Watching someone spiral out for the first time is always rewarding.
🌀
Don’t bother reading Tool requests, just do them all lol
That’ll probably happen 😂
Very true
What is the total length of all tool's albums?....
That's a live stream event I'd watch.
@@swisstechnique5640 that….. is actually smart as fuck!!! 🤔
@stonedChakra I have my moments.
Bro... You're ready after this one! "The Holy Trinity"
Disposition - Reflection - Triad
Enjoy the ride, brother
It will come lol
Now for a different type of Tool song (though also amazing), check out "Crawl Away", "Bottom", and "Jerk Off"
Yes!! go back to the early incarnation of Tool, each of these songs are incredible…Bottom being my personal favorite
Or intolerance
To me it’s crazy to experience most songs on lateralus before exploring any songs on undertow
@@moosealoosea7878 I find most new listeners respond to undertow better if their introduction to Tool is lateralus
on the list
Dude I think you have the cleanest sound of any reactor on UA-cam
Clean and most honest
Benefits of making music before even thinking of doing reactions. I had most of the equipment needed lol
I appreciate that a shit ton!!
One of the greatest songs ever written. Also one of the most incredible feats of engineering and production. The whole Lateralus album, and 10,000 Days album have phenomenal production. Spiral out, brother. You've got to read the lyrics and then relisten to the cadence.
I love it when they find the spiral :)
The bit from 16:14 to 16:24 is THE ESSENTIAL Tool reaction. 😂
The fucking Mona Lisa of Rock Songs. 2 beers, 1 spliff this time. Let's go.
... and as for all those further suggestions: nah. You do either Eulogy or Right in Two next. Trust a brother here.
on the list and the other is already up
Yo what up Shakra?!!....it's 420 somewhere, let's all pause and take a dab....
Facts
My very favorite of all their songs. I’ve requested it at my funeral. With lyrics. Printed.
“Active listening” rare dynamic for a listener and especially reviewer. Dig that. Only way to really take in every detail and truly appreciate the artistic side with precise execution.
To the only reacter I have subscribed to needless to say we've got alot in common!
Keep doin' what you doing🤘
appreciate the fuck outta that!!!
I call the "zone outs" Tool coma!!
bring em on! lol
That slide you heard is the bass! I appreciate that your sound was loud and crisp. I know my brothers and sisters are a bit dorky on the spiral out comments (I am guilty of saying that too) but man, I love this song!
I'm guilty too. It just sums up so well what us humans need to do in this life...spiral out, keep going...
Its so good!
I think of it like aloha..a hello and a goodbye....or bless you....it says so much ...I end a lot of my comments this way.
Spiral out tool army friends :)
@@crystalscolza1663 agree!
I saw them Tour this album, in 2000 , and they were so close to album, but really fucking loud, but so tight, it was trance inducing almost.
I watched the first half in the pit, and the 2nd half I went in that back and just zoned out, they were phenomenal
The part where you were like... I feel like important information was imparted upon me but I don't remember what it was......did u forget your pen??
If you havent done Rosetta stoned yet, please do..but please do the lyrics..it is hilarious and genius all wrapped into one.
Spiral out refers to the Fibonacci Sequence and it's spiral...TOOL wrote Lateralus to the Fibonacci Sequence
tool more than any other band i can think of becomes like one pure instrument when they are playing. that's the best way i've come up with to describe what they do. they way they craft their songs is so frigging tight that when they play them sure, you can hear all four parts of it if you focus, but everything is so thoughtful and together that it's just about as close to being a solid as it gets.
You get it...that's the best part
I made a music video to this song a few years ago where all I did was video capture a sequence of a Mandelbrot Zoom and it accidentally lined up perfectly when Maynard mentions "spiral out" and the video image was also spiraling, crazy cool shit. I just never uploaded it anywhere, it's just sitting in a folder on my PC. Anyway, thanks for reacting to this bro. Peace and prosperity 🔥✌
upload that shit!!
@Zeldroid please upload it! You could be doing us all a huge disservice! Get it out of your folder and onto our screens lol
I admire everyone’s creativity, just do it! 🌀🛠👍🏻
spiral out brother!!! as long as you trying we don't hate especially when someone is so moved by the music that means so much to us. seeing the joy it brings you makes us happy in a very spiritual way. 🖤🖤🖤
Yes!
Tool will always be the GOAT.
Fear Inoculum by Tool next : D
By far your best TOOL reaction! You just enjoyed the ride and did the talking afterwards! Amazing to watch! Keep spiraling out and “you, you🤌”
I saved some talkie talk for the middle lol 😂
@@StonedChakra Yo brotha is there any possible way that you can react this song “ something to remind you” the “LIVE” version by the band STAINED?? Such a deep song and very relatable. I think everyone at one point or another has had those same emotions.
I love he said "glorious" lol. I get lost in the base too though. If sounds to be like it's the sound of the spiral. I get lost in this so much and just wow.
YES! TOOL LAND is the best. Welcome, brother. This is a fun side of reality. :)
Tool family, nice to meet you......
Back at ya!
Great reaction...it transported me fo sho...somewhere, not here...the guitar solo is legit
Coming up on a thousand man. I'm a new sub, best of luck
Welcome aboard!
I love your pure reaction in spite of having no idea the specific sequence it was constructed in. I'm sure someone has already pointed you. I just really enjoyed the pure reaction without the (well deserved) fanboyism surrounding the construction. As always, enjoyed playing along at home.
SPIRAL OUT 🌀 !!
🌀
For real man that’s how I feel when I close my eyes and give into the music. When I open them I’m like “is this real life.”
Go see them. You can feel it to your core. Their live productions are unparalleled.
i was laughing pretty hard when we were talking about dispelling expectations knowing what was coming up. laughing because this if it isn't is VERY close to my favorite song ending. and it's wild. and getting to see someone that knows what's happening when they hear something like this for the first time is FUN. i love how at the end of this song where it seems to have hit the climax is actually where it drops and the real shit starts.
This song is a mathematical genius song, its based off the fibonacci sequences and the golden ratio of life...its deeper than just lyrics...look up the breakdown of this song...it must of took them 5years to Write this song...its deep in the rabbit hole.
hey, stoned chakra.
wanna know something cool many tool fans don't know?
album lateralus' 13 tracks correlate 1-to-1 w/ the 13 chakra system
& we are meant to hear album as "reaching up" through the tracklist
(note: elevator/lift sound very beginning of album, we're going UP)
& there is another secret tracklist "reaching out" from heart chakra:
parabol/parabola, such that tracklist spirals 6,7,5,8,4,9,3,10,2,11,1,12,0,13
track 13 (or the "13th step" - name of apc album) is above triad / "crown".
it is the GODHEAD of 13-chakra system = faaip de oiad ("the voice of GOD")
BLACK
WHITE
RED
YELLOW
are intimately related to alchemical (lead-to-gold) consciousness evolution.
lateralus refers to "brain biLATERALIZation". this music is your brain on tool.
Yes sir! This song…to me is the pinnacle bro. It’s just too good…and it honestly never gets old and always as fuckjn bad-ass as the first listen As they say: spiral 🌀 out!!!
🌀
Just subscribed, my guy.
Dopeness!!
Gotta listen to the album. Next you get to watch the weather change.
This song was the first time I really felt a piece of music to be a spiritual experience, a trip. Also Berserk was fucking bonkers lol :)
Mine was Parabol/Parabola. Granted that was the like the 2nd Tool song I heard after The Pot....and after that...it's been spiraling out since then. Rosetta Stoned is the finale imo, where Tool's entire repertoire is put on display for "trained ears" to enjoy. First time I heard Rosetta Stoned, I turned it off. Didn't like it at all. Bunch of noise. But after months of listening and going through their discography, and when I landed on Rosetta Stoned after months of ignoring it... it was the best experience I've had with Tool. Takes months (if not years) to appreciate Rosetta Stoned, and Laturalus is one of the high points along that journey to get to that point.
Can't remember what they said?
You are Rosetta Stoned!
Yes.. yes I am!! Lol
Bro, I'm so glad I caught this review while on my lunch break...yes im at work, and no I can't smoke with you 😞
It’s all good. Later
You should get a SUBPAC for your chair!
I was with you until I say the price lol
Invincible next
Oh fuck yeah

17:20 - What you're mentioning... There's a quarter note 4/4 feel on the high hat (with a kick always landing on the '1' and a snare on the '2') against bass slides in 3/4 (or 6/8 depending on how you choose to process it). It is polyrhythmic, and the rhythmic dissonance creates a strong 'push and pull motion', something Tool loves to do heaps. (To conceptualize the bass rhythm, you could count the bass slides in 8th notes, as ONE two three for Four five six ONE two three Four five six).
If you count it out, the phrase is 12 quarter notes long before it repeats.
The bass is also sliding down in octaves. (in 3/4 or 6/8 form)
G G | G G | G G | G G
D C | D F | D C | D F
That's the order. Each note represents a slide down an octave.
When the bass plays G, it creates a 'suspended' interval (root, 4th and 5th). Adds a little more tension for the first few bars before the vocals come in, and then resolves to D when the vocals come in, helping everything 'mesh' together. Smart songwriting IMO.
The guitar is chugging away on a the root chord of the key, a D5 (power chord, i.e - Root, 5th, Root octave), helping to keep everything grounded harmonically.
The vocals are D F C C | D F C C | D F C C | D A D C
To make it easier to follow with the words, refer to below...
D(with) F(my) C(feet) C(up) | D(on) F(the) C(ground) C(I) | D(lose) F(my) C(self) C(be-) | D(tween) A(the) C(sounds) A(and)
The vocals are playing [in relation to the guitar chord, D5] either root notes (D), minor 3rds (F), minor 7ths(C), and when he sings an A, 5ths.
Fairly simple intervals that keep things grounded and not too out there (other than the minor 7th, a tad of spice).
Smart IMO, as there's already a somewhat complex rhythmic dissonance occuring.
If the comments section wasn't such an inelegant way of trying to notate and explain things, I'd delve further into the harmony of the vocals and the bass, but it gets a bit messy.
Essentially, it's fairly simple harmonizing. Either root notes, minor 3rds, 4ths, or 5ths.
The push and pull!!!! so 🔥🔥🔥
love it
did we partake in the lyrics of rosetta stoned by any chance? if not, please ignore me. XD remark after the six minute mark reminds me of them a little bit.
that bass...
😯🤟🤟🤟
6:00 i get you 100% its always the same with this band, and it is a realm that you font quite understand, , its unpredictable, but at the same time strangely comfortable ( a lot of the sounds are warm and pleasant) ... and before i=I proceed with any more of this reaction, I'm gonna go hit my Kyush Spliff back in 10 to complete, hahaha
Back now, great reaction love this track (and the band generally) the bass and the drummer are the power and movement of Tool, the guitar is mostly garnish, but exceptional garnish
😎🍄🤔🤙🤘
Fibonacci for the win ;-D
Should have had the music going while you were taking that toke bro
Feel the experience
I was 3-5 dabs in before this one. I was toasted 😂
This song opened my third eye 10 years ago when Tool really hit me..
The lyrics (well cyllabels) follow the Fibonacci sequence up and down:
Black (1)
then (1)
white are (2)
all I see (3)
in my infancy (5)
Red and yellow then came to be, (8)
reaching out to me (5)
Lets me see (3)
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine (13)
Drawn beyond the lines of reason (8)
Push the envelope, (5)
watch it bend (3)
And then in the next time it changes:
Black (1)
then (1)
white are (2)
all I see (3)
in my infancy (5)
Red and yellow then came to be, (8)
reaching out to me (5)
Lets me see (3)
There is so much more (And) beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities (21)
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine (13)
Drawn outside the lines of reason (8)
Push the envelope, (5)
watch it bend (3)
And the time signatures of the chorus of the song change from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8; as drummer Danny Carey says, "It was originally titled 9-8-7. For the time signatures. Then it turned out that 987 was the 16th number of the Fibonacci sequence. So that was cool."
And the "intro" goes on for 1.12 before the riff hits.
the syllables are gimmicks, the real magic is in the instrumental side of the composition.
@@samrivers2419 True, but the syllabels are what I can easily count and "present". :)
But that's why I inculded the quote from Danny Carey about the time signatures. :)
❤
First you out here smoking dabs on the peak, now you jamming out to Tool? I think we just became homies
I’m down!
If you have not heard much or any of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers will youb do a reaction for Can't Stop or Around The World?
Your teeth are *blinding* white! Kudos, what's your secret?
Aquafresh I suppose 🤔 thank you lol
6:02 - Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending,
To write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen..
;)
I've always heard it said 'latter - ah - lus'.
But I'm Australian, and thus probably shouldn't be quoted on pronunciation. ;)
Ok... so something fun for this reccomendation.
"The Beards - You should consider having sex with a bearded man. "
Don't let the band name and title dissuade you from checking them out.... and get the dab in first to enjoy the laughter.
Ladder Alice
Brother sometimes you grasp on to some straight facts. 4:45 awesome stuff.. Keep em coming
I make sense on occasion lmao
dude I thought you slipt into a coma...........

@@StonedChakra my bad i watched after the comment

Tool Land lollll
It's a beautiful land lol
Parabol/Parabola! Also The Patient is another great song that’s often overlooked.
