Just to clarify the “Hibachi theme”, it’s not because Arenas loves to eat there. It is his nickname because he’s cooking players in front of everybody…just like at Hibachi. A lil extra info: one of his teammates actually said that on the bench about an opposing playing who was cooking their team at the time. Gilbert loved it and ran with it.
Gil is ,not even low key, the most black air force 1 energy guy who was in the NBA. Dude be hustling orgs with fat contracts and pulling gats in the locker room and shit.

I had the team USA colorway, very stable shoe specially on the mid to forefoot. Slight heel slip and cushioning is very firm, that’s why I wore them mostly casually. Came out in tons of colorway, Arenas at that time was very popular because he was one of the few player that can score on anyone. Even went toe to toe with a Kobe. Funny person also.
Still have my Wizards Arenas jersey. Agent Zero was a truly inspirational story at the time. From Zero to Hero 🔥
Adidas needs to restomod the EQT Top Ten 2010. The “feet you wear” tech was awesome
As Gilbert Arenas claims himself these started the low top basketball shoes era… true or not they were indeed one of the first low cuts out there, even though the impact is probably less than the Kobe 4
It was nash and arenas who started doing it regularly in the mid 2000s, but it didnt become cool and trendy until Kobe did it.

I had these when they came out in 2006. THEY ROCK!! I'm a post player (PF) & they were perfect with support. That outrigger was the TRUTH!! They are my all-time 2nd favorite hoops shoe.(Jordan 9). They really solidified Adidas as my choice BB shoe. FYI, I'm 50 so I've hooped in PLENTY of kicks.
Man I think you’re going to get a kick out of these because I’ve been wearing them for the last week nervously after watching this video and I can tell you that these absolutely hold their own and go toe to toe with anything else on the court.
Gilbert Arenas was a character. His home in Orlando had a full on shark tank. He also bought a crap ton of fireworks every year and put on a huge show for all the kids in his neighborhood.
Thansk for the great insights. Just bagged them and wore them 3x this past week. BEST KICKS IVE EVER WORN. After your review I was nervous cause I didn’t think they would be high performance. A few notes, when I first put them on they felt really comfortable in multiple but after I ran I started to feel the low top collar digging into my ankle. However after the second and third time that seem to resolve itself and it molds a lot better to my ankle. i’m a high motor slash and dash guard so I put a lot of stress on lateral movements and I can tell you that I’ve never felt so comfortable and quick on my feet and a pair of shoes. I’m seriously gonna buy a second and third pair just so I can have some in my stock. I usually burn through two pairs a year and I want to keep these on my feet for a while.
Yea I had the same ankle pain but looks like they resolved themselves.
As a wizards fan (I know they suck but it’s the hometown team) I love that they are giving these a retro

my dad gave me the home wizards pair for my bday back in 2006 and that was the first time i enjoyed playing in a low top. i wore that until the outsole fell off after 4 years. i also had the tmac 6 black lows with the same formotion outsole tech. i loved them both until they broke in 2010 to 2011. glad they brought this one back. will wait for the home cw to bring memories back. lol

Nice, one of my weird favorite shoes. Always thought its aesthetics were waaaay underrated. Even though kicksology (I know, I'm old) gave it a low score, it's been a grail of mine since I was a broke student!
Cool video, yeah, these were rumored to release months ago, and nothing happened. I had the USA and UNDRCRWN colorways back in 2006, they were a nice shoe to walk around in, and they were decent to play in. I loved the midfoot stability on the original, I hope that the new one has that. Thanks for another entertaining video and for letting people know where these can be found.
I had two pairs (different colorways) as a kid and I wore them until they fell apart! One of my favorite shoes I’ve owned for sure🔥

Hi Chris, I owned these back in 06 these were indeed the first low top signature shoe ever released. Also I remember the marketing, the three stripes were out there because Gilbert ran on the lateral side of his feet apparently.
Loved the mids back in the day. One of my favorite shoes to hoop in outdoors.

I'm hoping for a huge release by Adidas. Bring them to Europe! As for the question, I think Delly 1 by Peak Sports was low.
They also did a series of 30+ colorways including the Gil 2 as well. It was insane.
It’s Hibachi because he would heat up like one. Puma Clyde’s were the first lows. Also, Gil loved to wear the low shell toe adidas when playing. The traction from what I can remember is amazing.
Gil was the 1st to have a signature shoe that was low .. but Steve nash around tht time was another player I can remember who notoriously wore lows but wasn’t a signature .. he was Nike guy

These remind me of the tmac 6s I believe. Those were my favorite to hoop in back in the day. I would love a restomod and more of the 5s

Tmac 6 Formotion worked well for me. Great ball shoes back in the day. Hope they restomod those next, and also the Adidas Chauncey Billups. Love that shoe

I remember the Adidas "It takes 5" campaign with the GilZero, Billups, Tmac, Duncan and Garnet shoes. Thought they were really dope. I think I was hooping in the Adidas Game Day Lightning around the time that these were released 🤣
Gil christened his right arm the hibachi, because once he started getting hot those defenders were gettin cooked. It became his nickname, and he even had a celebration, kinda like Darius Miles and Q. Rich when the "knuckle head" move. He'd hit a shot, and turn his piping hot palms up as if he was grilling food in them. That guy was a character.

i remember these had 3 formotion pods and the t mac 6’s which were the top tier adidas sig had 6 formotion pods. the idea for basketball was during lateral movements it would keep you in contact with the ground
I got the 61pts color way and they super comfortable! I don’t ball wit them I use them to just chill. I copped this color way recently. Very comfortable and I’m a big guy
I still have my original white/navy pair of these in mid top form. I don't remember how they played because I was a dumb highschooler who would hoop in anything.. but Gil was The Man for like 2 seasons.

Still have my OG pair of the Wht/Blu/Red CW, loved these. One of my all time fave Adidas shoes 4 ballin! I also have the mids in mint condition but they weren't called the Gills. I have the Bulls cw which Nocioni wore during his Bulls era.
Adidas is a lot more open to starting off their signature lines with lows. The Dame, Harden, Trae, and Donovan Mitchel's lines all debut in lows.

I was going to mention Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's Adidas but I think when Adidas gave him his signature it was a high top even though at the time he mainly played in Low's
Was the Harden Vol 1 a low?
Generaly speaking, in the 70s, half of the players were wearing high top and the others low top. In the 80s, high top and ultra high top (think about the moon boots of Magic in 88) except for a very few players in low top (Pippen, Drexler and Chambers). In the 90s and mid 90s, most of the shoes like the Barkley, Air Flight and Penny line were mid Top

Yeah this model started the multiple colorway. Too bad he got injured that year so the pairs couldn’t take off marketing and sales wise.. I think he had the 1st low top signature.

I got these from Burlington tonight for 34.99 but the orange blue and black color I needed a cross trainer with a hard bottom for the gym I think these will work perfect for weight training and CrossFit style training

Arenas wore lows even as early as his Arizona days (not sure about high school). He would even wear Nike running shoes before he signed with Adidas, like Thabo Sefolosha (came after Arenas).
