    Taking some notes, don't mind me
    rhetorical question: to get the audience thinking about a particular idea
    facts: evidence to support their point
    opinion: opposite of facts
    repetition: emphasize it and make it stand out to the audience
    helps to convey the message
    emotive language: evokes an emotion in the audience ->guilt, anger etc
    expert opinion: convinces because it's authority's opinion
    statics: data -> should be believed, reinforce the perception that the speaker knows their stuff therefore should be believed
    triples: groups of words
    imperative: command, what to do -> instructions to take action, effectively persuades the audience

    I'm saving this in a private playlist so that I can go back to this to help integrate each bit of information into my consciousn and long term memory. I'll have some troubles understanding others because I am autistic but learning these techniques will surely help me out from these social and communication deficits and difficulties.

    I've seen all of these techniques put as techniques in abstract. I know there are thousands more - but remembering them is a challenge! I love the way you have brought a very effective selection of them together as a colour palette of choices. People trying to persuade would be hard pressed not to find one or two persusaive techniques to fit a situation in your selection. Great video. Thank you for posting.

      I suppose it could be written in that way. But DAFORESTI is more concise and, most likely, easier to accurately remember.

    don’t mind me take some notes here:
    - Direct address: Use of more direct words
    - Anecdote: Story from personal life
    - Facts
    - Opinion
    - Rhetorical question: (“How can we do something like this”)
    - Repetition: Using the same choice of words
    - Emotive language: Use of words to make you feel certain emotions
    - Expert Opinion: The opinion of an expert
    - Statistics: Average (Mean, mode, medium, range etc…)
    - Triples
    - Imperatives: Provide a solution or advice

    My teacher said the A stood for Alliteration so like R & E it seems to have 2 meanings, I say this is a crappy acronym if you have to remember multiple meanings, acronyms are supposed to shorten text, not take on multiple meanings. I'd say a better acronym is ARA? I DEFOREST, not perfect but does follow the "Triples" technique.

      @EnglishWithWatson  3 роки тому

      Hi Zahlia. There is a playlist of videos that I put together during lockdown that covers different year groups and topics. These had been made to specifically support students at the school I teach at, but you may find some of them helpful.

  • @FuzzyDPozzy
    @FuzzyDPozzy 3 роки тому +1

    I thought A stands for alliteration no?

    • @EnglishWithWatson
      @EnglishWithWatson  3 роки тому +1

      It can stand for that, too, although you're more likely going to use an anecdote in persuasive writing than alliteration (unless you use it for a newspaper headline or subheadings).
