I am an Ecuadorian who lives overseas. Most of the comments you've made about Ecuador seem to be true, but my question is; didn't you have something positive to say about Ecuador? It is fine to say all the shocking experience, but I am sure out of respect for the host country you should have included some positive experiences you've had. This is just common courtesy when you visit a new country and culture. I can say a few shocking experiences about the US when I was living there, but for the most part I consider the US part of my life and I care about its people and culture. I hope you don't go around other countries finding and flashing only shocking experiences and making fun of its people. Please check the plunk of your own eye before you shock others with your finding about my humble people of Ecuador.
Ease off here, its just a way of saying this will be different to the US or that will be a surprise. It seems to be traditional with youtube things to start with "shocking" or "Will Shock you" as an attention grabber, Its not out and out critisism, but more advice for the unexpected for tourists. The other thing, their list of surprises is much shorter than their list of "Likes" that would probably take all day to enumerate. 🙂
Yes, there are some good "shocks" that could've been mentioned, as in nice unexpected surprises, that foreign tourists or new immigrants wouldn't expect but would enjoy.
Hi there! Thank you very much for watching. This is just one of a few videos we have. We actually chose to stay in Ecuador because of how much we loved it. I think a watch of that video (Why we chose to move to Quito during the pandemic) might clear up some misconceptions you might have. We have nothing but love for Ecuador but that's not what this video was for in particular.
Well said mi compatriota .
Well said 👏
I enjoy your video, but honestly, I have lived in Ecuador for five months, and my experience is very different. I have not had to bribe anyone! I live in Cuenca, and we do not have the transportation experiences you had. We only use taxis or the Tranvia. Tipping is something to be very careful with. If Americans tip too much, the locals will not get waited on because they cannot tip in that way. We love Ecuador!
May we clone you? Thank you for not looking only for the worst. We all have different experiences but this lady seems to have been hit with the bad luck stick. 👀🙃😏
How is life in Cuenca?
No tipping please. The economy is set so the inflation is next to zero. For instance, new cars are sold at sticker so the used market is strong with very low depreciation.
Yes, you have to be careful always everywhere...even in USA.
Please don’t tip
Ecuadorians can not afford that way of life
You shouldn't generalized. Ecuador's regions are VERY different.
@The Status Go, you have to ask for Café Pasado or you'll get instant. Ecuadorian Coffee is the best if you know what to ask for! 💗🇪🇨💗
Ecuador definitivamente es un país muy hermoso tienen que conocer más del país, su arquitectura,su gastronomía muy rica ,los paisajes fantásticos,su gente muy amable etc. etc. Saludos 🇬🇸🇳🇿🇪🇨🇺🇸🇬🇸
I was blown away by how nice the Guatemalans were, I imagine that the people of Peru and Ecuador would be similar. Guatemala got me very interested in the lives of indigenous people.
Como BORICUA adoro el ECUADOR.. fui 2 veces y vuelvo en Agosto. Me fascina después.

In my experience, the only time that alcohol cannot be sold or served (and not supposed to be consumed) is from noon on Friday prior to election day (which is always on Sunday) util noon the following Monday. For several months after covid's arrival (officially on 12 Mar 2020) - and after we were permitted to go outside again on weekends - alcohol could not be sold on Sundays. Although instant coffee is typically served in small eateries, there are excellent varieties of coffee available that can be purchased as beans or freshly ground. Happy exploring!
I live in Canada and there is dog poop everywhere, also in some parts of the big city it is very filthy with lots of potholes ( SHOCKER). I've also been in the States and same situation and even worsen. Ecuador with it's flaws is still a beautiful Country.
Agree with you totally... I have travelled to many rich countries . included de countries that mentioned and in some cases worse than ECUADOR... I live in Ecuador and never robbed or payed extra money. I have been to London and New York and it is full of scammers in the streets. There are people dressed like clowns and charge money 10. 20 dollars for a picture . with your own mobile phone.....and poo in the streets of the dogs walkers. ..and so many things.... People have to travel with an open mind and remember YOU ARE NOT IN YOUR HOUSE OR COUNTRY ...
My friend was killed in a rich section upstate NY in her own home. They said it was the son of the man she was married for 27 years. He was rich and much older than her but they loved each other very much he was a widow with 3 adult children he told my friend do n t worry about being left with nothing. I gave my children their part, everything is yours. I guess one of his 3ckids was not happy and killed her! Because he wanted more... my friend took good care of him for 5 years! He had a stroke and was big and heavy. She really loved him but died... and she was very sad.. and we told her to leVe the town she used to say. But it reminds me of... had many beautiful memories with him. I love this o earful town. She was killed in the peaceful little town.
I hope Ecuador never become a first world country like USA. Drugs, sex, abortion, trans this, trans that, homeless, wars. Spending and spending, hoarding.. never heard of that etc etc. So many crazy things going on in schools. Parents don't even have to know... everything is confidentiality, even if they are your children, mind your own business is their motto so if you see someone dying on the street? Just pass by, be careful.. too Crazy for me.
@@rosaarodriguez9968 so sorry to hear that 😱😱😱. People in poor countries think that Rich countries are like paradise.. let me tell you. Those rich countries have bigger problems than poor countries .. .drug problems . Children killing other children at school. People pushing you on a passing train.. . hospitals full of sick people letting people died because there are not beds .or not enough nurses to doctors to cure the sick..my friend died in a rich and safe country. He was killed by a car in a sebra crossing.. we traveled to so many poor countries and we never had any problem but his rich and safe country killed him.... .my opinion our poor country has so much to offer we could live so comfortable, the only problem is that we don't know how to enjoy and make a good use of what we have.. enjoy your life 👍👍👍
@@rosaarodriguez9968 that is true .I have seen all of that and more. 👍👍👍👍
Actually coffee is amazing in Ecuador, is world-class. You just have to know where to order it and it has to be "Pasado" not instant coffee. Greetings from North America.
In my brief two weeks in Ecuador in 2010, I had to get (remain) used to instant. I carried my own nice instant with a Jet Boil, so was used to it. I look forward to finding some proper local coffee when we return next year.
In 2010 ground or beans were not popular as they are in 2022!
@@BOULDERGEEK (Its now 2022,) Next time, Try "Sweet & Coffee" its a coffee shop franchise, but it sells the local coffees as well, in 400 gm re-sealable bags, from different areas and altitudes such as Zaruma, Loja, jipijapa, Etc, (my preferencveis for Loja coffee), they also provide a small leaflet that details the differences between the coffee areas, as to flavor and strength etc. may even be on their website.
We went there a few times and enjoyed it! Good recommendation!
The lack of tipping is only a shock to US Americans.
I have only visited Ecuador, but I have lived in other Latin American countries. I learned to get to know my local policia, and to compensate them if I needed any special favors. For example, if I was going to return to the States for an extended visit, I would inform the police of my extended absence and also give un regalito (a little gift), usually in the form of cash. I never had any problems with my residence being robbed or vandalized. It pays to establish good relations with the POLICIA/GUARDIA.
Although their work should be for free for the public in general, it always help a little present! Living here is nuts bc we have to get used to it, not many things work, that includes the police’s services! The rest we take it for granted: not extreme weather , cheap fresh produce, mostly non violent ppl, petty crime…
The same with mafia protection. Except you HAVE to pay.
Highly informative with practical pro-tips from the the best humans. Love your content, Monica & Matt. Can’t wait for more. 🇪🇨 ✈️ 🙌🏻
I don't know where you have been, but we call "toilet paper": "papel higiénico."
Exactly what I was thinking.
Lived here in Ecuador for past twelve years. Your video is not very accurate, but everyone has a right to express their opinion. 4/10.
Care to articulate?
Glad to see new content from you guys!! This was awesome
Thank you so much, Joseph! We have lots of good stuff coming up soon, too.
@@TheStatusGo woohoo happy to hear that! I’m coming from Cuenca to Quito in February (dates tbc) as I’ve not been yet. Can I invite you guys for coffee? Would be great to meet other Ecuador UA-camrs
Thank you for your honesty. We've been investigating Ecuador for a while. Some of the youtubers tend to sugar coat things a bit too much. We want the facts just the facts and that's what you've provided. Thanks again.
Check Emilia and JP channel, they are amazing and have been living in Ecuador so believe for 3 years
Lol, we love their videos. They were our #1 source on UA-cam about Ecuador. Big fans.
Looking forward to watch part 2 guys!
We just posted another video a few days ago. Check it out and tell us what you think!
Trust me I walked safer in Ecuador than in Atlanta GA!
We felt the same coming from Miami. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the tips, but please, please, Cuy can only be found in the Highlands. You won't find it in Coastal towns. And even in the Highlands is a bit rare. It is eaten mostly by poor people and by curious Turists. I know this because I am fron Ecuador.
Interestingly enough, the only time we had cuy was in Banos - a coastal town. Go figure!
Didn't know if y'all were still making videos! Looking forward to finish watching this one.
Thank you so much for following our story, Byron! We have some exciting stuff to share again too.
I don't know where you had coffee. There are a LOT of cafeterias where to have excellent coffee. And we have excellent ground coffee for sale in supermarkets.
Especially since Ecuador is a coffee-producing country.
Great video . My wife if from Ecuador and I have visited several times…both with her and on official travel when I was in the US Army.
Ecuador is, indeed, a beautiful and inexpensive country. I do have some comments, though.
Tipping-it is not customary to tip it n Ecuador. In hotels and other places that that cater to Americans, they may expect a tip, however, because they have become used to receiving them. Leaving a few small denomination coins is one thing, but please do not leave more than some small change. They will come to expect it. So, don’t ruin it for others.
Meat- often times raw meat is just left, unrefrigerated, for hours. Whether in a fancy restaurant, a neighborhood shop operated out of someone’s home, or a kiosk on the sidewalk.
Police corruption-do not offer money to police unless they say that you can take care of the infraction then and there. Otherwise, the officer could accuse of bribing him/her and extort even more money from you.
Thanks for your input!
I ve lived in Cuenca for 2 yrs..never had any issues anywhere..Never been food sick either..dont buy at Super Markets only in Tiendas or at TIA ..
holy cow! THE. best information-packed video on Ecuador. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! Check out our new video we posted a few days ago!
Keep posting videos, I enjoy wathicng your experiences in Ecuador and you seem to be a great couple!
We are recently retired and slow traveling between Mexico to Argentina, in search of our favorite retirement city. We are cool weather lovers, but currently in Nicaragua, my wife’s home country. Quito May Big a little big for us so we are probably looking at Cuenca probably, but who knows.
Great video !
great video and i hope you get to meet Jp and Amelia down there, you all have great info and connect to us in the USA real well!
lovely couple ,loved the honest information and feedback and would love to see more videos on Ecuador and the coastal areas
ecuador raw & real
Amazing video! Kudos guys.
Super cool. Good info. We are preparing for six months in Ecuador, starting in early 2023. This is great info presented in a fun way. I spent half a year motorcycling South America and onother half year in Central America, so some of the cultural changes are known. Always good to get reminders, however, as US life clouds the memories.
Thanks a lot for watching. We miss Ecua-deezy so much!
Best ecuador info I have seen. Great job.
Great video guys. I'm from Ecuador and you where thrut it make me smile remembering all those things. . Thanks for being so honest and fun with it,,
Thanks Carmen, we have a special place in our hearts for Ecuador.
When I purchased my new " under construction " condo in Cuenca in 2013, it was mandatory for me to be able to flush toilet paper. Most new construction in Cuenca is to US standards. I had centralized gas (no tanks) and centralized hot water. Never ran out of gas or hot water. My outdoor grill and heater both required propane tanks. Vendors troll the streets. I'd just yell from my balcony, and they would deliver to my condo.
Congrats on the new condo!
These don't sound like the Ecuador I live in well I am in Quito metro area have never seen trash around the metro area got trash bins on every ally roads a very good they clean the city every night the city is so clean IMO
I've seen plenty of trash-ridden streets just in First-World Portland, Oregon.
Excellent video,hope you stay here.
I have been going to Ecuador for over 10 years. A year ago, I made the move and moved to Manta. The biggest mistake of my life. I visited the entire country and loved the COUNTRY OR THE SITES. TO MUCH CORRUPTION. I will not go into detail but I have to plans on going back.
Looking good Matt with the makeover. Thanks for sharing your experience with life in Ecuador. Looking forward to your follow up.
Thank you.
Most informative video on Ecuador I’ve seen.
Thanks H, glad you enjoyed it. Check out our new one!
I can sympathise with some of your findings about Ecuador. For americans coming here and renting or intending to buy a car, something to note, The gas is sold in US gallons, but the gasoline is rated in RON not AKI as in the states, We have Extra at 85 RON which equates to 80 AKI and Super at 95 RON which is 90 AKI. Its the RON number you see on the pumps here. Also theres no self service, or card operated automated pumps. Its usually cash at the pump to the attendant, or by card again by way of the attendant, just tell him how much you want, usually its by price, as in $5 / $10 or "Llena de tanque" Be careful with modern cars, as they will ask if you want it rounding up, that is if its $20.48, do you want $21 worth. Get it wrong and you can have a problem technically with a modern car.)
Peter, great info! All our petrol questions have been answered!
Good information!!
Did you guys had side effects with the meds for altitude? How many days to feel ok? Going to quito.
Hello, just don't abuse the medicine... Ecuatoriana know what to buy in case of stomach ache, head ache, infection, cough etc. Im amazed at that. Yet they prefer to make tea herbal tea for different things... ask at the markets, they will tell you...
Thank you for watching, check out our new one!
You guys are awesome. I love these videos! Very informative for my future visit as well. Ecuador sounds exactly like Peru actually. Which was by the way the best vacation/ experience of my life! I did not have the guts to try Cuy though lol 🤷🏻♀️🤣 Keep it up guys!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
@ Kristy Robles, Ecuador is nothing like peru. Nothing!
Go to Peru and you will think that you noticed your money from the passage to the trash haha you will never want to have gone, unless you like dirty and messy, dusty cities similar to Syria
GREAT enjoy
Darn, I was hoping for the second video but see you've not posted in 7 months. Even though I don't know you, I hope you're well and just enjoying Ecuador too much to post right now.
Just posted another video a few days ago on Trusted Housesitters. Check it out and tell us what you think!
This was a great vid full of cool info for future visitors or residents.
Thanks Aaron! We just posted another video a few days ago!
Ecuador 🇪🇨👉🏻❤to much
This a great video.
What happened with Part 2. ?
I like your video, it is the first video I have watched from your channel. I am Swedish, but considering moving to Ecuador so I am soaking in as much as I can. Like the new cut, it suits you because when I seen your video (first one of your channel), I was wondering if this was a couple video or father and daughter video. Meaning, you lost a few years after the trim.
Lol, thanks for watching! If you love Matt's beard, there's more of it in our last video! Check it out and tell us what you think!
What did you find was the cost for glasses and separately, contacts? I'm considering getting eye surgery before leaving the US to avoid the hassle/cost. Your description states it is more costly for products in Ecuador so.... :) Thanks!
You can get laser surgery here for less, with US educated doctors. In Quito btw., idk abt other cities.
Apologies, we don't remember the exact cost but I think everything was about half the cost as the USA
People are welcome to visit Ecuador but if for any reason someone finds it difficult to adjust you are welcome to leave, I assure you that it won't affect anyone. By the way if you are interested in culture I suggest you reading about our history from prehispanic times to the Spanish conquest it seems to me that it would be an interesting subject. I also share as data that Quito, Cuenca, Galapagos, Yasuni park and a few other sites in Ecuador are recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites.
It's a GREAT VIDEO ABT. EC. TRANSACTIONS

TIPS TO VISITORS & EXPATS
Carry your dollar bills inside a safe belt or flat pouch.
Carry enough change in a small bag or your pockets.
AVOID WALKING AFTER DUSK OUT OF THE CITIES & towns.
We always try to not look like an easy mark. No fancy watches, rings or jewelry when we go out. Questionable neighborhoods we take a ride door to door. Good tips and thanks for watching!
Hey guys, just discovered your videos, great content and advice. I concur about the $1 coins, my pockets are always jangling after I return from the local market. I'm based in Loja making videos for my channel. Have you been that far south, its very beautiful.😉
Great tips, but there are virtual mailboxes people can use than will scan any mail, and email you the contents.
Im pretty sure that probably the weather issue is cause of diffenrent units outside US you probably read 30° and assume farenheit, but we use celsius here 30° C is about 86° F is hot and humidity makes it worst. like today tem there is 25°C so 76°F, we use metric in most of the world so read celsius, distances are in metres or kilometres and bottles are in litres. You need to be aware fo this stuff to avoid going full winter gear to a hot city on la costa.
I agree. The reading of 30 degrees must have been in Celsius,
You guys have cell phones. If you use the weather app. You have to choose from Celsius and Fahrenheit. I just put in on my iPhone. It says 7 Celsius during the day and -1 at night in baños. So he is definitely right. I’ve been in baños many many times. He did mention about people who controlled the weather in Ecuador are just tooooo lazy to move the sensor.
Very much enjoyed your video - glad I found it. Do you find a knowledge of Spanish necessary prior to moving to Ecuador? Also being a senior citizen health care, weather and safety are important to me. I am concerned with the altitude in Quito & Cuenca, is there another location with good health care, weather and safety within Ecuador you would recommend?
Guayaquil
@@lauralynch1944 I've heard horrific personal security stories out of Guayaquil. How do gringos remain safe there?
@@lauralynch1944 Guayaquil is mostly dangerous now..i wouldn't recommend there.
Don't worry about not speaking the language. Definitely try to learn and make an attempt but don't let it discount you from traveling. Google Translate is all you need!

Thank you so much for watching!
Trying to determine exact dates of this video since it refers to Covid restrictions. We are due to arrive in Ecuador in August and thought restrictions were removed there. We have checked flights and some sites and none mentioned restrictions being in place.
Regulates the mercury in your blood? That’s… uh… crazy. Also, for most people taking an anti-altitude sickness meditation isn’t necessary. I go from sea level to Quito at least once per year and don’t suffer altitude problems unless I travel higher and get to the 3500 to 4000m range.
that may be what works for you, but dont tell people they dont need it. You can end up in the hospital with complications from altitude sickness.
great but for the audio. get a couple of microphones that clip onto collars - makes a difference. I was 12 years in Ecuador and your observations are accurate. I love the country.
Getting sick from cooked food is unlikely. It probably was for drinking tap water.
We usually drink a glass of water out of the tap immediately when we get somewhere new to let our stomachs acclimate. This is only done in places where the drinking water is deemed safe. We heard this tip from a travel buddy but have no idea if it works or not.
Hi. Thanks for the video, but what did you say that you used to stop the sickness before travelling to Ecuador? Thank you.
We went to the coast! Our favorites were Montanita and Conoa!
diamox
Y'all are fun.
So why would you ever walk without looking or drive without paying attention?
We just came back from visiting Ecuador. After watching your video, we brought 40 $1 bills and these small bills helped us a lot during our 1-week travel. Thank you!
That's what we love to see!
You should visit the coast, It seems according to the video that you guys stayed in the ecuadorian highlinds
is their a dog poop problem in Cuenca. If you been there.
I have heard that people from the US coming up to Canada have tummy troubles with the food. It's richer and clean. I know when I go down to the US I have nausea from the food because the quality is a lot lower and they have so much more additives and such in their food where here in Canada we are not allowed to have. Maybe that is the reason why people are having tummy issues when they go down to Ecuador? It is higher quality and a shock to your stomach.
WTH u taking about
I once sent my 7 year niece to the corner store to buy a bottle of Bacardi for her aunt. Normal.
Then it makes us realize how strange the alcohol laws are in the USA. Some places can sell beer, but not wine. Wine but not liquor, etc. In Ecuador if you can sell one, you can sell the other. Good stuff.
How is it today
Seeing roasted Guinea pigs is just as shocking for me as seeing a dead fish, turkey, chicken, pork or other animal. We aren’t supposed to be scavengers. 😵💫
Matt: We must admit it took us by surprise as well! We have a two rules when we want to try new food: (1) It should be unique to the region and not widely available anywhere else (2) Shock factor doesn't interest us nearly as much as overall taste.
hello, how is the average weather in terms of sunny, cloudy overcast, rainy, etc? I ask this because every single video I see of Lima Peru is overcast, so is Quito similar?
No Quito tiene las 4 estaciones en un día vea video de Enrique y Alex sobre Quito Lima es nublado llueve muy poco Somos países diferentes
@@silvanavelasco1147 Thank you, I didn't know that. I know once you get to Chile, Argentina and I guess parts of Brazil seasons are opuestas to North America but I don't know much about Ecuadorian climate.
In Quito their is just a rainy (fall) and a dry (spring) season. But the temperature is about the same all year around... and in my mind absolutely perfect! It can get up to 70-73deg during the day and as low as 50deg at night but those are the extremes. Homes in Quito are virtually never even built with heat or AC because it is never needed. Crack a window if you are warm or put on a sweater if you are cool.
As far as cloudiness... yes it is cloudy/overcast about 70% of the time. Quito is in a valley surrounded by snow-capped Andes Mountains so the clouds kind of hover in there. But on the rare occasion it is clear the views are amazing.
But the other cool thing about Ecuador is you can virtually drive to whatever "season" you desire at any time of year. If you want winter- just drive up to the snow capped mountain (very cold year around)... if you want summer- just drive to the coast (very hot year around) or anywhere in between.
Lima is in a coastal desert. Quito is in the mountains with frequent rain showers. Sun does shine
@@calebsmith7520 Thanks for the info. After living in the humid south eastern states for 15 years I'm seeking all of those 'eternal spring' locations. I'd still like to visit Panama and Costa Rica but I don't know if I'd frequent those destinations. First on the list is Antigua Guatemala this summer. I'm targeting Ecuador, Peru during the winter months.
GUINE PIG IS EATEN DEPENDING ON THE REGION. NOT ALL ECUADORIAN EAT GUINEPIG AND NOT ALL REGIONS EAT IT.
I just discovered your channel. Why have you stopped posting after only three videos? I hope you're both well.
We make videos not to make money, but because we enjoy it. When it becomes a chore, we take a break. We just made a new one that we posted a few days ago. Please watch and tell us what you think!
We have coin shortage in LA
I moved here 18 months ago. Definitely keep a couple of twenties in the console of the car. I've needed them 3 times out on the coast. Uber isn't illegal per se, it's just that Ecuador requires a different license type for drivers to run a car related business. If they have a type B like me, they are supposed to charge for a ride. Also, don't forget to warn your subscribers how risk tolerant people are here. They drive dangerously and construction sites look high risk. Very odd to this risk averse American.
and as far as A/C - Guayaquil definitely a need. However, in Machalilla we don't have it, just fans. Haven't missed the A/C. There's a nice sea breeze all the time and it never gets very hot at all here.
More videos 😤.. Please 🤗
You got it. Just uploaded one a few days ago. Best one yet!
There are quite a few inaccuracies in this video. There are many other UA-cam channels making better-informed and more respectful videos about Ecuador.
Obviously, you only drank coffee in northern or coastal Ecuador. The best internationally acclaimed coffee comes from Malacatos, south of Loja. This is in the southern Sierra, south of Cuenca. You missed out on the best of Ecuador...
Matt: You are correct! I wish we knew about Malacatos while we were there. We will be sure to look out for this type of coffee on our next visit back!
What happened to these guys? I like their videos. No recent videos. I hope they're ok.
Where are you all living ?? I’m from Ecuador…
Right now we're back in Miami. Not sure where is next but that's half the fun! Thanks for watching!
About ATM machine is a lie and actually you can get cash in any ATM machine from any bank. And sorry to hear that you got sick 🤢 with the food, since the food is very organic and testy.
My understanding is that there is no natural gas anywhere in Ecuador. Propane is quite common.
Propane is super common! You're right, thanks for watching!
Just wondering if most of what you mentioned is unique to Quito or is common all over Ecuador. Anyway, pretty disappointing stuff.
Each and everyone has different point of views on the places that you visit , I belive you have to be open minded and remembering that were we live it is not the same as the other countries you may visit , or stay or you called your new home , so go to Ecuador or anywhere for that matter and explore the culture and what they are about and enjoy 😉
Uber is only available in Quito and Guayaquil. Two beers $10? Hope you got change. I live in Cuenca and have learned to ignore all weather forecasts. The sidewalks here are for the most part awful. Great steaks at Anubis.
Matt: Haven't checked out Anubis, but love the name. Will definitely check it out next time we're there. Thanks for watching!
Coffee and milk are subjective. I love Ecuadorian milk, it's actual, natural milk, delicious. I consider milk in the US just white water, too processed to still be called milk, just bland. I also like the coffee in Ecuador better. Americans tend to throw more things into their coffee, so that it diverges from its original taste, so same logic... is it still coffee? If you tip some locals won't appreciate it, since it changes expectation. No locals ever do it.
Yep - it's all relative. One of our buddies who we learned most of these tips from is a native of Quito.
60 min ride you expect to cost you 2-3 dollars at 10 pm at night? of course will cost you $60 from that place to Quito
really? I'm from Quito and I pay everything with card in the city, and ATMS are everywhere, even in small towns. En serio? yo vivo en Quito y pago todo con tarjeta en la ciudad, cajeros hay en todas partes, incluso en los pueblos pequeños.
Quito wasn't so much of a problem. It was the smaller towns like Montanita that were a little disconnected from others. It would be a shame to order a meal and not be able to pay for it due to lack of cash.
Thank you for the great video
Can you please talk about families with teens moving there from USA or Canada?
We would love to live in Cuenca but not sure if our 16 years old daughter has a future there
Stay safe❤️
Thank you
I’ve been considering traveling there, the CUY is holding me back
@A Matie, why would you feel forced to eat Cuy? I'm Ecuadorian and I have never eaten Cuy nor will I ever, even if they put a gun to my head.
@@puttytat007 thanks for the feedback. I had the impression it was a staple.
I love eating cuy, it´s delicious, but it´s very expensive, and it´s sold in few places. It´s hard to find a place where it is sold.
@@fmoscosot really, data shows in Peru 65 million are eaten a year. I image it’s similar in Ecuador.
@@amarie3309 actually I don't hace any data, it's just My experiencie as a customer. In restaurants it si the most expensive dish. But there is a Lot of people that live in rural zone, (in the highlands) and they grow them to eat them, not to sell them, maybe that can make the numbers similar to Perú
Too many people on the 'go' fail to grasp the very basic of living outside your familiar paradigm. Foreign countries are called 'foreign' because they are foreign. The obvious challenges are language, politics, education, religion, food, customs, courtesy (or lack of it), honesty, criminal activities, economics, how the legal system works ($), poverty, and distrust. It's different sometimes to the extreme. Foreign adventurers who migrate typically don't stay long and cluster in the English bar scene and English speaking anything. It is not like anything you thought you knew from You Tube and the media telling you it's is heaven. Before you migrate to anywhere in the world my best advise is learn the language first. The challenge of not speaking or understanding at all levels is usually the ultimate 'deal' breaker.
Wow, the last part really devolved into some evil shit but appreciate most of the video.
Matt: Yep - we call 'em how we sees 'em!
Hello..to bith of u visiting..??..
you probably had it on celcius lol
Hi police corruption?....in Peru next door its kind of the same, although cheaper he he he because only Ecuador uses the US dollar which is more costly. Here normally foreign tourist are not targeted by police for a automotive related bribe, they let them go, just speak English and they will let you go. If you come to Lima I can show you around and will invite you a Pisco Sour, enjoy Ecuador it's a nice country, our neighbours.
I think you would find Peru cheaper for everything, rents, trips and goods, besides Peru is king when it comes to foodies.
Powerful stuff!!! This content needs Promo'SM!
I still prefer Costa Rica. It's less "third world."
I found Costa Rica to be about the same prices as Denver. Not a lot of price savings for geo-arbitrage. Safe and nice, however. Felt like Latin America with training wheels though. Easy to make lovely friends at hotels in San Jose, however. ;-)
An informative video, but with poor sound, not helped with the background-added muzak.
I recommend not eating on the street, it is not hygienic. I'm from here, and I don't. Recomiendo no comer en la calle, no es higiénico. Yo soy de aqui, y no lo hago.
We agree. Unless it's famous, generally skip it.
