      This video was far more insightful than anything I would expect to find on UA-cam. I admit that i had not really dug very deeply under the surface of the red pill discourse. Certainly not to the level of connecting it to certain philosophical traditions dating back to the enlightenment.
      Some time ago, i realized one of my subconscious motives for becoming a historian was because I find contemporary social politics a little too emotionally arousing. (I get too angry to be as rational as i prefer to be - or, i used to, when I was younger.)
      It is impressive to me that other scholars and advanced students manage to maintain their level& headedness and dispassionate analytical skills even when speaking about very frustrating ideas from the contemporary world.
      Personally, i prefer to do that via historical proxy. Just today I spoke about iconoclasm and let students make the connection to contemporary political assaults on monuments.
      To each his own, i suppose.
      I'll be back for more of your videos. Thanks for sharing your mind with us.

However, they are right that the blame mostly goes into the society at large for disregarding average guys and belittling them.

But after Peterson and later Tate became the voice of the movement, I jumped ship.
      I was a former MGTOW and they barely have a voice in the manosphere, these days. I still hold firm on my belief until I met my gf that it begjns to softened. She's the first women I ever meet who understand my deep fears.

      @@biocaster777 If they actually cared about getting laid, they'd shut out all the other noise and just do whatever it takes to get good at that. Experiment with apps and on dates, research psychology literature and relationship stuides, date a LOT, get in great shape, get your mental health on point, learn how to be a good conversationalist, etc.
      I had that phase in my early to mid 20s. I got good at getting laid. At a certain point, I realized that connecting with another person that I happened to be attracted (and in turn was attracted me) was a lot more fun. I ended up in a few fulfilling relationships where I made a lot of mistakes, but came away with a lot of lessons learned that I applied further to my life and later relationships.
      Now I'm in a wonderful place mentally, professionally, socially, and relationship wise. Of course, these things don't stay stable forever and that is life. People get sick, they die, people lie and get hurt, people move away, etc. Shit happens. But because of my expriences, I know how to navigate them and how to stay centered.
      That all started from just wanting to get laid a lot. If you really want something, go and try very hard to get it. Even when you fail (and you WILL fail, like a shit ton), you'll learn a lot about yourself and life.
      Like I said, these guys don't want to get laid. They want to be told that they're perfect just the way they are and it's those woke bitches that are the problem and are why your life sucks.
      Men like Tate get popular because he points their unhappiness at a target to blame and it's easy to do that when you don't want to look inward at yourself and decide what you're going to do about your life that you don't like and make changes. That shit's hard and not easy like blaming others.

    The longer I live (I'm 70), the more I realize just how valid Hegel's dialectic was/is/will be. Thesis (feminism movement) leads to antithesis (world's reaction to extremist feminism) to synthesis (eventually everything settles down, not to peace and progressive change, but at least to something more reasonable.) The same, of course, applies to "social justice fundamentalism" aka "wokeism" which is getting a very negative reaction from just about everybody, left and right, that will eventually settle down into a grudging compromise. Unfortunately, we don't ever seem to end up with the long-awaited ideal "omega point" Hegel predicted, a point when all contradictions are resolved.( Apologies for being long-winded.)

    • @nektariosorfanoudakis2270
      @nektariosorfanoudakis2270 Рік тому +20

      I don't think the antithesis is reaction to "extremist" feminism, it's reaction to Feminism itself. (And Hegel is a lot more complicated than thesis-antithesis-synthesis, he talks about negations and negations of negations for example).
      Still, one could say that anti-Feminists have their own thesis "Feminists has emasculated men and they're the reason you're lonely", which can have its own antithesis; it's not so clear where all of this starts, the origin, maybe the thesis is the Patriarchy and the antithesis is Feminism, or maybe the thesis was Bronze Age societies and Patriarchy rose as a very long term antithesis to it, which makes Feminism, i.e. gender equity, the real Synthesis, note in that case how the dialectical "origin" is like the dialectical "end".
      Could read on the Master-Slave dialectic, always a good idea when studying Hegel as applies to social hierarchy issues I guess.

    • @RobespierreThePoof
      @RobespierreThePoof Рік тому +10

      Ah yes. Hegel's dialectic. It's funny how it seems to always find a new application. For me (and I'm biased as a historian), it applies best to certain historical processes, particularly the ones in which there's a conflict between two or more interest groups. I'm not of the camp that thinks Hegel is the ubermensch, however. (Ha!). But for the culture wars, yes, it seems to work. The only problem bring that we don't yet know what the final outcome will be when the culture wars have faded away in favor of new conflicts.
      Personally, i thought we were at the end of the culture wars in the last decade. Everything in the Trump' political movement represented, to me, a last hurrah of cultural conservativism in America. The irrationality, conspiratorial, rabid anger and petulance of it all still strikes me as the political movement of a dying cause. But i could be wrong.
      Either way, there will be a recalibration on the political left. At some point left-wing culture warriors will have to contend with some contradictions in their political rhetoric and certain criticisms that have at least some validity, even though they're often buried under a lot of irrational bile.
      For example:
      How will we know when feminism has achieved it's goals of maximum equality? Women are half the population. They have the oldest social justice cause of them all (excluding, perhaps, the working classes). They are the only case where' it actually is possible that the power hierarchy could flip upside-down instead of achieving gender equity, if only because they are NOT a minority group and they are fairly essential to countries social structures
      How do we contend with the role that biology DOES play in identities of various kinds (as science returns in this direction with epigenetics, für example) it turns out, low and behold, that nature is a significant factor alongside nature, after all. Just not in the ways we used to think.
      Is total equality really achievable in a society with class disparities? Is a classless society a pragmatic goal? Or is it an impossible utopia?
      Given that religion seems to be hard-wired into human nature, what alternatives do we have to offer those seeking spiritual fulfillment, a sense of purpose, hope, community and emotional relief?
      I could go on.
      I suspect these are the questions that will be asked and answered at the true end of the culture wars. Hopefully soon in my lifetime.

    Onwards from 34:56 almost feels like an addendum to the video itself, yet it is crucial in order to humanize the issue, gleaming a ray of sympathy from a dark and barren place.
    The "red pill" is a concept of dark cynicism, constructing a picture of the world, telling the believer that they have been left behind. People which feel forced to swallow it, don't feel privileged, quite the opposite. The only solace they get from this matrix of beliefs is the raw acceptance that their situation sucks, and maybe they can empower themselves to change that.
    I don't want to be too reductive, but I would take a gander and say the core issue is companionship and finding a significant other. This is where most of the grief and anxiety (especially for young men) lies. The rest feel superfluous, like rippling externalities which might or might not manifest themselves. Egotism and narcissism fester in the face of social abandonment.

    • @captainprivate3768

      I think without relationships in which you get to exercise your genuine self to a degree you basically are just left with your performative job role and notions of status in a world that gives no care for you. This maybe doesn't have to necessitate a significant-other, you could have a male or mixed friend group where there is no need to keep up a false pretense of absolute resilience... But some people don't even have this.
      I don't think it's difficult to imagine how disillusioned you could become if your reality (whilst being real and having real function in society) is decidedly lacking in reality in the way it functions and how it deals with the outside world. There's nothing to ground you. Not only is there no buffer between you and the pointlessness of things, but you also feel like you're the only one noticing it. There's no reason to stomach the absurdities of life. You don't get to go through your soul-crushing work day knowing you're doing it to maintain a lifestyle outside of it that is worth preserving.
      I don't know where I'm going with this, I'm a bit drunk. I can't relate to people who don't on some level appreciate that this environment is weird and kinda artificial. What was once lush and green is now seemingly unending rows of roads and corporate logos. Everywhere you turn someone wants your money or to have you do their bidding... It's nauseating.

    The way I see it is thus: whenever a demographic emerges that is seen as vulnerable, impressionable and growing in size, there are individuals and businesses who see an opportunity to cash in on those vulnerabilities. Think of the elderly who are preyed upon by the pharmaceutical industry ("buy our pills, live longer - the actual quality of your life doesn't matter!) or the overweight who are told to ignore their life-threatening conditions to embrace "body positivity" because it helps certain brands sell their plus-size clothing.
    Now we are in a stage where single, lonely males represent a rapidly growing demographic to be exploited for the same purposes. There is money and fame to be found by pretending to help them with easy solutions and easy scapegoats. It's easier to blame women and feminism than to have a profound thinking process about the evolution of society and the need to reform laws and institutions.

While I haven't been exposed directly to the movement surrounding these disenchanted men, as someone whose marriage was lost by the choices of my ex-wife, and influenced in part by some of the subjects discussed here, it is hard not to fall into that sense of resentment. It seems as though the Individualistic Red-Pill philosophy which rejects empathy & understanding for others and focusses on intrinsic knowledge, could be a sociological reaction to Online culture; where there is an overwhelming (and some would say highly unnatural) amount of accessibility to the millions of experiences and viewpoints that can be hard to comprehend and empathise with (especially for young, emerging minds). Social media certainly focusses on frictional interpersonal experiences to generate engagement, so to even try to understand & empathise with people behind so many viewpoints could undoubtedly leave many people with empathy fatigue.
    Add to that that a media driven of Self, whereby everyone imagines themselves to be the righteous and virtuous hero & main character, any & all conflict and behaviour is justified from such a position. There's a need to display this character publicly (performance) or else the sense of self crumbles; without demonstrating these characteristics through conflict, are you really the noble & rightous hero fighting against the unjust extrinsic world? Where any challenge to this character (valid criticism, calls for responsibility for ones own behaviour) similarly collapses the ego - as the ego is (ironically) based in the perception of the self from others (extrinsic).
    Is it any wonder that a philosophy that disregards extrinsic values and empathy has caught wind of the oversaturated & unsatisfied self-interested individuals?

    • @Nice_Fella
      @Nice_Fella 3 місяці тому

      @@drjp4212 Redpill ideology rigid and does not have space for empathetic acceptance of those outside of the ideology.
      Taking the Redpill biology route (as you mentioned) towards gender roles, "women are carriers" "men are warriors, hunter gatherers" "thats simple biology" "therefore women should stay at home, whilst men provide" etc (im not saying you've said these things, but rather these are common redpill community arguments along biological lines). But this discounts the lived experiences of millions of women who thrive in business environments, sports, entertainment, medicine, who are successful in their fields. It also denigrates any man who doesn't fit into traditional gender roles, who live happy lives as caregivers for example. Also down the Redpill 'biology' route is the belief that women are only attracted to rich athletic men with "alpha" characteristics, again discounting the lived experiences of millions of couples who don't fit into that redpill biological understanding of attraction. Which isn't to say there isn't any truth to these ideas - they work for some people, some people do suit particular societal roles, some people are attracted to traditional hypermasculine traits and behaviours, you can certainly pursue those - but that isn't the sum total of human experience nor what society has to offer people who don't fall into these structured archetypes.
      The Redpill ideology itself is underpinned by a lack of empathy & appreciation towards those outside of its own defined & structured beliefs, and that lack of empathy & appreciation often manifests itself in its toxic online culture.
      What I say though, is that alot of this is understandable as a sociological reaction to 24/7 bombardment of digital & social media culture, a warped mirror world of reality that hyperfixates (through algorithmically fed repetition) on viewpoints and ideologies that cause personal friction, with the aim of driving engagement. After you've seen thousands of people behaving aggressively or egregiously, there can be less empathy to understand why their behaviour is toxic in the first place, this lack of empathy is replaced with frictional interaction, driving engagement, escalating arguments, and reinforcing toxic belief systems through negative experiences. So across the past 10 years, we see a rise in Redpill ideologies, where empathy for the "other" is limited. Perhaps it is no surprise why.

Not because Romanticism was inherently conservative in itself, but because it surely was the host of a general cultural reaction to the progressims of Enligthenment. Authenticity, rootedness in nature, tradition, some form of spirituality, identitarianism concerning human belonging opposed to universalism, were all conceived in the forms that sprawled along the last two centuries as forms of conservatism. In general, the point is that Enlightenment's progressism is deeply tied to capitalist theodicy (and theology of the market), and Romanticism was a reaction expressively to that: scientism, technologism, market liberalism, etc.

    I think that ‘red pill’ is simply one of many instances of a society obsessed with ‘authenticity’. There are a few reasons why this obsession has taken hold (such as how technology, in making life easier, has also alienated us from ways of life we had known for thousands of years), but it’s nevertheless the case that authenticity is the central animating idea at the heart of modern society; to be more accurate, the question ‘what does it mean to be authentic?’ is a problem for us and we come up with any number of potential answers, such as red pill, but also identarianism (insofar as focusing on a single aspect of our existence, such as skin colour, gender, physical/mental health etc implies the question of how to be (e.g.) ‘authentically black’ or ‘authentically female).
    Where red pill is concerned we find questions like ‘what is it to be authentically male?’ or ‘what is it to be authentically informed about the world or society?’. These are inevitable, I think, in a culture that has prioritised truth above all else; the ‘true’ is greater than the ‘false’, and modern culture has become politicised along these terms.

Thats obviously very seductive when much of the reigning ideology in academia, media, etc views so much through a systematic grouped lens. Think about it; if you are systematically oppressed, but still highest up on the scale of being an "oppressor", then not only are you screwed, but no one cares.
    Well, alot of younger guys either accept this and wilt in depression, sadness, jealousy, and realize this is a hopeless future. Other alternatives once considered - such as the Red Pill offers something else. You are told you have the ultimate control of your life, and maybe you can do something about it. Instead of seeing all these other people/men around you that are happy, have a wife/girl, and even family and wallowing in misery and biterness that your life is so much worse, you are told to do something about it.
    Essentially, pull yourself up, and theres also a group of like-minded people around you doing the same. That's very alluring vs the other "side" of where you are terrible oppressor and have all this privilege. There needs to be other alternatives - maybe even paleo ones, because in a world where one's lived experience is the "truth", there is no real truth, no mythos. Societies without that... crumble.

    Existential anxiety is a feeling of dread or panic that arises when a person confronts the limitations of their existence. Thoughts of death, the meaningless of life, or the insignificance of self, can all trigger existential anxiety. People may feel overwhelmed, hopeless, and helpless. The mind in this state seeks escape, usually in some form of addiction to a substance or a belief structure. The only true way of escape is in the humility to accept the fragility of life. To love the dread and panic because it is the cost that comes with the gift of being born human.

    Hi there, I appreciate the video and all the work you put into it. However, there is something I don't understand about your argument. Admittedly I don't follow red pill stuff closely, but it was my understanding that the objections leveled against feminism are often of a structural kind rather than about "masculinity". Doesn't it stand to reason that structural issues could result in disadvantages for men that are not justifiable philosophically? For example, you mentioned men falling behind in schools. Why isn't it reasonable to make arguments of the sort that infer the educational system is ill-adapted to boys relative to girls based on this outcome? That is how we reason in many other instances.
    Genuine question. Not looking for a fight.

    • @potatopotatow
      @potatopotatow Рік тому +6

      I can’t speak for this youtuber, but I would say that we can absolutely argue that the current educational system is ill adapted for boys. I think it is, in many respects. But we shouldn’t then fall into the trap of using this one very recent divergence from the status quo to claim that “women have it better”. The patriarchy hurts everyone, even though it purports to grant men some special position

    • @abelabel3664
      @abelabel3664 Рік тому +7

      The question is why is the educational system is the way it is. There is hardly any evidence feminism pushed it to make the way it is. Moreover, this is being measured with grades, which is highly debatable in terms of whether this poses a good representation of the supposed goals of the system are being achieved (is it about career placement, is it about knowledge, is it about well-being, etc?). One could argue that common masculinity traits are responsible for that: boys are not as encouraged to reach out for help, to be as socially connected, to show vulnerability, to focus on intellectual rather than physical activities, etc, etc. This would be as speculative as to why the "system" seems to perform better for girls, and that is why the hypothesis that feminism is the cause of it without any evidence is just that, a hypothesis.
      Additionally, what is the current situation being compared to? A past in which girls had little access to schools?

    • @Damesanglante
      @Damesanglante Рік тому

      C'est simple. Le système avantage les femmes à l'extrême en Occident et se fout des hommes.
      C'est d'ailleurs pour ça que l'excellent Guy Corneau s'y est intéressé. Il a remarqué que la majorité des hommes ne reçevait pas d'aide, pas de compassion et dès qu'ils parlent de leurs émotions, ils se font jeter par leur conjointe comme des serviettes usées.
      Ensuite, la société nous dit qu'on est des mardes violents et que nos envies sexuelles sont du viol et autre âneries féministes. Et même là, ça blame le patriarcat, donc encore les hommes.
      Donc à force de se faire cracher dans la face, il y en a qui se sont tannés d'un système ou les femmes sont mises sur un piédestal, même quand elles trompent, trichent, mentent, etc.
      L'internet a été le dernier clou dans le cercueil avec les sites de rencontre ou une fille reçoit 200 messages par jour et toi juste un et c'est ton ami qui t'a fait une blague.
      Le documentaire Redpill a vraiment démontré comment on est traités comme des déchets. Les morts au travail, à la guerre, suocides, drogues, etc.
      Ensuite, bien sur, sont venus des charlatans qui essaient de vendre des cours et coaching en profitant du malheur des autres.
      C'est assez triste tout ça en fait.

    • @Damesanglante
      @Damesanglante Рік тому
