uestion A block of mass m = 1 kg hangs by means of a string which goes over a pulley of mass M = 4m and moment of inertia I=1/4 MR2, as shown in the diagram. The string does not slip relative to the pulley. If the force constant of the spring K = 900 N/m, then find the angular frequency of small oscillations (in rad/s).

I am yakeen 2023 student.. Seeing sir like this and now. .. This is called success... Thank you soo much sir.. Because of you only I can do physics now.. 🥺.. Thanks a loot sir🙏🙏
Sir, this is a quick shot technique applicable to a single mass oscillating when attached to a single spring. That is why all springs are converted to one spring by finding equivalent spring constant. Now for the multi pulleys ,translating as well as rotating should we take their translational as well as rotational mass. You have done this in one problem but what about others where you took only rotational mass and not their translational mass while the particular pulled is in both motions. Kindly comment Overall enjoyable video 🥰
The trick is ok for ideal pulleys, strings and springs and single block oscillating. But in case of massive pulley, especially when it is participating in oscillation, then it's rolling mass is involved which is translational mass M plus rotational mass ,I/R² and then the trick of evaluating effective spring constant will go bonkers. The solution is then extremely difficult...students take care !
Agreed.. In majority of questions.. we are having massless pulley. For massive pulley a minor change of I/r^2 gives wonders..😀. Otherwise we have conventional method 😊.
Sir i like your videos. Keep up the good work. The case i had in mind was when another mass is attached to the pulley having mass via another spring. Then the trick will not work and the solution to be tried using the conceptual force or energy method may lead to the result involving mathematical complexity. Anyway that should not be at the JEE level. Regards !
