@@boochtron Honestly yeah not too many games caught my eye this year. But it’s my opinion and I enjoyed Horizon a lot more than Ragnarok. HFW has my favorite combat system ever. What’s your GOTY?
@@boochtron Nice yeah I’ve watched a good amount of Elden Ring gameplay and I don’t think it’s for me. But I understand it must an amazing game given how many people love it. I played Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls remake a fair amount and they never really clicked for me. HFW is a end of the top ten kind of game in your opinion. In my opinion it’s amazing and one of my favorite games
One of my favorite videos KF has ever done. An absolute blast with incredible production, chemistry and commentary. KF rules. Much love to the team and to the best friends
Huge smile on my face seeing the whole KF games crew in person. Great episode and looking forward to a great 2023! P.s. shout out to the line up of games on the desk video monitors . Such a great touch!!
Barrett, when you read this, know I appreciate you for the Pentiment love. Otherwise, this is a solid list. I'm not surprised by the top 3, or the order. Great production everyone!
GREAT stuff KF crew! Played all the games in top 10 minus Kirby. I think this was a predictable top 5 outcome but enjoyed the chat regardless. Janet I got your back on HFW..my clear GOTY still enjoying it further after NG+ Plagues Tale should’ve been higher IMO. Just a joy to see you all together
My favorite episode of every year did not disappoint! Killer job with the graphics, and it was so fun seeing seven people at the desk (plus Barrett on mic)!
Wooooooowww!!!! The Spare Bedroom set is so inspiring and motivating!!! It really shows off its value in this episode. As a creative, and soon to be business owner, I truly appreciate what having this studio has done for Kinda Funny. Again, congrats on the new home and keep brining the amazing content!!
I’ve been watching you guys ever since covid started so I’m glad to see where you’ve guys have gone with the set and production :) keep up the good work!
Shout-out to Mike, there are only two of my top ten list represented here, so I feel you! What a great year for games that there can be such a diversity of quality titles in the top ten, honourable mentions and beyond
I know everyone has touched on how special it is that everyone is in the same room together, and it is very special. Though, there’s one addition to this episode people have left under appreciated… and it’s the fact that daddy Parris was serving us the gun show this whole episode! God damn!!!
Awesome list presented in the most fun way again! Loved the discussions. My own top 10 for the year would be: 1) Kirby and the Forgotten Land (man did this game shock the hell out of me. I've never LOVED a Kirby game before, but this game blew me away, especially with its endgame) 2) AI: the Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative (Kotaro Uchikoshi is the best script and scenario writer in all of games, and his new game just proves that even further) 3) Live A Live (finally got a chance to play this legendary JRPG I've heard about all my life and it lived up to the hype and was remade beautifully) 4) Splatoon 3 (most fun multiplayer game I've played this year with the best online experience of any competitive modern game, and a shockingly good story mode) 5) Elden Ring (finally a worthy open-world game to properly take up the BotW mantle, and with wonderful FromSoft combat design and an amazing world) 6) Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (some of the most fun I've had with Pokemon of all time, wonderful music, plot, characters, and new Pokemon. Everything I could ask for in a Pokemon game) 7) Sonic Frontiers (shockingly fun, unexpectedly good writing, amazing soundtrack, a surprisingly good implementation of Sonic speed puzzles into a BotW-style open "zone") 8) Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (still not to the series' heights I want from the first game, but a phenomenal story nonetheless with the best soundtrack of the year) 9) Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (the best G-Rank expansion since MH4U, improving on the immensely fun game even more, can't wait for more new monsters) 10) Pokemon Legends Arceus (shocked at how good the endgame is and the primary gameplay loop is addicting)
Even though I personally don't agree with most of this list, the variety in games this year is nice to see. My top 10 would be 1. Grounded 1.0 2. Pentiment 3. GOW Ragnarok 4. Trails from Zero 5. Nobody Saves the World 6. A Plague Tale Requiem 7. Sonic Frontiers 8. Tunic 9. High on Life 10. FF7 Crisis Core Reunion
Glad to see HFW in top 5 (but sad to see it was the most negatively discussed of any other game in the top 10). I do not hear many people talk about HFW arena challenges. I thought it was a very interesting idea but worldwide leaderboards are not usually my thing and those times felt impossible to beat. I do not know how people set those records. Vegas was a stand out moment with stand out characters, but that was not the only moment. Flying for the first time and being able to pick up EMP bombs to drop on enemies just because. All the moments with Kotallo but especially in the beginning when he brings all that tension. The singing land gods. Regalla. I can go on. HFW also started an interesting question about what is love and what does love look like. There are questions about if Elizabeth's lover really love her. However, this conversation around GoWR really challenge me on what my GotY. I thought it was HFW, but this conversation reminded how GoWR has some really good lines and moments that will stick with me. I will never forget the scene where Aloy realizes it is Rost still pushing her forward, but those lines will not stick with me as much as Brock talking about the nature of a thing being more important than the form. Thank you. I appreciate how this discussion made me reevaluate my own opinions.
I wasn't a fan of the melee combat. It was improved but still a bit messy to me but the challenges were great tutorials/ I didn't mention the flight cause it's a bit spoilery. I will say we were plenty negative on Pokemon Scarlet/violet. I think one reason you don't hear more negatives on our other games is 1. some folks may not have played it 2. depending on timing for a list like this most of us defer to folks who liked it rather than didn't. so I think this was more negative because everyone had opinions on it Thanks for watching and giving your two cents.
@@Gameonysus I did not mind the melee combat. Though I might not have used it as much as others since I usually stealth or arrow my way around things. Still, when things went sideways and I had to fight my way out of a situation, it still felt good. If they can make it better I am all for it. My biggest issue with the game is not having underwater combat. It feels like they have a lot of underwater areas you can explore, but having no underwater combat made me only do the things underwater needed for the Platinum. I hope they add that for the next game. I apologize. You are right. The conversation around Scarlet & Violet was plenty negative. It just feels like HFW is judge a bit too harshly (not just here). I really hope more people give it a try or pick it up again. I enjoyed watching. Thanks for making my two cents feel like it was worth something.
I didn't expect to see it in their aggregated list, but the fact that no one even had it in their individual top 10 list hurt my soul lol. At least the Live A Live remake got an honorable mention!
You guys are really missing out on A Plague Tale Requiem. it had by far one of the best stories in not just of the year, but past decade. Plus gamplay wise it is a much bigger than the first which was already a fun game.
Elden Ring is not a game I played or intend to play (not my cup of tea), but the one I was most interested to see where it landed considering I knew Greg, Tim, and Janet didn't have it in their top 10. Great show and great list! Kudos to Barrett for a spectacular production!
@@TheAndyCortez absolutely! Parris was the ringer for sure, I thought Barrett might have it at 3 or 4 but Parris putting it at #2 was unexpected but cool.

thank you for being the one place that is giving Sifu its well deserved flowers. that game was my heart’s choice for GOTY. seeing it be left off so many lists over the last month or so has been frustrating, good to know i can count on y’all being real ones.
Man, I just did not get into Immortality or Sifu like y'all did. Personally 1. Horizon Forbidden West 2. Bayonetta 3 3. Kirby & The Forgotten Land 4. Tunic 5. Multiversus 6. Fortnite No-Build 7. Tinykin 8. Vampire Survivors 9. Stray 10. TMNT Shredder's Revenge I did not like Elden Ring and I only played the prologue of Ragnarok.
Horizon was my game of the year. Felt extremely bold in it's story, and had the best combat hands down. Exploration was fantastic - the fights were varied and challenging in plenty of ways. How can iterative be used against a game when so many games are sequels?
I think Janet’s humor is elite status. I can’t tell you how many times I cracked up watching this video and she slipped in a jab or slick joke and was completely missed. Also, that instrumental for #9, cult of the lamb, is that from the game? It’s sick!!!!
Great job and another great year everyone! Love that so many games that flew under a lot of people's radars were so high on this list. Bless, keep absolutely killing it! Janet, you've improved a lot, and it feels like you've started to really carve out your space here. Mike and Andy- keep being amazing! Parris is always great! Greg and Tim are OKAY I guess. Just have to throw in my thoughts on the top spot. While I knew it was going to get 2nd before starting this video, Elden Ring not winning GOTY is so hard for me to accept. GOW was absolutely incredible, and a game I'll think about for a long time, but Elden Ring was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. It made me feel like a little kid discovering the magic of video games again. I will remember that initial playthrough for the rest of my life. I genuinely think it's the greatest video game ever made. I really wish more of the KF crew would give it a real chance! Feels like that's always met with the "it's not for me" line, but that if they really came at it with an open mind and some time, they'd fall in love with it too. Keep being awesome everyone!
Couldn’t agree more. First half was pretty surprising to me. Top two were THE choices, imo. Still need to get to Sifu. I keep remembering the original review and not being fully bought in, but to think I need to take the dip.
Long-time fan here! First off, so happy to see an amazing year of games celebrated by an incredible crew of video game experts and lovers. Loved hearing your thoughts on the games and what they brought to your life and gaming experiences in 2022. That said, given your amazing track record of warning about major spoilers, I was really bummed out to get so many major God of War Ragnarok spoilers thrown out in the span of a few seconds with zero warning. Because of this, now I don't get to experience those surprises myself. I know you cover games for a living and get excited, and maybe I should have just turned off the video quicker after the first spoiler. That said, you could even tell how uncomfortable the team was with how those spoilers got thrown out there. Maybe I should have performed more diligence as a fan who hadn't completed GoW Ragnarok, but whoever is to blame for my experience, I know Kratos said "Don't be sorry, be better.", so hopefully all of us can be better at avoiding/discussing spoilers in 2023. Cheers and much love, thank you for what you do
Glad to see I'm not alone in this feeling, regarding the spoilers. I wasn't too worried about it because they did a great job avoiding spoilers on all the way up until Ragnarok. Greg really does seem unable to help himself and it can be really frustrating at times. 😖
@@CatGuyNeko Totally with you my friend. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to hate on Greg, but like you it totally caught me off guard. I know he probably just got so excited doing what he loves it slipped out. I know the team listens to fan feedback so that’s why it felt necessary to say something. Again, much love to Greg and the team for what they do! ❤️
Blessing, you’ve talked about coming into your own amongst everyone… you’ve done it right here. It’s so brilliant to see you grow since joining Kinda Funny. This episode in particular, especially seeing Tim and Gregg watching like father figures either side of you, shows how much you’ve levelled up. Look forward to seeing your future growth along with the team. Hope Kinda Funny’s year goes well 👍
This was a great presentation for Game of The Year. For me, I would have picked Marvel Midnight Suns over Marvel Snap. I only played Snap for a week before burning out. Midnight Suns got it’s claws in me and I was excited about Platinuming it. Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts, Kinda Funny Crew!
Kinda Funny has been crossing the line between their opinions of games with PR with actors and devs of games. Why is the lead of the game ready on queue to walk out on set for a bit? First Callisto, now this. You really need to think about your actions and how they look to people watching.
Barrett once again showing he has the best taste in video games by putting Pentiment at number 4. Genuinely can't believe not a single other person voted for it. Honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had playing a video game.
One of my favorite episodes of the year. Awesome to see everyone together! Here's my personal list: 1. Elden Ring 2. Rogue Legacy 2 3. God of War Ragnarök 4. Tunic 5. Citizen Sleeper 6. Vampire Survivors 7. Cult of the Lamb 8. Stray 9. TMNT Shredder's Revenge 10. Prodeus Additional thoughts: Horizon is a technical marvel, but overall pretty boring. Sifu is certainly unique, but TMNT is a better brawler. And this crew is sleeping on Rogue Legacy 2 and Citizen Sleeper (Greg and Janet would love this game).
Kinda Funny slowly becoming a From Software company is perfect. As someone who turned into a FromSoft person in 2022 I need to say this: TIM GETTYS. PLAY SEKIRO. YOU'LL LOVE IT. IT'S LITERALLY SIFU.
@43:35 Greg says Immortality is on Netflix... is that true?? And how the hell did I miss this news? I already played it off XGP, but still super cool to hear! If it is on Netflix that would make it even easier to recommend to friends and family!
If you have Netflix they offer many games for ‘free’ on Mobile/Tablet including Immortality, Into the Breach, TMNT shredders revenge, Kentucky route zero, oxenfeee and many more. They are just really bad at advertising this for some reason.
Personal top 10: - Elden Ring - Olli Olli World - High on Life - Immortality - Shredders - As Dusk Falls - Marvel Snap - WindJammers 2 - Scorn - Grounded 1.0
Meaning you can tell I’ve not gotten ahold of a PS5 yet? Yeah it’s pretty obvious. But holy crap I dug all the games I played via GamePass this year. No joke it was such a unique and diverse year for games. Plus ya know 200+ hours in elden ring
The top ten should be the other way on the desk. Seems counter intuitive but it makes the crazy brain feel more satisfied to see it filled it that way, it gives more importance to the the things on the left that your brain knows is missing. This way you're just filling a clip. The other way feels like you're getting to the surface from a deep that starts at the end on the right .
Yuuussss love the katana zero shout-out!!!! Yeah would love a sequel. Limited run games was supposed to make a physical copy. That was announced like over 2 years ago tho still no update
Kinda obvious GOTY. It was already clear at the start of the year it was going to be a battle between ER en GOW R. ER is gonna win pretty much everywhere because of its industry impact and the masterpiece it is. The impact GOW 2018 had. GOW R is going to be just behind it because it has the 'more of the same' sentiment. On the other hand GOW R is going to clean up at Kinda Funny, just because a few people dont even play From games AT ALL. Im actually surprised ER was able to beat Sifu. Anyway, amazing show and congratz on the production value. This was truly awesome
Thank god for Janet. Both here and on MinnMax she represented Horizon with a ferocity I can be proud of. This game just did not get the praise it deserves. Everyone is so obsessed with "did it reinvent the wheel? No?" *cue Andy Toy Story meme*. Why does Horizon have to be the most groundbreaking game to be praised? Forbidden West is just the best version of Horizon we have gotten. If you like Horizon and what that game is, then I cannot understand why you would not love every second of this game. Horizon Forbidden West is a better game in every conceivable way, (except maybe the story because of the colossal revelation) and its a goddamn travesty the disrespect this game got in 2022.
In cult of the lamb, if you have the Fleece that gives you more damage for every enemy you kill. You can almost one-shot the bosses if you make it to them without getting hit from regular enemies. I found it took some time but it wasn't that hard really.
Listening to this at work and wasn't paying enough attention, so hearing Andy telling someone to touch his stool and complaining his arse will be sore all week had me very confused.
I'm not sure Dying Light 2 would make my top ten, but it would be close with the hundred plus hours I spent in there. Weak ending aside, it's mind-blowing there was no mention of it. It makes me think they should've delayed it further after they moved away from their 2021 release target. That team deserves their flowers for a great gameplay loop, interesting world, and best implementation of optimized RT in 2022.
Games are wild cause I couldn't disagree more with Tim about Kirby. I finished that game and thought to myself "great game, but I'll literally never think about it again lol"
Loved this! Andy and Barrett killed it! So awesome having Janet and Parris there, such a great time!

Horizon is the most underrated franchise of all time
It's up there lowkey but the funny thing is the scores aren't underrated, just how folks talk about it.
Couldn’t agree more. First half was pretty surprising to me. Top two were THE choices, imo. Still need to get to Sifu. I keep remembering the original review and not being fully bought in, but to think I need to take the dip.
I hope some day they have someone that likes and plays JRPGs, 2022 was a great year for JRPGs
Where is Xenoblade Chronicles 3? 😢
I loved this episode, opened my eyes to so many great games and convinced me that I need to give Elden Ring another try...
Hope Kinda Funny’s year goes well 👍
Random but I appreciate how diverse Kinda Funny is.
Agreed for Marvel's midnight suns over snap.
Great show guys! Lots of games to check out for me
Proud of you gang 💙
Very excite !
Kinda Funny has been crossing the line between their opinions of games with PR with actors and devs of games. Why is the lead of the game ready on queue to walk out on set for a bit? First Callisto, now this. You really need to think about your actions and how they look to people watching.
It is weird isn’t it, that’s why it’s good to have a different body away from the industry and impartial
Great list!
Barrett once again showing he has the best taste in video games by putting Pentiment at number 4. Genuinely can't believe not a single other person voted for it. Honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had playing a video game.
Maybe if it was on PlayStation.
Parris saying Garlic is a crutch in Vampire Survivors really hurt my soul...
One of my favorite episodes of the year. Awesome to see everyone together!
Here's my personal list:
1. Elden Ring
2. Rogue Legacy 2
3. God of War Ragnarök
4. Tunic
5. Citizen Sleeper
6. Vampire Survivors
7. Cult of the Lamb
8. Stray
9. TMNT Shredder's Revenge
10. Prodeus
Additional thoughts: Horizon is a technical marvel, but overall pretty boring.
He did play it, months ago. It’s clearly not for him and that’s okay.
Mike out here with that Fox News posture and vibe lmao
Great Video, especially since the Ratchet and Clank debacle from last year. Elden Ring is easily #1 for mine but great to hear everyone's views.
You guys should do a top 15 for 2023 since it’s so stacked.
Great job KF crew! Sorry some of the chat aren’t very cool
Incredible show
i'm an hour and twenty-four minutes in and Mike still hasn't said a word... OH! There he goes!
@43:35
Greg says Immortality is on Netflix... is that true??
And how the hell did I miss this news?
I already played it off XGP, but still super cool to hear! If it is on Netflix that would make it even easier to recommend to friends and family!
Netflix mobile. No on the TV. Netflix have a bunch of mobile games
If you have Netflix they offer many games for ‘free’ on Mobile/Tablet including Immortality, Into the Breach, TMNT shredders revenge, Kentucky route zero, oxenfeee and many more. They are just really bad at advertising this for some reason.
Personal top 10:
- Elden Ring
- Olli Olli World
- High on Life
- Immortality
- Shredders
- As Dusk Falls
- Marvel Snap
- WindJammers 2
- Scorn
- Grounded 1.0
Scorn and grounded lol. I see where this is going
I WANNA KNOW HOW HIGH MIKE HAD HIS CHAIR UP LMAO 🤣
Scrolling the comments to see if anyone mentioned Parris’ Aloy pronunciation 😂(love ya Parris)
Haha I did notice that at the time but I'm like eh it's close enough. Not worth "correcting" to break up the flow of the convo.
Great show guys!
Thanks!
@@TheAndyCortez Thank you guys for making awesome content and building a cool community
This was so great
Yuuussss love the katana zero shout-out!!!! Yeah would love a sequel. Limited run games was supposed to make a physical copy. That was announced like over 2 years ago tho still no update
I think they are waiting for the dlc which still hasn't come
not enough love for plague tale requiem
great podcast
Horizon forbidden west is my favorite game
Kinda obvious GOTY. It was already clear at the start of the year it was going to be a battle between ER en GOW R. ER is gonna win pretty much everywhere because of its industry impact and the masterpiece it is. The impact GOW 2018 had. GOW R is going to be just behind it because it has the 'more of the same' sentiment. On the other hand GOW R is going to clean up at Kinda Funny, just because a few people dont even play From games AT ALL. Im actually surprised ER was able to beat Sifu.
Anyway, amazing show and congratz on the production value. This was truly awesome
Stray was my favorite of the year
Thank god for Janet.
Did Tim ever try to play Elden ring?
lol
Listening to this at work and wasn't paying enough attention, so hearing Andy telling someone to touch his stool and complaining his arse will be sore all week had me very confused.
Just a few minutes in an already excited, buy Andy and Mike need to drop those seats lol
i was sitting on a barstool because we ran out of chairs. my tailbone is in pain.
Mike is out here lookin like a year one greg miller.
KF Ooozes DE&I. Love it 🙌🏾
I'm not sure Dying Light 2 would make my top ten, but it would be close with the hundred plus hours I spent in there. Weak ending aside, it's mind-blowing there was no mention of it. It makes me think they should've delayed it further after they moved away from their 2021 release target. That team deserves their flowers for a great gameplay loop, interesting world, and best implementation of optimized RT in 2022.
Feels like nobody liked Dying Light 2 as much as the first one
Games are wild cause I couldn't disagree more with Tim about Kirby. I finished that game and thought to myself "great game, but I'll literally never think about it again lol"
Great list, GoWR was my personal GOTY, it was a good time listening to everyone and the new set and production is 👌🔥
