    The Palace of Versailles is one of my favorites. Paris also has fantastic artwork in the museums. In London, you should see the royal jewels. Wow, it's mind-blowing. I would love to spend some time in Brussels.

    We would love to visit Paris one day!! Craig’s dream is to take his dad to the Tour de France one day. How amazing that there are so many day tours available...and to different countries! So much history everywhere! We also love to go off the beaten track and explore outside of the main tourist areas.

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  3 роки тому +1

      That would be an incredible experience to go to the Tour de France. There are so many options to see around outside of Paris city centre, but even if you stay in the city there's so much to do.

    *LOOKS LIKE YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE SO MUCH* !! We hope to be able to make it to Europe once the world normalizes. It looks like you had a fantastic spread of places to see, with some neat history and architecture. Eager to see more! 😊

    I love the garden of Palace of Versailles! I didn't get to go inside because I arrived late using the train and didn't expect the long line of touritst going inside. I missed a lot but I enjoyed just the same the gorgeous garden.

    • @TheAverageTourist

      The garden is lovely. It's quite a popular place, I still didn't expect the line to be that huge!

    Oh yes, Louire Valley is the incredible region! The castle looks especially nice in the evening 😊
    Thanks for the rest day trips! All worth visiting (especially London, haha) 😊
    Versailles palace looks so crowded!

    Loved the beauty and the beast castle🏰 makes sense that it would be inspired by a French one. You had such beautiful weather for all the sightseeing!
    We have travelled around France quite a bit but there’s still more to see. Craig also cycled from London to Paris a few years ago. You should see London Bridge at night from the sky garden, it looks beautiful☺️

      The Beauty and the Beast castle was definitely a highlight for me. We were there in September, and it was still super hot! You guys are located in a great spot to venture into France and neighboring countries - I'll have to hit you up for suggestions if we ever get back to France one day.

    I can't believe it there's a lot of tourists in the Palace of Versailles during this pandemic. The Normandy and beaches looks interesting, the place looks clean definitely added to my bucket list and brussels as well.

    Nice video with great tips, but if I may say something, the Inspiration Castle for the Beauty and the Beast Movie was the Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavaria, Germany.

    Soo many great ideas! It would be so cool to see the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast!
    Walking around the gardens at the Palace of Versailles looks so lovely. It seems crazy now looking at all the people crammed into some of the areas in the Palace, I am sure that will be quite different in the future.
    I didn't know a day trip to London was a realistic option :)

    I love Paris! I would love to do more outside of Paris but there was so much to see while in the city. But I did get to the Palace of Versailles. I would love to go back in Spring to see the gardens in full bloom. But going in winter meant the inside of the palace wasn’t as crowded. I would love to go visit Normandy also.

    I've been to Paris twice, but both times were quick trips so I haven't been able to do any day trips. Because I'm a history buff and a veteran, I'd really love to visit and pay my respects at Normandy Beach. That line for the Palace of Versailles was super long!

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  3 роки тому

      The line at Versailles was crazy. Yes as a history buff and veteran, Normandy and the area might be somewhere you'd be able to spend a few days visiting memorials and historic sites. It's a very moving experience.

    Definitely agree to get out of Paris... we've only ever visited the city, but want to make it around to more of France on our next trip to the country. Steve is a huge history nerd so he would for sure love the D-Day beaches and Normandy, but I'd be more about the palace of Versailles! We really want to see the south of France though, we heard it is really beautiful!

    Booking a wine tour sounds divine! Thanks for the suggestion. Those chateaus were beautiful! Seeing historical spots like Normandy are definitely seen best when on a tour. We went to Versaille by public transportation and it was really easy to do and nice to be able to explore at your leisure. Wow, I can't imagine doing London as a day trip. That's would require some serious time management skills!

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  3 роки тому +1

      We wish we went by public transit to Versailles - we could have spent the day there (happily!). My husband and I aren't "slow" travellers - we really power through the sights. I think it's because we are used to having limited time for vacation and both want to see as much as we can. I hope one day to be able to do slow travel and take my time - until then we just power walk 😂

    • @LucasWorldTravel
      @LucasWorldTravel 3 роки тому

      @@TheAverageTourist We understand trying to cram as much in as possible for sure. Slow travel is a true luxury. We've only gotten to experience slow travel because of the pandemic.

    Sometimes i forget that i can get to France easier than i can to the other side of the UK! Although i don't think I'd reccomend it for a day as it would cost so much and you'd have to rush it. Normandy beaches are a really good place to visit and a very different side of history to the gorgeous chateaus and castles.

    Going back to Paris in 3 weeks and love this video. Making me more excited. 🥰. We did London and Bruges then and you’re right about Bruges. My heart was captivated by that quaint town and was debating to go back because I love small town feels. Eventually decided to visit Colmar and explore the nearby towns of Eguisheim and Kaysersburg. Taking a train from Paris to Colmar. Then rented a car in Colmar to explore the nearby towns. Expensive and a very long day but the only way to maximize our time. Thank you.

    We would love to see some of the chateaus! How much was the full-day wine tour? Wayne has been to Normandy and Omaha Beach; he was there on D-Day four years ago--he loved it! Versailles seems a bit gaudy to us inside; we would probably prefer the gardens... Wayne brought April a keychain of the little boy peeing back from when he was in Brussels! We have always wanted to go to Luxembourg!

    So after all that wine tasting you were still able to drive back to Paris? So funny to see you doing Brussels and London as a day trip from Paris. Here we would consider that as another city trip that will cost you a couple of days. But I can imagine if you come over from Canada you can't afford this. Great bonus tips as well.

    Really good suggestions all around! Thank you very much for specifically suggesting day trips to other cities in other European countries. As someone from the US who has mostly traveled around China, I'm really not used to cool cities being close enough to each other to casually visit for a day trip via high speed train.
    As a final add-on suggestion for a day trip, Amsterdam looks like it's about as doable as Bruges/Ghent or Luxembourg. My friend really wants to go to Amsterdam and I only have two weeks vacation to come to Europe this summer, so we decided to hit up France and Italy. However, it seems like you can get to Amsterdam from Paris in about 3 hours by high speed train for roughly 125 Euros per round trip ticket. I don't know Amsterdam that well so maybe you need more than just a day there, but from what I could tell it seemed like a decent trip. If my friend is willing to spend the extra money we might try to go together as a day trip since I won't be able to extend my vacation to add it in otherwise.
    Either way, thank you once again for the great video and suggestions! You've given me a lot of ideas and for that you've earned a subscription!

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  2 роки тому

      There are so many options to get around in Europe which makes countries and day trips so accessible. I think you could do Amsterdam in a day if you planned it all in advance. But it would just be the highlights.

    This is fantastic! So great to be seeing day trips from Paris because most people just stay in the central area like US HAHA. Normandy and Palace of Versailles are always on the list so great to add them in for sure! London and Beligum! Awesome as well! Loving the list though > I really hopes it encourages people to not always hit up the big cities, but check out all the neighboring places around! Great list!

    Ah France was on our list to travel last year, we really wished we would have made it to France. Love all your recommendations. There is so much more to France than the Efile Tower.
    The Palace of Versailles is literally my number 1 and you guys did a great job in showcasing it. The hall of mirrors looks so absolutely amazing.
    Its so awesome that England, London and Belgium is so close to France. France seems so central to these awesome countries.
