Saw it 2013... and nothing. Had to experience on myself what depression is, to watch it again 2023, to see notice, to understand everything overseen those days...to learn appreciate the movie as truly masterpiece
I love how this movie showed you the ending in the intro of what's gonna happen and yet for some reason, watching the film, you're still hoping that somehow for some reason the planet wasn't gonna hit.
Saw this movie about a couple of months ago with one of my best friends. I broke down in tears like never before when it was finished. I have suffered from clinical depression for almost three years now and i think what really hit me, was how accurate this is on depicting depression. Life moves slow. Time runs fast. You want to feel better. You also want everything to end. Melancholia is the perfect metafore for that. Its great that through art, we can create solidarity of understanding to strengthen the concept of mental health.
sorry, I thought the comments were translated from Russian. I wrote that your point of view is interesting, and I also thought about it in this direction. I was going through a mild stage of depression, and you clearly described it with the thoughts that I was trying to describe this process to myself.
@@Ich_Mayvel Im sorry to hear that. Depression fucking sucks and it also leads other things with it witch are hard to untangle. But i am a firm believer that you can heal from pretty much everything with the right amount of time and the right tools. Have you searched out for help, yourself? If you dont mind me asking if course
depression is over, I went to the doctors and they prescribed me some pills and injections. It was a hard road and I am proud that I was able to walk it. I hope your depression is over too 🙏
+Lautaro Rios take it easy on the girl. maybe she doesn't know that this movie is about the end of the world and death. maybe she doesn't even know what nibiru is and what is capable of doing to the human race.
You're the ONLY one who I've seen has posted the accurate description of what this movie is about. People don't realize that she is "gifted", not depressed, like her mother. People keep throwing depression and bi-polar into the mix, not realizing the dilemma Justine has with the particular gifts she possesses, especially with this event coming to pass. Thank you!
Interesting. I saw a different movie... it's so good and open we all get different things out of it. To me it explores how Justine suffers before the planet shows up but can make sense of the end of the world while people that appeared to be well adjusted to deal with reality in the first part (her sister) lose the plot. In this way she doesn't perceive the planet as much as... she was always living in a world where it was there. The dream reading you give that she is depressed because she perceives the end makes sense too, it reminds me of one of the possible readings of Tristan und Isolde, where people theorize that what they drink is both a love potion and poisson so they die at the beginning of the story and the rest is like a dream of love while they die.
@@ximoperis7476 EXACTLY why the director used that music for this movie. BRILLIANT movie (for those who are capable of exploring it). The visuals are captivating, the relationships are scripted brilliantly... nuanced, stressed, bittersweet (like real life, not just acting). It took me 2 to 3 sittings to fully, fully enjoy it.
@@johnathanmphoto yes, same as T&I it has different readings. I also found the movie more watchable as I rewatched. First time I enjoyed more thinking about it than watching it, it stayed with me. After rewatching the first half no longer was a painful wait for things to get interesting.

That's the genius of it. It instantly sets us in the mood of the depressed main character who expects the worst to happen
I really hoped it did hit. Finality.

One of the best films I ever saw! Great soundtrack great director great artists performance..
The worst thing is when you realize the earth is the small planet.
Wouldn't matter if it was the bigger planet genius 😂 same result

best film oat. insane selection of music to depict the inminent inevitability of the supreme possibility: death.
Finally this is the only video of the opening of the movie on UA-cam that doesn’t freaking pitch shift the song, ty :)
My man Lars knows how to post a prelude and be dramatic as shit without breaking a sweat
My co-favorite soundtrack ever. I love the soundtrack for 'My Brilliant Friend' as much.
El prologo mas sublime en la historia del cine. Lars Von Trier Genio filmico actual.
Love this film music holds the ending ❤

Very beautiful indeed, not everyone will think of this as their cup of tea. But to others it is surely a delicious one.
One of the best ways to go.
Brutal and amazing Lars
And Wagner's Tristan und Isolde became film.
Anos mais tarde entendi do que este filme fala . Depressão.

These scenes with this music.
This is fucking disturbing.. yet so beautiful
Could someone explain to me each scene in this prologue and what it represents?

I hate to be perceived as ‘elitist’, but, (based mostly on UA-cam comments) this film seems to be appreciated and understood only by ‘the 1%’.
