Actually its the improvement that Hyundai did for Kia. It was Hyundai who bought Kia and saved them from sinking, it was Hyundai who paid Albert Biermann loads of money to lure him away from BMW. It was Hyundai who also paid loads of money to lure away Peter Schreyer from Audi.
Certainly performance as demonstrated in this video. Design? They have improved but don’t compete with Audi imho. I don’t like the upturned tail on the EV6… but admittedly it’s subjective! Confession: RS6 Performance owner
@Reno Pro definitely 10-15 years. Look at the 09-10 Sonata/Optima vs the 11 Sonata/Optima. Same comparison for the Tucson/Sportage, and a lot of other models. Big difference.
Damn... I just got my Ioniq5 a few months ago and I absolutely love everything about the car, a lot of people here in the US ask me about the car at the traffic light but man when I see the EV6 GT I feel like I need to trade in for it!

Real world reliability will be a key test. So far Kia and Hyundai have not stepped up to Mazda, Toyota, Honda or even Subaru level. Check reliability on Consumer Reports.
@@ktim6161 but Kia have 7 years (25.000 km/15.000 miles pr year) of warranty. So most people don't have to worry. But look at JP's quality report for the past 8 years and Kia and Hyundai are actually in the top. Many times over Toyota.
I don't know why people always compare reliability to Japanese cars and performance to German cars. At this rate, you have to overwhelm both sides to be recognized. But... it's already happening, so don't worry. In terms of quality, it is already the top level in JD Power, and only for N brand and electric cars, the performance is already close to German cars.

I don’t get why everyone in the industry is so hung up on powered seats. Regular seats are faster to position and cheaper/easier to fix. How is that a bad thing?
Good job cause I think the battery will be F**ked after 7 years. Kia will no doubt have a get out clause in the small print preventing a total battery replacement. I'll stick to my leasure car a TVR , sounds much better. Then again the Kia has no sound at all !!. BORING !!!.

I actually traded my E85 Audi RS3 for the EV6 GT. On paper the RS3 was faster with the tune/bolt on goodies but the EV6 brings so much heat without ANY of the fuss. One thing people don't often consider as well is that the EV6 is a compact SUV, whereas the RS3 is a subcompact sedan. Remove the drivetrain and the EV6 is SO MUCH roomier. All around a better car for a daily driver.
This channel is probably sponsored by Kia. I ran half a dozen times 11.7s and 11.8s and trapped 117-118 mph on my RS3 bone stock with just 2 galons of E-85, I did so at 3100 ft elevation. Seeing a new RS3 running 12.8@109.8 mph is seems ridiculous when most of the car magazines can get a 3.3 to 3.5 sec 0-60 out of the Audi and run in the 12.0 flat. Motorweek had the RS3 last week and it ran 3.3 sec 0-60 and 12.2@116 mph on their TV channel. You can also find it here on UA-cam. I give credit to the Kia but that RS3 is not representing what this car really is.. I have two RS3s by the way...

We've tested the RS3 on several occasions and the fastest we've managed is 0-60 in 3.7sec and 1/4 mile in 12.2sec. That's using our own professional Racelogic timing gear; Audi's in-built timer is more optimistic, but we never take readings from the car itself.
the launch control of the rs3 was not active, you can hear that from the revs that are different when it is. the kia would also win the 1/4 mile but way much closer… but thats bad marketing right? 😉
12.8 for the RS3 is not a good time. Others tend to hover just above 12 and occasionally have done it under 12 ….. a time of 12.8 is Golf R or S3 territory
Test times like this are dependant on how grippy the surface is - is this case, both were on the same track, so if it's slippy for the RS3 then it also is for the EV6. Pointless comparing times done on a different day, conditions, temperature and location.

I really like the Kia, in the normal Gt though and would have seriously considered the car if only the infrastructure was better here in Cumbria. RS3 - Launch control wasn’t properly engaged first time, second no boost built in launch control, ie floored the gas and let go of the break almost sequentially. Would be great to see it launched proper, for a more realistic comparison. Regardless of conditions, or DA/altitude the 2022 RS3 is a 3.2-3.4 0-60 every time.
How is it not realistic though? When do you actually engage launch control? On a red light? I don't think so. The EV6 on the other hand can just be floored and hell brakes loose. In a real world scenario the difference between both would be even bigger.
@@dasunikat1534 Launch control in Audis, requires you to have traction off in the car and to be in sport mode, which is how most people drive RS models. So yes in the real world there are a lot of people that use launch control all the time, not just on the track. And this video is comparing them at a dragstrip. The RS three is capable of low three seconds with just about anybody driving it correctly. Point being in this video they are comparing one car to another, and not comparing the full capability of one of the cars that’s being compared. That’s all

People who buy the RS model are buying them because they light to drive FAST. Otherwise they would get a 7 series, or S series……I seriously doubt Less then 50% of that 90% are granting around, despite it being their daily. That’s similar to saying that the 911 turbo S, which has sold the most cars in the last two years than any of the years prior, and can also be daily driven, is being bought by people who are conservatively driving them around in traffic…..I don’t think so.

I know the industry is trying to prop up electric vehicles and their instant torque & straight-line performance, but I recommend putting the RS 3 in RS Performance mode and launching as mentioned from there (Dynamic mode isn't the same). You'll actually get numbers better than the new S3's numbers you posted in this video & better than Audi's typically underrated performance figures - thanks!
The thing is - everybody is doing below the claimed 3,8 sec to 60 mph and you're doing 4,0 in RS3 and below 12,00 for the 1/4 mile. Please switch the cars next time between the drivers, maybe you'll get the serious result.
All I see is a great addition to what is already a fantastic EV, as always the video quality and info was top notch... Great Review! RE the manual seats I wonder if that will be for production or whether that is just because the car is a prototype.
Shame they didn't make the rims face the same direction on both sides, sure it may cost more to have two production lines for rims but come on it must be worth it.
Bad driving / launch. The Audi has a slight delay from the driver getting off the pedal so you have to anticipate the go and release early. Rs3 runs high 11s stock.
@@MTKOZ yip, well aware of that. My stock 8P does a 12.9, 12.8 1/4 mile. Time is calculated when the car is in motion. Leaving the line 1 second late due to delayed launch shouldn't affect 1/4 mile time.

the seats arent electric because they are taken straight out of the veloster and elantra N and those cars strive for low weight so you don't want things like that

@@electricviking Yes next class up and 200mm longer but that's only one factor in pricing. It certainly feels bigger to drive because it weighs a lot but certainly isn't as roomy or has a boot like my Kodiaq VRS even though it's about the same size outside. It doesn't drive or handle as well as the Skoda either. This comparison involves both these cars which is why I commented on comparable pricing.

Won't matter. I have an EV6 GT Line. 0-60 is 4.5 or 4.6 every time. The faster GT will be in low 3's. The Audi is a dinosaur and the Kia is a family car! When we get true EV sports cars, ICE will be done.
rs3 do 12.0 1/4 miles , you can see this on carwow . you know the time for rs3 before the run , if you don t make these time , do something....if the road is dusty , why you don t change the line for the second run..
Curious to see what the cost increase will be in the USA. Direct conversion puts it in no man's land for this class so I presume there's more to it than just equating £ to $. . . The GT-line eAWD before your choice of paint color sells at $57,490 or so.... If they can with the GT, given its pull back of other features like electronic seat controls and the fact that the GT sees zero range increase/battery size gains over lesser trims, make the price increase somewhere 'round $5-8K much like the difference between a Kia Stinger GT-line and a Stinger GT used to be (before they discontinued all of the GT trims aside from the Mac Daddy GT2), then I would heavily consider trading up and losing some features for the power and position of the GT in the lineup. . . But if we direct convert £62,000 and end up with a $75,000 EV6... that couldn't fly here I would reckon.
Not likely a stock RS3 would have won that race, but there was something very off about that run with the Audi. MPH alone shows it's down on power, not even factoring in the ET or launch. Not sure what the DA or elevation was at that location, things that would only affect the Audi and not the EV6. The EV6 seems like a great car for the money, but if quickness is your bag, RS3 is still going to come out on top with just a $1000 investment in an E85 tune and TCU tune, maybe better tires, you're already in the 10's for still less money, and similar range.
Agreed there is something off. I've seen the Audi do a faster 1/4 mile on other channels but usually at 12 seconds and on good days I've seen 11.9 seconds

The Mach e gt will lose Big times in a drag. Se the video Tesla Bjørn just did. It have issues with loosing performance after a 4-5 sec full pull. If you wait a short time and try again, the performance is Down with 30-50%
This will destroy the Mach E, a model Y long range with acceleration boost is faster than a Mach e GT in the 1/4 mile, i regular model 3 LR (not even adding acceleration boost is faster too, never mind the performance ones and this will be close to a model 3 performance in speed. No contest
Great review! Why so much power? Electric sounds great but 2.2 tonnes versus say 1.8 tonnes for the equivalent petrol car means we are digging up 0.4 tonnes of extra materials from the earth; how is that more green?
When you have filled up your ICE car around 12 - 13 times, you have used approximately 0,4 tons of fossil fuel… and we are pumping up oil from the earth to make gasoline/diesel. Of course the electricity to power an EV has to come from somewhere, and it has a huge saying whether it’s from renewable energy, fossil fuels or a combination. Actually there are made a lot of reports on the matter, and they are pretty easy to find. 😊
Because it moves that weight with a far smaller carbon footprint overall. And if you charge your car off home solar, as many of are now doing, it's a no brainer. I gave the EV6 GT Line. Coming off 4 Mercedes in a row, I took a chance on the Kia and I like it better than my other cars. Instant torque and no gas stations is amazing!
Completely agree. Pointless performance in a family vehicle particularly given the mass. As was said, fine if you want to out drag everything but otherwise it struggles to cope with the power so not satisfying or fun. The lower carbon footprint comment needs clarifying as Volvo’s report suggested that you will need to have covered at least 50k miles in an EV for it to have a lower footprint than an ICE and this could rise if the electricity sources get dirtier as a result of the conflict.
@@nickg3999 My fast EV is the safest road car I've owned, and I've had AMG's and Hellcats. The fact is simple. That power combined with instant toque means the EV can scramble out of trouble faster than ICE cars and the lower center of gravity makes highway maneuvers in emergency situations more stable. Instant torque and power delivery is what makes EV's superior, not just the outright speed. No, the "suggested" carbon nonsense is just that. The actual equalization point is closer to 5K to 10K miles, at which point the ICE car pollutes with a much larger carbon footprint. And with many of us using Solar for our homes and cars, the EV becomes even cleaner. Right now, my EV is saving me close to $550 per month. Now factor in no oil changes, no transmission issues, no brake replacements (due to regenerative braking). I own a EV and I have solar. Folks pushing anti-science on this tech are clearly motivated by politics rather than math. EV's are selling like crazy because they're superior. In two years they've gone from less than 1% to almost 10% of auto sales. And I'm a muscle car guy who also loves AMG's and Vette's and Jeeps and pretty much anything with wheels! There's no ignoring that EV's are superior. Owning one even made my wife a fan.
Did you really say $15 K #'s more for the GT ? Its 2023 now and here in the USA I found a dealer willing to sell one about $2500 more than the GT-line. Makes it real tempting but I need to see what kind of daily driver it is. My recent test of the Ionic 5 did not leave me wanting to sell my 2022 Santa Cruz with turbo and I never could get comfortable in the seats.
Finally got my test drive of the GT and I really liked it. I found the ride quality surprisingly good with other reviewers suggesting that it is better than the lower trims. The power is actually quite usable and I would consider using GT mode even in traffic where you have to change lanes quickly. I have driven 8 EV's now and I can't see what other performance EV would be better for me at this price point.
You didn't hold down the the traction control long enough-as in "trac off" displayed. The Audi would have easily stayed side by side if not took took it. Good race though 👌🏻
Sales for both Kia and Hyundai have surged recently with the refreshes. The global shortages from covid are not helping the cause out at all but its great to see these cars.

Anyway, the limits of electric cars are clear. The weight and mileage of the battery are trade-off. The same goes for motor performance and heat management. So hydrogen hybrid NVision 74 of Hyundai is the future of racing sports, and the current Hyundai and Kia electric cars are only their testbeds. Nevertheless, the price and performance are superior :)
I don't know the answer to this for What Car but do they quote dry weight with no fluids including fuel? A great deal is said about EV weight but I am assuming when you charge an EV it doesn't increase in weight? However if you fill up that RS3 then it will add possibly up to 100kg? Wouldn't it be fairer to compare weights and performance with an EV fully charged and an ICE with a full tank of fuel. Just a thought 🙂
@@Classics-dm6lg Oil is lighter than water (the specific gravity is around 0.7 - 0.8) and the fuel tank in an RS3 is 55L. That means that the weight of a full tank is going to be around 40-45kg.
0-100 is only one aspect of driving, but most motoring journalists can’t put in decent lap times, so straight acceleration from a standing start has become the performance test for all cars. Different story around a track where heavy electric cars don’t do so well. Big deal, accelerates faster. Can’t brake or handle as well as an RS3 but whatever make the average non driver feel good about their car.
I wondered who would be first to review the GT, well done Whatcar. A little disappointed that the actual 0_60 was exactly as Kia stated, yet the GT line is quicker than Kia states, I had expected just over 3 seconds. £62k blimey. @@XzzVttll No, they have reviewed the GT-Line (325hp) and not the GT (585hp). All test videos of the GT was embargoed until yesterday (1/8 - 22). An EV6 GT-line doesn’t go from 0 - 60 in 3,3 seconds, but it has been measured to 4,8 instead of the claimed 5,2. The EV6 GT is a different car to the GT-Line, as it is up with 260hp, adaptive suspension, e-lsd and other bits and bobs. Yeah, “Petrol Ped” kind of needs an explanation! 🤣 😊
I'm flummoxed by the manual seat controls.. at that price point it makes zero sense. The EV6 line is just gorgeous when I see them on the road. I really like them!
I thought the manual steering wheel adjustment and lack of frunk botton on the fob of the Mach GT Performance Edition was bad considering the price. This is worse. Its actaully a deal breaker.
Kia wanted the seats to be lower so the driver would be closer to the CG of the car. Since the electric motors for seat adjustment take up space, they had to go.

Other reviews it did not beat the RS3. I'd bet the car here was on Pirellis. Got Michelin PS4 on my RS3, yet to have one of these ugly milk floats get past me.
The rapid acceleration is all the excitement these cars have to offer! So thats why its always shown doing drag races. Ev's is like having sex whilst wearing ear plugs and boxing gloves. Just not getting the full satisfaction!
EV’s evolves like other cars… and maybe you should spend a little time watching some of the many videos of the journalists and UA-camrs driving the EV6 GT on a narrow track in Sweden! - Judging by their grinning and giggling, they don’t seem to be bored. 😊

@@GARRYEASTON Different cars for different purposes. A lot of people enjoy EVs more than ICE cars because they are… tadaaa… EVs! They like the silence and fast acceleration, because that is what they need in 99% of their daily driving. So no, rapid acceleration is not the only thing EVs has to offer in terms of excitement and happiness regarding ownership. They are showing drag races and mid acceleration tests against other cars, because that is what most people are interested in, because most people will never end up on a race track or a particularly twisty road “competing” other cars…. but they will accelerate from a standstill and overtake other cars on highways, freeways and country roads. 😊
I'm coming off a Mercedes AMG Cabriolet and a Hellcat. My Ev6 is NOT a sports car, but the GT version will be moving in that direction. True EV sports cars will demolish all ICE cars when they come to market. Once you experience the amazing instant torque of a fast EV, it's pretty hard to go backwards to ICE. And I only wish my Mercedes was as tightly built as the kia.
New interest in electric cars so please forgive my lack of knowledge ...263 mile range? So then how long to fully charge? Are EV'S more commuter type as opposed to cross country traveling?
Assuming you found a fast enough charger, you'd be charging for 20 minutes. A less powerful charger might see you charging for 30 to 40 minutes. That said, you'd be ready for a break after driving for 200+ miles anyway..... EV's can cope with long trips. There are lots of UA-cam videos posted by long distance EV'ers.
10 years from now, the EV6 will still be performing flawlessly. The Audi on the other hand will be in the scrap heap, needing a new water pump, timing belt, and a few hundred other things, all that cost $4,000 or more 'each' to replace, and only at an Audi dealer, because it requires special tools.
10years ? From current battery tech. Highly unlikely. Also as an electrician I can tell you that motors etc do wear out and replacing them will not be cheap :)
The technology of Hyundai and KIA are leading the market in the consumer sector. They are second to none. Make Toyotas and Fords feel like they’re a decade behind
I have the Stinger GT 3.3TT do love the sound of the RS3 but love My Stinger. All in all they are nice cars and that is what we need to think about at the end of the day not Kia not Audi or BMW they are all nice cars.
I own one, yes it does. As does the tyres. RS3 comes with Bridgetones or P Zero, both not great. Put Michelin PS4 on mine. 0-60 now 3.6s. I've met a few of these Kia's on the road, none could stay with me. Typical EV, one trick pony.
God that thing is super fugly, bordering on the hideous actually. The RS3 would run rings around as soon as a bend appeared and the guy driving that RS3 is doing a crap job of launching it. £60k for an ugly Kia? Who'd buy one over say an Audi, BMW or Merc - no one sane that's for sure.
Hello, insane person here! 👋🥳👋 😊 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I will not argue about the looks of the EV6. However, if you watch some of the many videos from the press launch in Stockholm, it is pretty clear that even though KIA again and again points out, that the EV6 GT is a Gran Tourer, and not made for the track, all of the journalist’s and UA-camrs are having a blast around the narrow track they are visiting… and that the car is much more capable than almost anyone anticipated. So yes, of course the RS3 will most likely be faster on a track and around tight corners… but don’t be too certain that it will actually run circles around the EV6 as soon as the road bends. I reckon that on roads where most people spend the majority of their driving, the EV6 GT will easily match the RS3 in pace and speed. Maybe the launch of the RS3 wasn’t the best, but the best launch in the RS3 is still not enough to beat the best launch in the GT, because - as far as I’m aware - the best 0 - 60 time I have seen with a RS is 3,7 and with the GT it’s 3,3. In my country a RS3 is almost twice the money of a EV6 GT… so why on earth - even if they were priced similarly - should I by a smaller, less reliable (with only 2 years warranty compared to the 7 years at KIA) and slower car… especially when I’m in the market for an EV??? I’m looking for an EV and is drawn to the EV6 because it’s an EV, and because of that, I couldn’t care less about how much money an ICE AUDI is compared to the EV6… it’s to different stories. I don’t care about old fashioned thinking about brands! - I want to buy the best car for my needs at any given time, regardless of how the brand is placed in the hierarchy! So yes… I’m insane… because I ordered a KIA EV6 GT more than a year ago… and I don’t want to trade it with an AUDI RS3 (Of course it would make sense in my country because it’s twice the price… but then I would sell it, by the EV6 GT and keep the rest of the money! 😜) 😊
@@andersteilmann8005 isnt the EV GT just a MPV? It's the same car we see daily on the roads which is an MPV more than everything. Sure you can subsidize to manipulate the market which is whats going on, but anyone would ever in a heartbeat buy the EV for the same money as the RS3 which is what it would cost. I think the latest RS3 looks cheap especially interiorwise to prior Audis and even RS3, but compared to the Kia EV it's night and day and that's saying a lot. . But the hiarchy is there because to products really haven't been compareble and still isn't. The quality has been and still is not in the same league. Which is why this comparison is thrash, most likely paid by Kia, made make headlines and get more viewers and to stir up a cause. So yes you wanted the best car for your money and probably believes it to be true. Either that or you're just here to justify your purchase.

Even if acceleration ratings were evenly matched the Kia would still have won thanks to the instant torque of the electric powertrain. This isn't a fair competition, an electric car will always win a drag race.
Base tesla model 3 with lfp is the same weight as a base bmw 3 series it's most common conquest trade in. A fully loaded tesla model 3 lr is the same weight as an awd BMW 3 series with fuel. 🤔 A perfomance model 3 is the same weight or less as a Ford gt500 mustang loaded with fuel is. A model 3 lr is within 100# of a rwd loaded gt auto mustang with fuel. The lightning ev truck is the same weight as a ram trx is and a few hundred pounds more than a raptor is. The lucid air and tesla plaids are lighter than the s class Mercedes or maybachs. A tesla model s lr is just 100# more than a dodge charger hellcat is with fuel. A model x plaid is 800-1000# lighter than a Cadillac escalade v is and still carries 6 adults tows a similar amount and beats it in acceleration. The weights are coming down now, this isn't 2016 anymore. Also base model evs often have a lot more standard equipment which ad to the weight cost and complexity over the base ice segment model's people love to compare them falsely to. 👍🏻

The 109 MPH trap speed is the really weird one! That doesn’t add up at all! RS3 trap115mph and trap speed doesn’t usually vary too much unless it’s extremely hot.
Never understood these ICE vs EV comparisons. It’s apples and oranges.. also like most have said, the RS3 has ran a full second faster in many scenarios.. either way, if I’m shopping an EV I’m not even considering an RS3 and vice versa.

I don't know why people always compare reliability to Japanese cars and performance to German cars. At this rate, you have to overwhelm both sides to be recognized. But... it's already happening, so don't worry. In terms of quality, it is already the top level in JD Power, and only for N brand and electric cars, the performance is already close to German cars.

I don’t get why everyone in the industry is so hung up on powered seats. Regular seats are faster to position and cheaper/easier to fix. How is that a bad thing?

I actually traded my E85 Audi RS3 for the EV6 GT. On paper the RS3 was faster with the tune/bolt on goodies but the EV6 brings so much heat without ANY of the fuss. One thing people don't often consider as well is that the EV6 is a compact SUV, whereas the RS3 is a subcompact sedan. Remove the drivetrain and the EV6 is SO MUCH roomier. All around a better car for a daily driver.
This channel is probably sponsored by Kia. I ran half a dozen times 11.7s and 11.8s and trapped 117-118 mph on my RS3 bone stock with just 2 galons of E-85, I did so at 3100 ft elevation. Seeing a new RS3 running 12.8@109.8 mph is seems ridiculous when most of the car magazines can get a 3.3 to 3.5 sec 0-60 out of the Audi and run in the 12.0 flat. Motorweek had the RS3 last week and it ran 3.3 sec 0-60 and 12.2@116 mph on their TV channel. You can also find it here on UA-cam. Test times like this are dependant on how grippy the surface is - is this case, both were on the same track, so if it's slippy for the RS3 then it also is for the EV6. Pointless comparing times done on a different day, conditions, temperature and location.

RS3 - Launch control wasn’t properly engaged first time, second no boost built in launch control, ie floored the gas and let go of the break almost sequentially. Would be great to see it launched proper, for a more realistic comparison. Regardless of conditions, or DA/altitude the 2022 RS3 is a 3.2-3.4 0-60 every time.
How is it not realistic though? When do you actually engage launch control? On a red light? I don't think so. The EV6 on the other hand can just be floored and hell brakes loose. In a real world scenario the difference between both would be even bigger.
@@dasunikat1534 Launch control in Audis, requires you to have traction off in the car and to be in sport mode, which is how most people drive RS models. So yes in the real world there are a lot of people that use launch control all the time, not just on the track. And this video is comparing them at a dragstrip. The RS three is capable of low three seconds with just about anybody driving it correctly. Point being in this video they are comparing one car to another, and not comparing the full capability of one of the cars that’s being compared. That’s all

People who buy the RS model are buying them because they light to drive FAST. Otherwise they would get a 7 series, or S series……I seriously doubt Less then 50% of that 90% are granting around, despite it being their daily. That’s similar to saying that the 911 turbo S, which has sold the most cars in the last two years than any of the years prior, and can also be daily driven, is being bought by people who are conservatively driving them around in traffic…..I don’t think so.

I know the industry is trying to prop up electric vehicles and their instant torque & straight-line performance, but I recommend putting the RS 3 in RS Performance mode and launching as mentioned from there (Dynamic mode isn't the same). You'll actually get numbers better than the new S3's numbers you posted in this video & better than Audi's typically underrated performance figures - thanks!
Start putting some bolt ons and tunes when available in the RS3 to get it into the 600hp range and see how it stacks up to an EV
The thing is - everybody is doing below the claimed 3,8 sec to 60 mph and you're doing 4,0 in RS3 and below 12,00 for the 1/4 mile. Please switch the cars next time between the drivers, maybe you'll get the serious result.

Bad driving / launch. The Audi has a slight delay from the driver getting off the pedal so you have to anticipate the go and release early. Rs3 runs high 11s stock.

It certainly feels bigger to drive because it weighs a lot but certainly isn't as roomy or has a boot like my Kodiaq VRS even though it's about the same size outside. It doesn't drive or handle as well as the Skoda either.
This comparison involves both these cars which is why I commented on comparable pricing.

Won't matter. I have an EV6 GT Line. 0-60 is 4.5 or 4.6 every time. The faster GT will be in low 3's. The Audi is a dinosaur and the Kia is a family car! When we get true EV sports cars, ICE will be done.

The GT-line eAWD before your choice of paint color sells at $57,490 or so....
If they can with the GT, given its pull back of other features like electronic seat controls and the fact that the GT sees zero range increase/battery size gains over lesser trims, make the price increase somewhere 'round $5-8K much like the difference between a Kia Stinger GT-line and a Stinger GT used to be (before they discontinued all of the GT trims aside from the Mac Daddy GT2), then I would heavily consider trading up and losing some features for the power and position of the GT in the lineup. . . But if we direct convert £62,000 and end up with a $75,000 EV6... that couldn't fly here I would reckon.

Not likely a stock RS3 would have won that race, but there was something very off about that run with the Audi. MPH alone shows it's down on power, not even factoring in the ET or launch. Not sure what the DA or elevation was at that location, things that would only affect the Audi and not the EV6. The EV6 seems like a great car for the money, but if quickness is your bag, RS3 is still going to come out on top with just a $1000 investment in an E85 tune and TCU tune, maybe better tires, you're already in the 10's for still less money, and similar range.

Great review! Why so much power? Electric sounds great but 2.2 tonnes versus say 1.8 tonnes for the equivalent petrol car means we are digging up 0.4 tonnes of extra materials from the earth; how is that more green?
When you have filled up your ICE car around 12 - 13 times, you have used approximately 0,4 tons of fossil fuel… and we are pumping up oil from the earth to make gasoline/diesel.
Of course the electricity to power an EV has to come from somewhere, and it has a huge saying whether it’s from renewable energy, fossil fuels or a combination.
Actually there are made a lot of reports on the matter, and they are pretty easy to find.

Completely agree. Pointless performance in a family vehicle particularly given the mass. As was said, fine if you want to out drag everything but otherwise it struggles to cope with the power so not satisfying or fun. The lower carbon footprint comment needs clarifying as Volvo’s report suggested that you will need to have covered at least 50k miles in an EV for it to have a lower footprint than an ICE and this could rise if the electricity sources get dirtier as a result of the conflict.
@@nickg3999 My fast EV is the safest road car I've owned, and I've had AMG's and Hellcats. The fact is simple. That power combined with instant toque means the EV can scramble out of trouble faster than ICE cars and the lower center of gravity makes highway maneuvers in emergency situations more stable. Instant torque and power delivery is what makes EV's superior, not just the outright speed. No, the "suggested" carbon nonsense is just that. The actual equalization point is closer to 5K to 10K miles, at which point the ICE car pollutes with a much larger carbon footprint. And with many of us using Solar for our homes and cars, the EV becomes even cleaner. Right now, my EV is saving me close to $550 per month. Now factor in no oil changes, no transmission issues, no brake replacements (due to regenerative braking). I own a EV and I have solar. Folks pushing anti-science on this tech are clearly motivated by politics rather than math. EV's are selling like crazy because they're superior. In two years they've gone from less than 1% to almost 10% of auto sales. And I'm a muscle car guy who also loves AMG's and Vette's and Jeeps and pretty much anything with wheels! There's no ignoring that EV's are superior. Owning one even made my wife a fan.

Did you really say $15 K #'s more for the GT ? Its 2023 now and here in the USA I found a dealer willing to sell one about $2500 more than the GT-line. Makes it real tempting but I need to see what kind of daily driver it is. My recent test of the Ionic 5 did not leave me wanting to sell my 2022 Santa Cruz with turbo and I never could get comfortable in the seats.
Finally got my test drive of the GT and I really liked it. I found the ride quality surprisingly good with other reviewers suggesting that it is better than the lower trims. The power is actually quite usable and I would consider using GT mode even in traffic where you have to change lanes quickly. I have driven 8 EV's now and I can't see what other performance EV would be better for me at this price point.

Anyway, the limits of electric cars are clear. The weight and mileage of the battery are trade-off. The same goes for motor performance and heat management. So hydrogen hybrid NVision 74 of Hyundai is the future of racing sports, and the current Hyundai and Kia electric cars are only their testbeds. Nevertheless, the price and performance are superior :)
I don't know the answer to this for What Car but do they quote dry weight with no fluids including fuel? A great deal is said about EV weight but I am assuming when you charge an EV it doesn't increase in weight? However if you fill up that RS3 then it will add possibly up to 100kg? Wouldn't it be fairer to compare weights and performance with an EV fully charged and an ICE with a full tank of fuel. Just a thought 🙂

@@Classics-dm6lg Oil is lighter than water (the specific gravity is around 0.7 - 0.8) and the fuel tank in an RS3 is 55L. That means that the weight of a full tank is going to be around 40-45kg.
0-100 is only one aspect of driving, but most motoring journalists can’t put in decent lap times, so straight acceleration from a standing start has become the performance test for all cars. Different story around a track where heavy electric cars don’t do so well. Big deal, accelerates faster. Can’t brake or handle as well as an RS3 but whatever make the average non driver feel good about their car.

A little disappointed that the actual 0_60 was exactly as Kia stated, yet the GT line is quicker than Kia states, I had expected just over 3 seconds. £62k blimey. Great first GT drag race and good review. Can't believe it has got electric seats. A

All test videos of the GT was embargoed until yesterday (1/8 - 22).
An EV6 GT-line doesn’t go from 0 - 60 in 3,3 seconds, but it has been measured to 4,8 instead of the claimed 5,2.
The EV6 GT is a different car to the GT-Line, as it is up with 260hp, adaptive suspension, e-lsd and other bits and bobs.

I'm flummoxed by the manual seat controls.. at that price point it makes zero sense. The EV6 line is just gorgeous when I see them on the road. I really like them!
I thought the manual steering wheel adjustment and lack of frunk botton on the fob of the Mach GT Performance Edition was bad considering the price. This is worse. Its actaully a deal breaker.
Kia wanted the seats to be lower so the driver would be closer to the CG of the car. Since the electric motors for seat adjustment take up space, they had to go.

Other reviews it did not beat the RS3. I'd bet the car here was on Pirellis. Got Michelin PS4 on my RS3, yet to have one of these ugly milk floats get past me.

@@GARRYEASTON Different cars for different purposes. A lot of people enjoy EVs more than ICE cars because they are… tadaaa… EVs! They like the silence and fast acceleration, because that is what they need in 99% of their daily driving.
So no, rapid acceleration is not the only thing EVs has to offer in terms of excitement and happiness regarding ownership.
They are showing drag races and mid acceleration tests against other cars, because that is what most people are interested in, because most people will never end up on a race track or a particularly twisty road “competing” other cars…. but they will accelerate from a standstill and overtake other cars on highways, freeways and country roads.

I'm coming off a Mercedes AMG Cabriolet and a Hellcat. My Ev6 is NOT a sports car, but the GT version will be moving in that direction. True EV sports cars will demolish all ICE cars when they come to market. Once you experience the amazing instant torque of a fast EV, it's pretty hard to go backwards to ICE. And I only wish my Mercedes was as tightly built as the kia.
New interest in electric cars so please forgive my lack of knowledge ...263 mile range? So then how long to fully charge? Are EV'S more commuter type as opposed to cross country traveling?
Assuming you found a fast enough charger, you'd be charging for 20 minutes. A less powerful charger might see you charging for 30 to 40 minutes. That said, you'd be ready for a break after driving for 200+ miles anyway..... EV's can cope with long trips. There are lots of UA-cam videos posted by long distance EV'ers.

10 years from now, the EV6 will still be performing flawlessly. The Audi on the other hand will be in the scrap heap, needing a new water pump, timing belt, and a few hundred other things, all that cost $4,000 or more 'each' to replace, and only at an Audi dealer, because it requires special tools.
RS3 checking in. Replaced water pump and oil pan at 17k miles out of warranty.
10years ? From current battery tech. Highly unlikely. Also as an electrician I can tell you that motors etc do wear out and replacing them will not be cheap :)

I have the Stinger GT 3.3TT do love the sound of the RS3 but love My Stinger. All in all they are nice cars and that is what we need to think about at the end of the day not Kia not Audi or BMW they are all nice cars.

I own one, yes it does. As does the tyres. RS3 comes with Bridgetones or P Zero, both not great. Put Michelin PS4 on mine. 0-60 now 3.6s. I've met a few of these Kia's on the road, none could stay with me. Typical EV, one trick pony.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I will not argue about the looks of the EV6.
However, if you watch some of the many videos from the press launch in Stockholm, it is pretty clear that even though KIA again and again points out, that the EV6 GT is a Gran Tourer, and not made for the track, all of the journalist’s and UA-camrs are having a blast around the narrow track they are visiting… and that the car is much more capable than almost anyone anticipated.
So yes, of course the RS3 will most likely be faster on a track and around tight corners… but don’t be too certain that it will actually run circles around the EV6 as soon as the road bends.
I reckon that on roads where most people spend the majority of their driving, the EV6 GT will easily match the RS3 in pace and speed.
Maybe the launch of the RS3 wasn’t the best, but the best launch in the RS3 is still not enough to beat the best launch in the GT, because - as far as I’m aware - the best 0 - 60 time I have seen with a RS is 3,7 and with the GT it’s 3,3.
In my country a RS3 is almost twice the money of a EV6 GT… so why on earth - even if they were priced similarly - should I by a smaller, less reliable (with only 2 years warranty compared to the 7 years at KIA) and slower car… especially when I’m in the market for an EV???
I’m looking for an EV and is drawn to the EV6 because it’s an EV, and because of that, I couldn’t care less about how much money an ICE AUDI is compared to the EV6… it’s to different stories.
I don’t care about old fashioned thinking about brands! - I want to buy the best car for my needs at any given time, regardless of how the brand is placed in the hierarchy!
So yes… I’m insane… because I ordered a KIA EV6 GT more than a year ago… and I don’t want to trade it with an AUDI RS3 (Of course it would make sense in my country because it’s twice the price… but then I would sell it, by the EV6 GT and keep the rest of the money! 😜)

Sure you can subsidize to manipulate the market which is whats going on, but anyone would ever in a heartbeat buy the EV for the same money as the RS3 which is what it would cost.
I think the latest RS3 looks cheap especially interiorwise to prior Audis and even RS3, but compared to the Kia EV it's night and day and that's saying a lot. . But the hiarchy is there because to products really haven't been compareble and still isn't. The quality has been and still is not in the same league.
Which is why this comparison is thrash, most likely paid by Kia, made make headlines and get more viewers and to stir up a cause.
So yes you wanted the best car for your money and probably believes it to be true.

Even if acceleration ratings were evenly matched the Kia would still have won thanks to the instant torque of the electric powertrain. This isn't a fair competition, an electric car will always win a drag race.

Base tesla model 3 with lfp is the same weight as a base bmw 3 series it's most common conquest trade in.
A fully loaded tesla model 3 lr is the same weight as an awd BMW 3 series with fuel. 🤔
A perfomance model 3 is the same weight or less as a Ford gt500 mustang loaded with fuel is.
A model 3 lr is within 100# of a rwd loaded gt auto mustang with fuel.
The lightning ev truck is the same weight as a ram trx is and a few hundred pounds more than a raptor is.
The lucid air and tesla plaids are lighter than the s class Mercedes or maybachs.
A tesla model s lr is just 100# more than a dodge charger hellcat is with fuel.
A model x plaid is 800-1000# lighter than a Cadillac escalade v is and still carries 6 adults tows a similar amount and beats it in acceleration.
The weights are coming down now, this isn't 2016 anymore. Also base model evs often have a lot more standard equipment which ad to the weight cost and complexity over the base ice segment model's people love to compare them falsely to. 👍🏻

The 109 MPH trap speed is the really weird one! That doesn’t add up at all! RS3 trap115mph and trap speed doesn’t usually vary too much unless it’s extremely hot.
Never understood these ICE vs EV comparisons. It’s apples and oranges.. also like most have said, the RS3 has ran a full second faster in many scenarios.. either way, if I’m shopping an EV I’m not even considering an RS3 and vice versa.
