What a find your video is! During the mid 60s, my father did a lot of business connected with the Government in Malta. As a result my family and I enjoyed many happy family holidays there. I was only seven years old on those trips, and this video has reminded me of many of the place names. I can remember a trip to Gozo very well, and also the secluded bungalow close to St Paul’s Bay we used for the holidays. I can also remember the trips on the BEA Comet jets between London airport, and Luqa. Sadly my Dad is no longer here, but I still have the many photos he took back then, and the memories of those happy days.
I visited in 2004. The vintage buses were still rolling as were the old Mercedes taxis. The girls were plentiful and the weather was lovely. I had a whole lot of fun!
Such familiar scenes... I so miss the Malta and Gozo of this era... Shedding a few nostalgic tears here as I reminsce on the years I lived on Gozo during the 60s and 70s. Thank you, Allessandro, for posting this amazing footage 👍👌👏
I visited Malta and Gozo in 2023 for the first time. This Video shows me, how unique and beautiful these Islands were, many years ago. In present time, its mostly dirty, ugly and overpopulated. Its kind of a shame, what happend to this ancient beauty.
Malta was a very different place in the 70s even 80s to what it has become. Sad to see the deterioration that has taken place over the last 40 odd years. I used to visit the Islands every other year, but not any more I am sorry to say. I think the politicians and business people, both local, and foreign, have helped ruin what was once a very peaceful and pleasant place to visit or live in.
Sadly I have to agree with you. My first visit was in 1988, sharing the aircraft with Don Mintoff! I have returned many times, the changes are immense. It is no longer the Island I fell in love with.
This brought back so many memories of my time in Malta 60 years ago, 1960-64. The shots of Balluta and St Julians include the Neptune water polo club which was right in fron of where I lived...Narvik Flats, Bay Junction. Thank you for the trip down memory lane...it was quite emotional. I wish my parents could have seen it.
So much has been lost. I know that we need to move forward but too much of what was Malta has been buried under concrete. The gem has lost its sparkles.
Thankyou for sharing this. Really great to see Malta & Gozo as they were. Being born in the 60s & coming from England I've only ever seen Malta & Gozo this century. I hope to return soon. Many thanks. 😀👍🍀
Hi, thanks for sharing this video, at 27:23 it is the building of the Water Distillation plant of Hondoq ir-Rummien, and the bay from where they were dumping the stones onto the boat is at Hondoq too, even the quarry.
My grandparents lived in Malta in the late 60s early 70s. I used to visit them from the UK during the school holidays. Flying in on Vanguards and Tridents.
Well done Mr. Bajada for this video accompanied by very nice music. It is very relaxing and enjoyable to watch. PROSIT!! Could someone tell me where is the chapel @ 34:00?
Great job: I think I saw the date 69 on a shop facade in Valletta. Do you by any chance have a clip showing the guardroom right before the stairs down to Fort Lascaris? On St Anthony Bastions, below the Upper Barakka? Thanks
here is some old cine film footage of malta in the 70s found in my mums beleongings after she passed away 2 years ago if it is of interest to anyone. It was took on holiday when i was 2. ua-cam.com/video/eqS9GYyx-oo/v-deo.html
I'm watching this video second by second, one of the rarest (I think) testimonies of Malta before the terrible building boom of the last 30 years. Needless to say, most of the places are no longer recognizable. But from other points of view, judging from the few people appearing in the video, it is evident that most of the Maltese people lived in poverty and that the splendor of the economic boom present instead in Western Europe had not yet passed through Malta.
Visited Malta recently and I must say it seems to be going down the same path as Ireland, chasing the mighty Euro. Soon, like Ireland it will be too expensive for the average Maltese person to afford a home. Banking, e-commerce and politicians lining their pockets. Beautiful country but be careful of too rapid progress.
The first song is from the playlist ‘Bluesy’ on Apple Music. The second one is called ‘Soul and Mind’ by Bertysolo. Those will get you headed in the right direction.
Bellissime Malta e Gozo in quegli anni! Ormai è una palla di cemento senza freni. Divertimentificio a poco prezzo. Che peccato! Ci sono tornato dopo 30 anni e sono rimasto profondamente deluso e sconcertato. Progresso? Bah!
Tragic. The Maltese have destroyed their islands. Things have to change over time of course, but not like this. What a legacy they leave for their children.

The country is literally loosing its maltese people
From a person who lived in Malta in the early 70s i 100% agree, its a tragedy spurned by greed.

A fantastic view of how Malta and Gozo used to be. Particularly enjoyed the shots of Mgarr being built.. thanks for the upload.
WE moved to Malta just under three years ago. Love the place and the people, great to see what Ballutta Bay and Spinola looked like back in the day
Beautiful. How Màlta has changed. Wish it could still be like the 60s now.

I see there was a clip of the T80 Radar at RAF Madliena, I was there 68-70, and had the pleasure of "driving" it now and again.

Paradise lost. At the expense of many for the benefit of the chosen few. Because.....Malta!!
Superb
Biggest tragedy is how Xlendi has been ruined...

Some sold their their beautiful island out of greed. But I am glad to find the Maltese people still good people
Malta how I remember it as a kid before uncontrolled foreign investment took over now Silema looks like Beirut.
1960s!!
