of cities and it’s another experience everyone should try . Ride safe and I look forward to more adventures.
Great series, just binge watched the whole lot! Bought a new KTM Super Adventure a few weeks ago and im planning on doing something very similar to what you have done, just without the cameras!
That was an enjoyable little series, especially seeing you ride through my old haunts (St Mathurin) between Saumur and Angers; although you missed the Château in Angers! The Atlantic coast (côte sauvage) - Noirmoutier/Les Sables d'Ollone/La Tranche sur Mer/La Rochelle/Rochefort/Royan could make a good trip. As someone else says, there are plenty of chambres d'hôtes to stay in so you avoid the big chain hotels. One important tip: you don't normally pronounce the last letter in French words (Angers is pronounced 'on-jay'; Blois is 'blwah' 😉
Congratulations.. you have created a very nice mini-series. Given that it is your first one, I think you have done an incredible job. I greatly enjoyed your relaxed, open and informative style and I look forward to your next trip. Given that I live in southern Spain, I am somewhat biased, but I am sure you would enjoy a trip through northern Spain or any part of Spain for that matter.
Really enjoyed your France trip and I'm happy you had a fab time :). Your videos really inspired me to make my own trips, I've just ordered a BMW f850 GS Adventure with the idea to do some road trips myself, I live in Switzerland so there lots of great places to see and easily accessible surrounding countries to explore. What I like about your videos was that you shared your fears and at times nervous feelings with us. I'm new to Adv bikes and to be honest I'm really nervous too, in case I drop the bike, make a newbie mistake or something else haha. Entering the motorbike world seemed very daunting to me it seemed like everyone was very experienced and confined with their bikes, but your videos have given me more confidence and I hope to meet people similar to yourself along my journeys :). Thank you so much for sharing your trip with everyone it was awesome and you seem such a genuine friendly guy! As for your future trips maybe Spain, or somewhere I hope to go, Denmark & Sweden. Have a great summer and I hope to see more videos from you soon :)
WOW, what an amazing message… thank you so so much for your VERY kind words! I have to say I was SORELY tempted by the F850… a stunning bike… you’re going to have sooooooo much fun on that! 😃
@@laterrider you’re welcome ☺️. Your videos were great so I wanted to share my appreciation. That’s great to hear you were interested in the f850 too, what made you choose the R1250 instead? I only have the A2 license so the f850 is as big as I can get, my dream has always been to have the R1250 but unfortunately I’ll have to wait a few more years until I get the full licence 😅. The R1250 definitely seems more popular than the f850, I can see why as it’s lovely. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and I’ll subscribe so I can look forward to your next adventures. Have a beautiful day and ride safe 😊☀️
@@Life_of_James’as big as I can get’. With touring bikes bigger does not necessarily mean better. A couple of years ago I downsized from an ST1300 to a 500X and find the smaller bike suits my touring style so much better I’ve almost doubled my annual mileage. I must add that your suggestions of places to visit come straight from a UA-cam influencer’s list of places to promote. There are so many other places out there, you must not allow yourself to be blinkered into thinking that the ‘famous’ places are the best.
@@davidmatthews3093 of course, a bigger bike isn’t always better. I have dreamt of owning a GS for 10yrs, finally I have the means and opportunity to get one, maybe a smaller bike will be better, but for now I’m looking forward to living my dream. Yes, there are many other places to visit but I’ve always wanted to go to Scandinavia, doesn’t matter whether it’s an influencers idea it doesn’t mean us folks cant enjoy it too. I personally wouldn’t go riding off road in a far away country yet because I don’t t have the skills or experience for that, I just want to enjoy my bike. And I really enjoyed the videos of Later Rider and I was really happy to see him enjoying his travels and bike that’s what it’s all about, people can go where they want 😊
Honestly, the F850 (in my very limited experience) is just a beautiful looking bike. Previous to buying this 1250GS, my bike up until 4 months ago was an F750. This was my first bike that I bought 4 years ago and the ONLY reason I didn’t by the F850 at the time was because I was too intimidated by its height! ……. But if you looked on my windows desktop you’d see a picture of the F850 All kitted out 😂 You’ve got a beautiful bike - you don’t need anything bigger 😃
I've just done 2500k miles in northern Spain and France. The best thing I did was to book accommodation the night before and keep it 150/200 miles each day 😂😂
Hi Tony, highly enjoyable set of vlogs, binge watched them all in one go this morning 😊 Excellent standard considering this was your first go at it, as good as any out there imo. Def keep going. Subscribed 👍
Thank you 😊 yes, the Garmin stopped working. They replaced it - but like you - I just rely on my phone now. In fact I struggle to see why anyone would use a Garmin when they have a decent phone?!? 🤔
Good series of videos - gennuiness and honesty is alway good. I liked the summary at the end although it would have been useful to have a summary of the cost. What next and how do you make your vids unique - there's a lot of biker/UA-camrs doing similar things. Perhaps reviewing some of your kit for your next trip and also, how you went about planning/prepping for this trip?
I have enjoyed your mini series. It's always great to see people off on their first trip. I agree with most of your points learnt unless you are travelling in a bigger group, when you really need to put some thought into accommodation. The mileage is really important. I think you tour in a similar way to me and my buddies. We call it 'coffee & cake' touring! We want to see things and have periods of fast riding but generally chug around taking it all in. I've never toured solo and probably wouldn't as I like sharing the experience. Never say never, though! I can recommend the Picos De Europa and the Pyrenees. Neither will disappoint. If you wanted something a little bit closer, maybe The Ardennes in Belgium.
Thank you so much for your very kind words… I just wish I’d called my channel “Coffee & Cake Touring!” 😃 I also love your suggestion for “Picos De Europa”… I’ve just googled it - it looks amazing!
Hi Tony, I really enjoyed your mini trip😊 Very brave of you to go touring on your new bike. I would love to go on my bike somewhere hot, so I did think a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander in Spain a have a short tour around there? But my bike isn’t as comfortable as yours 😂
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Have you ridden through the Pyrenees? That sounds like a great idea but I’m wondering if it’s a bit challenging for a relatively new rider?
Tony, this is great, honest and engaging content, well done 👍🏼 You mentioned an app or online resource in one of your videos i now can't find that tells you stuff about different areas ? Maybe I haven't described thst properly but can you recall what it was called ? Kind regards Andy
That’s an interesting suggestion - and I really like that idea! 😃 Can I ask what you mean by paperwork? Do I need something extra? I confess I only really take my insurance details? 😳
Hey, new sub here. Watching this a bit back to front... I was also in France for 10 days in early August on my Kawasaki Z1000SX. I had terrible weather... I'm going to call the series "Le tour de Pluie" 😅 I agree with a lot of what you said. I had all my routes planned and accommodation booked since early in the year 🙄 and some days were too long in the saddle 😅 My videos of this trip won't come out until later in the year as I'm currently publishing videos of a trip to Wales done in June
Thank you so much - and I wish you every success with your own channel 😃
This is why I love UA-cam! I can watch some random fella who I would never meet in real life take his first continental biking trip and its strangely interesting and entertaining! Great series. Blasted through all episodes and enjoyed it! Thanks for producing the content!
What an amazing message… that’s absolutely made my day!!! 😃
Cheers.
Thanks so much… for your kind words and recommendations 😃
In your last report you asked for views on how you could improve. I say, carry on as you are. Your honest comments, including the uncertainties of bike drops etc, which I fear myself, are perfect. Keep doing them as this series has been. Very refreshing and great watching. Keep going. Thanks for the shows.👍
Thank you so much! :-)
Totally and fantastic editing which I cannot do to save my life!
Thank you, that is very much appreciated 😃
Only came across your site a couple of hours ago and watched this series. Hard to believe it’s your first vlogs as they’re so well done and you just get on with enjoying your trip. Have subscribed and looking forward to your next trip. Take care
Thanks so much, I’m delighted you liked them 😃
Have only just stumbled onto your channel and this tour and have to say it was fantastic.
Thank you for your suggestions - especially Belgium because I’d not considered that and really like the idea of it 😃
Loved your first big trip, and great tips. More and more and definitely more of France please. My best tip: stay in AirBnb's with French people. I've met the nicest people that way, in a little rented Citroen road trip, but can't wait to go on my bike next!
Thanks so much Louise, I really appreciate your message and I LOVE your tip to stay in Airbnb’s with French people 😃
I used to love making as much km a day as posible.
I hear you - riding a bike is a great way to unwind. I wish you the best of health and many more happy years riding 😊
Great series of videos, I love France and live motorcycle touring, so watching your trip was ace. Hope to see more of your adventures soon. Cheers. Matt.
Thanks Matt - I really appreciate that 😃
Only just found your channel and very enjoyable it was too.
So I’m getting there slowly 😃
Once again thank you for your kind words and I hope you both have a great summer on two wheels 😃
I will indeed take a look at some of your videos - thank you 😃
Brilliant little series on every level. Thank you.
Thank you so much 🙏
Hi just a thought on your sat nav issue, in France if you're using the postcode equivalent to fing locations, the french area codes cover a much bigger area than the UK postcodes. In rural France a postcode can cover quite a few villages....
I did not know that - thank you so much that’s very helpful! 😃
We’ll done! You did a brilliant job for your first vlogging tour - we really enjoyed it! 😀👍
Thank you so much :-D
Thanks Tony, a great little series and I enjoyed it very much. I normally go on guided trips these days as my mrs hung up her helmet years ago. Quite fancy a little jolly about France on my own though, as the freedom to please your self really appeals so this may have inspired me to finally have a go. Look forward to your next one,👍
That’s just awesome Danny! I really hope you go… and as you say… you do get a genuine sense of freedom when you travel alone 😃
My dad has been all over Europe and swears by the picos mountains, northern Spain. Can’t wait for the next series
Thanks Paul, that’s surely got to be my next destination, everyone keeps saying such good things about the Picos Mountains 😃
Try Narbonne I stay there & do a Rideout every day. Do use the A75 toll free and a great ride as long as you're out of season 😊
I really like the idea of that - thank you for the suggestion 😃
@@laterrider I stayed at
Maison stGeorges in Coursan
Thank you 😃
It was very good parking at them hotels . Just relax says me who’s never done it . Switzerland 👍🏍
You’re right 😊
Suggestions for your next trip...... that's easy......
Superb, great thoughts, am getting excited about planning my first non UK trip Bath to Lake Como and back… a bit tight in just a week but can’t wait.
That is going to be an amazing ride - I hope it goes well for you (and thank you for your very kind words) 😃
Thank you for your kind words and I really like the idea of riding to an area and wife!
I’d be panicking if I hadn’t found a hotel by 10.15pm! 😃
Thank you so much! 😃 ps. Triumph scrambler would be lovely 😃
You are doing great very interesting and relatable. Keep up the great work. We’ve been to the south of France and you gave me the hitch to see the northern parts. Som much to see !
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind comments. Personally… I need to get down to the south of France! 😃
That’s wonderful to hear! I hope you have a fantastic time over there 😃
@@laterrider❤
👍
I just stumbled across this channel and enjoyed the tour. A pretty decent first effort here I think.
Thanks so much 😃
I have just found you also, I have watched this vlog, now I am off to watch the whole trip. Looking forward to it. My suggestion for a trip would the Gorafe mountains and Desert in Spain, I am hoping to go there in November.
Thank you for your recommendation… I confess it’s not one I’ve heard of before , I will certainly check it out 😃
Just come across your site. What a superb production considering you are just starting out. Keep up with the channel and I so look forward to many more adventures.
Thanks so much Ian - I REALLY appreciate your kind words :-)
Well done ! Great to have your slant on solo European touring. Some great reference points for us there...thanks 👌
Thanks Paul 😃
Thank you so much for your kind words and recommendations. It’s only since I got back that I realise just how much more there is to see in France! 😃
Great videos and you have a great style in your commentary. Get your better half on the bike, she'll love it, you meet the best people on a bike👍
Very well said 😃
And now you should get over to Spain for great roads, road surfaces, no traffic and fantastic scenery.
As a bonus, everything is cheaper than France but the ferry is expensive.
Thank you for the suggestion and I think (hope) Spain will be next 🤞
I enjoyed watching this tour series & this vlog. Thanks. I’m looking forward to more.
Thank you so much for your suggestion and you are absolutely right - I’m embarrassed to say I completely missed the STOP sign 😫
Thanks so much, I greatly appreciate your kind words 😃
Well done on your first European trip, I think you’ve got the bug 👍🏻 I’d recommend Northern Spain the Picos mountains which every biker should go to in their lifetime. Good point about the hotels but in mainland Europe not in countries like Norway, which we learned when we first visited, you need to plan and book hotels. Look forward to your next trip 👍🏻
Thank you for your kind words and suggestions - much appreciated 😃
@@laterrider we’re off on a wee trip ourselves next Saturday heading down to Austria and then back through Germany and Luxembourg on way back up for a week 😎
That sounds amazing! 😃
Wow, thank you so much for your very kind (and greatly appreciated) words. Thank you also for your suggestions on where to go… some great ideas! 😃
Great videos really enjoyed watching them please can i have more
Thank you - I really appreciate that… hopefully more this year - if my wife lets me disappear for a few days 😃
Just stumbled across your channel. Really genuine and enjoyable so hope you keep Vlogging. I live in the Cotswolds so it was nice to see some of my own motorcycle haunts on film.
Thank you for upper kind words - the Cotswolds is a truly stunning part of the world 😊
Hi Tony, really enjoyed the series, very well put together.
….. Australia?
Wow, thank you so much! I REALLY appreciate your very kind comments 😃
Thanks so much for the recommendation
I live Costa brave if ever near Ulla you stay here if need place to stay lovely roads
Thanks John 😃
Well I really enjoyed them. I did something similar around Normandy (minus the camera) as my first overseas motorcycle trip in 2018 and it was absolutely awesome. Was planning the ferry to Santander then riding through northern Spain over the Pyrenees and onto the Alps and back via Switzerland/Germany/Luxembourg and Belgium sometime in the not to distance future.
Thank you - The Pyrenees ride would be amazing! :-)
Great vlogs and series, just watched the lot in one go, FANTASTIC.
For places to visit which I think you'll enjoy, try Oradour-sur-Glane, it's full of history, if but a little eerie and solemn. All the best for future vlogs. Subscribed, so I won't miss them.
Thank you so much… I REALLY appreciate your kind words and suggestions. I really wish I’d gone there 😕
@laterrider oh well guess you'll have to go again, lol. Always an excuse to go again I say. I'm the same and just got my full licence aged 52 and loving the bike and journeys so far. Did a trip round Wales and can't wait till my next one. Look forward to your new vlogs
Thanks so much and Wales is beautiful 😃
Just found your channel..absolutely brilliant

Thanks so much! :-D
That’s an interesting idea 🤔
Enjoyed your vids, for you first vids very good. I have not done any vlogs of my trips, but a lot of people ask me about the cost, as in ferry's, hotels, fuel, etc, just a few tips, what i think people will enjoy. But very good job really enjoyed.
Thank you so much for your very helpful suggestions, I think to include “costs” next time make a lot of sense 🤔
Thank you planning to get my licence before end of the year... Try Poland I think it will be worth it I have covered sone miles on a bicycle and trailer st up beautiful country
Poland… that could be really good… I like the idea of that 🤔
Brilliant - love the channel - just binged watch the series so far.
I have to say my family is incredibly supportive, but I’m not going to lie… I’m a BIG worrier when it comes to safety and so I always try my best to ride carefully because I REALLY don’t want to hurt myself. 😊
I hope you return to riding 😊
Rudesheim on the Rhine valley and ride through the Ardenne to Bastogne via Clervaux.
Thanks so much Susan 😊
Next trip do Germany / Austria. I don't dislike France but in terms of welcome to bikers Germany is on the next level, and I suspect you may find it a little cheaper. My only other suggestion, find a couple of people to go with. Solo tours are great, but slightly longer ones, 10 days for example for a decent Austrian trip, are really much nicer with a couple of others to take some of the workload off you. Otherwise, look forward to seeing your next trip!
Thanks so much Tony 😃
Awesome video…I wish I lived back in England so I could do this. America great to travel, but I find drivers in the US a little less attentive to people on motorcycles. Great series really enjoyed it. I hear Austria, Switzerland, and Luxenberg are amazing.
Thanks so much 🙏
We did a big D-Day tour in 2020 and last we will did France again and made a documentary of Oradour-sir-Glane the massacre village which is a must visit. Last week we came back from Switzerland, did the mountain passes which were great, weather took a turn though so we headed back to France early. Next year we are looking at the Pyrenees popping in and out of France and Spain. Great videos really enjoyed watching them.
Thanks so much and I hope you have a fantastic time on your next tour 😊
I like your content so far. Nice calming voice. No stupid music. Just natural sounds. That is the main thing. So many doing music videos is so annoying. I just hate them and will not watch them. Thanks. 🙂
Thanks John
Such fun to have been going along with you on this trip!!
Thanks Chris - I really appreciate that. 😃
Cheers.
Thank you for your very kind words and I agree, Austria is stunning 😃
I would recommend Croatia and Slovenia we went to lake bled this year for our annual tour and you are right don’t worry about where you go to stay at night we have never plan the trip just the amount of day we are going for and a rough destination and as for the nav 6 on the bmw I have three of them under warranty best thing to do with it is to buy a zumo xt as it does not have the bmw software on it if do some research you will see the problem they have the nav 6
Thanks so much for the advice Keith - very much appreciated 😃
Excellent suggestions - thank you 😃
Good and calm videos. Subscribed.
Thanks so much 😃
Great to see a more mature chap getting into biking and sharing the experience. Good content, keep it up!
Thanks so much 😃
Great vlogs content and approach - you naturally add context for those not so experienced .. good work !
Thank you - very much appreciated 😃
That was a great series if videos. Thanks.
Thanks so much 😃
I have really enjoyed it all Tony
Thanks so much Andrew 😃
I know the Loire area very well as we have a caravan there and would love to take my old GS out there. Years ago I did a week riding around the Massif Central not far from Clermont Ferrand - they publish bikers routes to try in the area. It was stunning, the volcanic area, valleys and ski resorts - well worth a visit. Loved your vids, really well put together, thanks!
Thanks so much 😃
You nailed it… you don’t want to feel a prat by dropping it 😫
Came across your site tonight and really enjoyed the content and very well done. I'm subscribed.
Thanks so much 😃
Love the mini series, really enjoy the video.
One thing I would love to see is more riding clips.
Hope to see more moto blog from you.
Thanks so much for your feedback (and kind words)… you’re right, I should have filmed more riding footage 🤔
Thanks so much David
I've just discovered this channel. Excellent videos, great production value. Your trip looks great, and I hope this channel goes from strength to strength. Keep up the great work, ride safe.
Thanks so much 😃
Excellent trip and thanks for the tips! Tips on technical setup of audio are always welcomed. It can be difficult to get the balance of narrating and background sound. Your calm and soothing voice is very nice on the ears in a world full of shouting and noise! See you in the next one!
Thanks so much Matt, very much appreciated 😃
I hope you find a more waterproof Jacket. It sucks being wet till the bare skin. A friend of mine always say that we're not made of sugar. He's right, but...
I've enjoyed seing your videos. My wife and i were some years ago in the Normandy, also stayed in Bayeux. We were also at the American Cemetry which, for us gave Goosebumps.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your kind words and I’m pleased to say I have now invested in a new jacket 😃
Thanks for the suggestion 😃
Nice videos, your sound quality is excellent and that is the best way to attract and keep subscribers. The ultimate riding in Europe is mountain riding. If you can find the time to do the route des grandes Alps from Thonon les Bains to Menton or the trans pyrenees route then you’ll really appreciate your new GS. I’ve done both and it’s life changing. Keep riding and enjoy.
Thanks so much… PS… I love your channel name “SlaveToTheRoad” 😃
Loving this series! I would look at some routes in Germany, especially around the Black Forest (more than just the B500!) - the roads are great and they like bikers in Germany! Wherever you go - ride safe, and enjoy. I look forward to seeing the videos!
Thanks Steve - I’d love to tour Germany 😃
The issue with the Garmin Nav 6 is the screen delaminates when exposed to colder weather and it becomes unusable. Garmin will replace the unit if you go via your dealer, I had mine replaced already and some I have heard have had them replaced already a few times. Garmin recognizes the fault and replaces it. The Garmin Zumo XT does not suffer from this fault apparently however will not sit as nice on the bike as the Nav 6 so many of us just put up with it.
That’s exactly the problem… very frustrating 😕
Places to visit...the Alps and Pyranees is a must on a bike.....route Napoleon is great.....also avoid the bigger towns...riding tip, have a water proof over suit (light weight and easy to pack and a spare pare of light summer gloves which you can keep dry. PS Jealous been a while since I've been on a bike trip...
Thanks so much for these tips mate 😃
Loved watching your French roadtrip. How about one on Germany's Romantic Road from Wurzburg to Fussen.
That sounds like it could be a great trip!
Well done, really enjoyed it, thanks.
Thanks so much 😃
I have been biking abroad for many years. Spain 🇪🇸.. Especially away from the normal tourist spots..
.
Thank you so much and I wish you BOTH happy safe travels 😃
Really enjoyed this series - came across your channel by accident. Fantastic quality especially as you are a new channel. I do hope you don’t change as so many Vloggers do.
I’ve done a few solo bike trips the best so far is definitely the Swiss Alps (also part inspired by Baron Von Grumble 😀) That’s an amazing place to ride - more about the ride though rather than visiting places off the bike.
If you want to get really good quality riding kit and advice a trip to Motolegends in Guildford is definitely money well spent. It’s not your usual bike clothing store though.
Thanks so much for the recommendation (and your kind words) 😃
Just found your site. Watched a few videos and have subscribed. I enjoy your presenting style and the way you show the rides and the sites. I'm certain you'll go from strength to strength! Trips to Spain, southern France, Italy, Germany and Croatia would be viewed eagerly!! Well done!
Thanks so much for your kind words… and recommendations 😃
Great vlog very enjoyable, first time well done . I don’t have any suggestions on how to improve your content but I will recommended motorcycling in Sweden / Norway it’s a great environment for bikers with forests / mountains lots of twisties not many cars outside of cities and it’s another experience everyone should try . Ride safe and I look forward to more adventures.
Thank you so much Nigel… I REALLY like the idea of Sweden/Norway 😃
French baking is the best in the world, I have to bring various fondants home for my wife. 😅
I hear you 😃
Great series, just binge watched the whole lot!
Bought a new KTM Super Adventure a few weeks ago and im planning on doing something very similar to what you have done, just without the cameras!
Well I hope you have a fantastic time 😃
That was an enjoyable little series, especially seeing you ride through my old haunts (St Mathurin) between Saumur and Angers; although you missed the Château in Angers!
Thanks so much for your tips - I really appreciate them 🙏😃 PS. I should have gone to the Chateau in Angers 😕
I’m sure you’re right - I’m thinking Spain may be next. Thank you for your very kind words 😃
……. But if you looked on my windows desktop you’d see a picture of the F850 All kitted out 😂
You’ve got a beautiful bike - you don’t need anything bigger 😃
I've just done 2500k miles in northern Spain and France. The best thing I did was to book accommodation the night before and keep it 150/200 miles each day 😂😂
Good advice
1.45 guy forgets for a moment which side of the road .. quick readjust! Fun fact: before the war France in fact drove on the left!
I got “confused” 😬
@@laterrideryou pulled into a road situation that took a bit of working out and corrected yourself in plenty of time. Good awareness on your part.
Thanks 😊
Hi Tony, highly enjoyable set of vlogs, binge watched them all in one go this morning 😊 Excellent standard considering this was your first go at it, as good as any out there imo. Def keep going. Subscribed 👍
Wow, thanks so much!
Great content . Subscribed. did the Garmin break ? I always use my phone . 🏴
Thank you 😊
yes, the Garmin stopped working.
Thank you for the excellent suggestions David - very much appreciated 😃
Italy would be a nice next destination! 😉
You’re absolutely right 😃
I have enjoyed your mini series.
Thank you so much for your very kind words… I just wish I’d called my channel “Coffee & Cake Touring!” 😃
I also love your suggestion for “Picos De Europa”… I’ve just googled it - it looks amazing!
@@laterrider The UKGSers forum is a fantastic resource for all things GS related but especially touring. I have a 1250 as well. 👍
I can add the Massif Central, Auvergne or Dordogne.
Thanks for the recommendations 😃
Really enjoying your video's! I can recommend The Netherlands for your next trip.
Thanks so much! The Netherlands makes total sense as I could reach there reasonably easily - thank you for the suggestion 😃
@@laterrider I'd be happy to show you the area or give you some tips if you decide to come to The Netherlands. Just let me know.
I bet Northern Spain would be a beautiful ride… I hope you go 😃
For some suggestions on where to go next (in France)…. The Alps, the Pyrenees, and on your way a town called Oradour sur glane.
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Have you ridden through the Pyrenees? That sounds like a great idea but I’m wondering if it’s a bit challenging for a relatively new rider?
@@laterrider no it’s on my bucket list, if Tour de France can do it on bicycles then so can we I think
Well said 😃
Tony, this is great, honest and engaging content, well done 👍🏼 You mentioned an app or online resource in one of your videos i now can't find that tells you stuff about different areas ? Maybe I haven't described thst properly but can you recall what it was called ? Kind regards Andy
Hi Andy, sure, it was Atlas Obscura, here’s the link…

@@laterrider Ah thanks Tony 💪🏼
No worries
Enjoyed the vlogs.....May be the nc500 next ?
Thanks Graham… and I think that’s a very good idea 😃
How about Berlin, I quite fancy a trip there. Also, give a minute to what paperwork is required. Enjoying what you're doing so far.👍
That’s an interesting suggestion - and I really like that idea! 😃
Can I ask what you mean by paperwork? Do I need something extra? I confess I only really take my insurance details? 😳
@@laterriderV5, insurance and MOT (if required).
Oh… I confess I didn’t have my V5 (MOT not yet applicable) but I’ll certainly carry that next time - thank you
Hey, new sub here. Watching this a bit back to front...
I was also in France for 10 days in early August on my Kawasaki Z1000SX. I had terrible weather... I'm going to call the series "Le tour de Pluie" 😅
I agree with a lot of what you said. I had all my routes planned and accommodation booked since early in the year 🙄 and some days were too long in the saddle 😅
My videos of this trip won't come out until later in the year as I'm currently publishing videos of a trip to Wales done in June
Thanks so much for subscribing and I wish you every success with your own videos 😃
