Thank you for the information on mirrors. I feel a little more confident in adding it to my work. I really love the goat eating dynamite. Always a nice touch.
About you mentioned you like point-to-point layouts and you're making your layout an actual point-to-point with eyes and turntables, I always say to myself it's that individuals layout they can do what they like with it, me I like continuous run layouts, where the train runs in continuous loops, that's always been my favorite kind of layout
Great idea's and alot of work figuring out the mirrors. Thank you for sharing it with us. Love how they turned out. The mine looks so much bigger how too. Can't wait to see Karyn's goat come to life. See you Tuesday. GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Great ideas. It reminded me of this cracker box of an apartment I rented in college. It was supposed to be a studio apartment at some point they put mirrors along one wall to the bathroom. It gave it depth that's for sure.
Excellent work with the mirrors, I just love watching your imagination work. The angles of placing the mirrors make the scenes so believable. Very nice work Dale.
@@ToyManTelevision you bets ya well deserved Say Dale you hear anything solid yet about 4014 finally going to do its "Western-Swing" ie; Ogden SLC Elko , Reno then CA.?
This will sound unlikely, but if you hang a short curtain in the door of the paint booth, from the ceiling to the height of the paint booth table, it will significantly improve the realism of the mirrored area. Great video, and the long mine is fantastic!
Dale, there are 2 ways you can fix the crossing-turntable-intersection. Because mine-car wheels turn independently on the axles, you could follow prototype mine practice and run the car off the end of the track onto a steel plate, turn the car on the flanges of the wheels, then push the car onto the appropriate track. This was done in some industries that used track like in a mine to move material and parts. The transition is done by tapering the rails onto the plate, bring the plate up to slightly lift the car, or turn each rail toward the outside of the track creating a J shape. The turntable can have an appropriate mark or groove for the flanges at half the gauge so it shows up in the mirror. The turntable should be in a square plate to hold the table, approaches(you know). I have seen one or two turntables in mines of these mine explorers put up on UA-cam that have rail attached to the table; if you did that, you could use rails parallel and one crossing set at 45* so the 2 rails are against the mirror and it would be very difficult to see the mirror.
An alternate suggestion for the 'End of Yard' scene is to use a cloud backdrop and a 3 stall 'car barn', or freight terminal, where "the cars" would back into the building. Love the mine scene 🙂
Well done. I have seen the pictures you posted and knew it was a mirror. However, I thought you had done two mirrors with the front a one-way mirror for the front one. Similar to the "Infinity mirror mineshaft coffee table"
The details, always the details. Figuring out how to overcome the detail problems can either make you proud or pull what hair you might have out. I know you have a reason, but could you not drop the logging railroad down and connect it to the rest of the layout? I know the big mirror comes into play here, but a switch and another trestle would look super. Oh well, this is not my railroad, it is yours, do it all your way. ;-)
Dear Dale and Karyn, absolutely magnificent video! First of all for the remembrance you’ve put in, from the basements to Steve’s mine, all fitted with mirrors. Second, for all the different techniques and tricks you’ve shown on how to use mirrors. Love how you’ve explained the how to avoid the gap from the normal glass mirrors and the reverse lettering. Cool to see the mirrors on the spray booth, and for the logging railroad. The mine mirrors are absolutely astonishing. Curious for your next episodes, both on the trestle, the furthering of the logging railroad and the stub end of the yard next to the spray booth. Apart from the surgical first surface mirrors, some art stores also sell variants of a first surface mirror with plastic backing. Cheerio
I was nervous about using this optical glass mirror. But don made short work of cutting it. It’s much more durable than the plastic ones. Should be no need to clean it but if so it’s easy to get to and difficult to scratch.
Dale, in mines, where they have an intersection and don't want to build a switch; they put down a heavy steel plate so they can turn the mine car on. It's called a slip sheet
Always love your videos. Great idea. I use mirrors in my real outdoor garden too. One question I want to move into my garage too with my G scale, what is the depth of that shelf and the spacing between the tracks? I want to get three tracks like you so any advice you can give would be great. Thank you for all these ideas.
24”. And that’s narrow. That’s as narrow as I could make it. Plan on 8” per track. But the front track doesn’t need the full 8” as there is nothing to run into on the front edge. Yet you don’t want a derailed train to fall off. So 4” from the backdrop to the center on track one. 8” between the center of track one and two. 8” from the center of track two to the center of track three and 4” from the center of track three to the edge.
There is a type of "fake" greenery that you can put outside to use for privacy. You can adjust the size I think. It's a lattice with ivy or vines on it. You could get or (knowing you two) make something like that and hang it on the front of your paint booth. Just lift it off of the hooks when you want to paint and hang it back up when you are done painting.
Hiya! Really nice seeing all these areas. And, a part of modelling is creating illusions with "smoke and mirrors", ...or the latter at least. I have seen people (not many though) create place names that are reversible: looking the same reflected or not. I'm itching to get active with videos and models again. Fighting Facebook to reclaim my account has been my main objective recently and I actually just got back from London where I called in to their HQ. No-one would come to help me! Anyway, speak soon!
You must be the same folks who owned or set up the cool magic mirror shop in Frankenmuth MI, featuring an old west town and Elivs Presley diner. Neatest illusions we ever saw as tourists.
He’s up there on his shelf! We were planning to go to the reunion this year. But something always comes up! This time the NMRA SW region convention in Flagstaff.

That mine is fantastic. The concept of "Smoke and mirrors" to lengthen it is stunning.
Yes I agree!
The Lark Mine Tunnel turned out amazing with the optical mirror!
What an excellent way of using a mirror.
😊
Very cool video. The mirror in the mineshaft is genius!
Thanks!!!
Great video. John Allen was probably the first influential person to use mirrors and he offered numerous ideas on how to further hide the illusion.
Yup. Brilliant. But a first. John Allen changed the hobby.

A reflection on this is you can say it's mine!
Thx again
Lol! Thanks🧨😀
I like the power pole lights.
They came out great. Now for wires.

Cheep footage I guess.
Love your night pictures! Perfect on the lights ✨️ 👌. The mirrors are something I didn't realize but you guys think of it all. 😊
The goat eating dynamite is EXCELLENT‼️💯 Love the quirkiness of your scene and the imagination you two bring to it. Keep up the amazing work. 😁
Excellent work with the mirrors, I just love watching your imagination work. The angles of placing the mirrors make the scenes so believable. Very nice work Dale.
Thank you very much!
Very, very clever on the mine mirror Dale! I have a HOn18 I want to model and that would work great…thanks for the idea.
I have never concidered this before. what a great idea. Might have to give this a try
Very Neatoe Dale
Thanks!!!

I wasn’t sure what they did exactly. I have seen photos of “turntables” in mines. And single point kick switches. Odd and interesting.
@@ToyManTelevision I found an intersection plate for you. ua-cam.com/video/uJLkuF7BkpI/v-deo.html
This is not the only one, but this one just came up.
John Allen was using mirrors similarly and used at least one box car with backwards lettering. But your system topped his artistry.
Well he was the pioneer. Genus!!
What a wealth of information in this video. Really enjoyed this one!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Great ideas 💡 I never thought of using mirrors thanks for sharing
Very John Allen of you
Thanks!!!!!!

Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!!! Still messing with the huge mirror scene. A few more ideas there.
That is great 😊

Great vidio, like the mine mirror's , sure looks real. Hummm the Caseyville mines are in for an update...Thanks for the morning coffee...
Thanks, you too! Mines are better than mimes. Just saying.
PS. In addition to John Allen, the late W. Allen McClelland and, I think Tony Koester(on his Allegheny Midland) used mirrors in strategic locations.
Mirror, mirror LIE to me Lie!!!! Very clever indeed!!!!

Love that goat 🐐
Thanks. Check out tomorrow’s show on that.

Nope!! Coolest though 😁🤩😁🚂🚂🚀🚀🚀
Appropriate use of the ESD safe tweezers ! ;)
I have a roundhouse with mirrors in the walls. It looks like there are three interconnecting roundhouses.
Have you thought about a metal mirror? I had one back in Boy Scouts. It was a highly polished piece of stainless steel.
I was thinking of that but really hard to cut.
magic of illusion
Use a front surface mirror. Cheapest place to find one would be in a projection TV.
The one we have is from Amazon. $13!
