Wow, I hope you get over these issues soon. I’ve been going through similar issues in my pond so I feel your frustration. Keep us posted on how they come on. It’s helpful for us all to know what works and what doesn’t.
thanks Susan. ill be honest, im a little behind on posting my videos and although youll see future videos of it getting worse, fingers crossed and im now coming out the other side
Dude I've seen this before and it was ammonia burns.having the L shape pond,I think only 50% of the water is being circulated and being filtrated properly.i rescued 2 fish from an L shaped pond.the guy constantly struggled with water parameters. You are a good koi keeper. Just giving my view 👍
Thanks mate , but my ammonia is zero. All my params are percect, even ph with all the rain . I've had this pond for 20 years and never had an issue so it can't be that mate. As long as you've got a good flow which I have, the shape won't make a difference. It has to be waste build up when I had a carpet of blanket weed very early on the year.
@Sharpeyskoi just don't know what else to suggest mate sorry. Double check all ur plants are fish friendly and nothing toxic is coming off them and into the pond
Feel for you mate. When we used to keep Betta, fin rot was something we had to contend with. The only thing that seemed to sort it was clean water/water changes.
Put the affected fish into a quarantine mate and water change water change water change , only way ive found that saves them , get ya pond cleaned out as much as you can i believe its waste related as they gas off waste from winter with the change in temps ive not had it for a few years now since ive had heater and bottom drain but in my old liner pond i had it
Thanks mate , unfortunately I don't have any quarantine facilities but I'm in process of trying so sort a vat and hopefully getting an easy pod from someone closing down thier pond . Also I'm currently massively cleaning out all nuts amd crannies in the pond and stepped up the water changes . I've also been adding virkon fingers crossed now .
In my experince mate PP baths for 5 mins are better for fin/mouth rot, ulcers n treating the pond with acriflavine. Feel for u been there a few times myself. Saved all koi the last few years since I started using PP.
Just from my experience the only cure for finrot is clean water. Ive removed a Tamasaba from my pond into a quarantine as it had swimbladder issues. In quarantine developed finrot. From my experience its easy to get rid of until it reaches the base of the fin, at that point its in the bloodstream and very differcult to shift. The only thing thats kept my tamasaba alive is constant daily water changes. It disappeared for 4 months and came back as i got comfortable and skipped a water change. When its in the bloodstream i personally think its a case of antibiotics. I tried every medication and salt up to 0.9 but nothing stopped it, within hours fins dincertergrating and only thing worked is water changing. I advise you go through your filters and make sure there's nothing lurking in there and kept ultra clean. Virkon will help but wont shift nasties from your system.
Thanks mate, yeah you'll see in upcoming videos I've been vigorously hoovering out my pond and getting into all the nuts and crannies. My nexus is spotless anyway so shouldn't be that but I can see it being waste build up over winter etc
Hi mate, yeah I've been using it so fingers crossed it helps . I've lost two fish now and culled my hariwake as it got to the flesh. I'm in process of now sorting a vat out now to take my sanke out.
From what I can see in the clip,it looks more like bacterial fin and tail rot. Will need a specific treatment to deal with it and I would be checking your water pms as they are most associated with this issue. Pp dips can also help while you are looking for the treatment, will help keep it at bay. The one that has it rotted right down will most likely never grow the fin back if it survives . The whole pond will get it if you don't get on top of it as soon as possible and a half water change will help reduce the negative bacteria for now. I would also be looking to do a big filter clean and have it as clean as possible during and after treatment. Hope this helps and there are plenty of treatments specifically for this . Best of luck and hope you get on top of it 🤞
Thanks mate . Yeah since this has began I've been vigorous cleaning and hoovering in all rhe nuts and crannies. My water parameters are spot on so defo not that but it's mostly likely due to quality due to waste build up when i had blanket weed. I'm hoping the virkon picks it back-up. I've had to cull the hariwake now as it started to attack the flesh. Fingers crossed
@@Sharpeyskoi it's most likely a mixture of dirt build up over winter and the temperature fluctuations we have been having. Filters won't be up to full working power and the same for the koi,as I gather your pond isn't heated? Of you have a way to add a bit of heat while you are getting them to recover, it will have an overall good effect on both the koi and filters. Me personally, I would retreat after about four to five days and possibly sooner if I'm not getting the desired results. Most treatments aren't to strong to kill our koi, other than pp. So a second or third dose of needed sooner is better in my view than waiting to long to retreat and it getting worse. Salt at 3% is also beneficial and will help with the healing along with heat if possible. Also be looking at about a 30% water change before treatment and a good clean prior to adding the treatment, means it is just being used on the disease and not used up on other things in the pond. Of you aren't happy with how they are coming on, a short pp dip daily for a few days os better than watching them die before your eyes and it wil have an immediate effect for the koi, as I have done this myself previously with good results and fish all still alive. Again this is my opinion and what worked for me,you may have to find your own method,as every pond is unique. Thoughts are with you and hope it all works out for the best 🤞
Have you considered dosing with virkon to see if that will help? I know you cant use salt because of the plants but i cant see these problems going mate. Hope you get it sorted 👍
Hi, I had a whole pond of fish that were rotting away, like yourself I tried salt and topical treatments then somebody said to use virkon. It turned my pond round in 10 days. 1 tablet per 1000 gallons to start then 1 tablet every 5 days. I never looked back. Only a suggestion but it worked for me.
Hi Sharpey, Sorry to see you with more issues, this weekend myself ive had to bowl up one of my koi with something on his tail, a good 10 mins in the salt bath and lets hope i got him covered. You said in the vid "i dont know if theres a way back for some of these fish" well hopefully i can give you some hope, one of mine had fin rot and i didnt even know about it. The pond at the time was an in the floor pond and you coudnt see the fish as well, this lost him his Dorsal fin but is still good today, luckily he sorted its self out, hes about 16 years old at present, so theres always hope. I also dose the pond every month with Virkon with hope it does something benificial. My YT channel- ua-cam.com/channels/q38EbPt81gRWr3HGBCkWXg.html
Ah thanks mate. Yeah I've used vikon now so hopefully I can get on top of. I've had to cull the lemon hariwake though as it got in bad way and it attacked the flesh , you'll see in future video
I'm sorry to hear about your issues with fin rot on your koi. I'm battling against a bacterial problem in mine, which I'm starting to win now! But it's been a long road, which has resulted in me losing 7 koi. If you check out my channel Micks Koi Pond, I have a video where I'm treating one of my koi. I hope you get this sorted mate!!
thanks mate, and sorry to hear your having issues too but glad you are hopefully on the right track. ill check your channel out for sure. thanks for your comment
Hi sharp, Sorry to hear that you are still having fin rot problems mate also can you please give me your email address so I can send you my details as I don't have a Facebook account mate. Steve
