Judging by the Janet Control album commentary, this was early 1986. It was my first year in the Navy, I was 18. They Jammed that album in Chicago, and up in Wisconsin. A year later was Bad. What a time!
I’m glad Donnie mentioned Michael and Whitney’s albums being pushed back. Because if those albums came out too early, both of them would’ve flopped. Thank God that didn’t happen.
Hmmmm....🤔🤔🤔 This was from the first week of February. Donnie mentioned Jody's "smash hit" single ("Looking for a New Love"), however, it didn't become a hit on the R&B charts until March of that year, and didn't cross over hit on the Pop charts until May! Additionally, the video hadn't even come out yet, from what I see online (it didn't debut until March), so I'm guessing the "smash hit" reference was simply due to the song's huge popularity on radio at that point!
Jody performed that song on Soul Train on December 27, 1986 (that episode aired two days after Christmas) and I saw that episode while the show was in reruns a decade ago.
Nobody knew that michael jackson was also pulling the strings behind the scenes for janet to get better promotion at A&m records via john mclain , same man in charge of his estate when he died . Was her manager
There will never be anything like the 80s.
SO TRUE!!!
Oh yeah no doubt about that
Exactly. I am an 80's kid, and the '80s were the best. I feel sorry for these poor kids today.
NEVER! Yet, I was born in '97. #TakeMeBack
Best decade....followed by the 90s
I miss the old B.E T
You’re not the only one. I miss it too. Donnie Simpson is a legend, yes he is and what’s more, he’s still doing his thing on radio.
@@rodneybuck5943 I think last year he bought video soul back I think it's on tubi
@@sarahsimpkins1311 it is. But I watched one episode.
😭
Right! I don't even watch BET anymore.
I love Video Soul as well as the old BET
Amazing that he talks about Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston’s anticipated new albums and now they’re classics
I’m sure by 1987 Micheal Jackson wasn’t a sleeper to no one. Seems you forget thriller was the number 1 selling album of all time released in 1983
Yaaaasss❤When Video Soul started❤Always loved seeing Donnie Simpsons fine-ass❤ King
I was just over a month old when this aired. Wow.
Wow 😮
So cool I ve never seen on this era just fantastic 👍👍👍👍
And the Past is better 👍
Think you so much 👍👍👍
Oh man, thank you so much for sharing this!
Classic BET...
I loved all those artists he named. Even David Bowie, who i had a big crushed on.
Speaking of (David) Bowie, LETS DANCE, Y’ALL!!!
Back in the days when B.E.T was Channel 38 in Milwaukee, And back when it was a real music station.🎶😎

He so damn fine

Donnie mentioned both Michael's and Whitney's new albums. Little did anybody else know they were going to break records and make more history.

This man was extremely handsome my lord ❤
Do you have any Video Soul episodes from 1983 - 1986? I'd love seeing music videos from that era that i haven't ever seen before!

Classic BET at its finest and blackest.
