  • Learn how to create a foundation for your art making, give your paintings greater visual impact, add value to your work and make your paintings look more professional for shows, exhibitions or gallery representation.
Get David's step-by-step teaching to move beyond mere amateur status. Use these tips, tools and strategies that professional artists use to make their work look amazing.
    Dear Friends,
My goal for painting is to create fresh, loose paintings that are grounded with a foundation of design. What if your paintings were built on a foundation of design fundamentals that created paintings with greater visual impact? What if your work looked more professional? What if you could mix fresh, clean color and kiss muddy paintings goodbye forever?
That's exactly what we need as artists. That's exactly what I can help you do.
I want to teach YOU how to design a painting. I want to teach YOU how to make your work stand out in an exhibition. I want to teach YOU how to have greater success as a painter.
That's WHY you need this course.
If your goal is to make well designed paintings with greater visual impact then I can help you get there faster. I've spent the last 25 years developing these tips, tools and strategies.
In this course I'll teach you:
5 Design Fundamentals that you need to master to develop paintings with greater visual impact.
How to begin thinking about "shapes" rather than "things."
What values are and how to properly implement them in your work.
How to create a foundation for all of your art making.
How to mix fresh, clear color with no muddy color mixes.
How to use the color wheel to develop color harmony in all of your paintings.
    Simplify your approach to painting.
Merge your edges to let the viewer's eye move uninhibited through your paintings.
3 ways to develop a strong center of interest and why you need at least one.
    And much, much more.
Design Fundamentals for the Artist is not media specific. All who use acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel are encouraged to participate.
The course is accessible wherever you are on all your devices: phone, tablet, laptop, desktop or TV (if wifi enabled).
Sign up for Design Fundamentals for the Artist right now and you'll get:
12 video online course that has the same core design fundamentals instruction as a 5 day live workshop event. ($800 value)

Thank you so much. I love watching you paint and I learn so much from these bite sized videos. My mother is an interior designer and I learned a lot from working with her, but she never understood the art side of things. Putting them together in this way makes it so clear. Thanks again.

Hi David, Love your Videos. I learnt Visual Design Fundamentals in my Bachelor of Arts Degree at Uni. It was my first module in that degree. I am so glad I learnt these skills early on in my career. I am in Australia by the way.

Christine D thank you. Design Fundamentals are critical to learn and implement and the earlier you learn them, the easier it will be to be a successful artist. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Thank you for sharing. These points would apply to any kind of art is that correct?.
. Glad I found you. As a make up artist I understand the concept of highlights and lowlights the same will apply to painting on a flat surface is my understanding.

Dear David, I'm so happy I reached to your channel. I adore your manner explane, it makes me feel so close. Thank you!
A question, please, ¿Does Abstract Academy includes the colour module and de Design Foundation or they are separate (complementary) courses? Thank you! I just want to choose the better way to begin. Thank you again.

Svitlana, thanks for watching. Abstract Painting Academy includes Design Fundamentals. It includes a module on color, but it is not as in-depth as All About Color.

Thank you, David. So, now I'll begin with a All About Colour course. I'm so exciting about it.

Hi David. I just found you this late evening. Now i have happy bobbles in my heart. I am 73 years and trying to catch up with 5 years at the Academy of Art (painting and sculpture). Is it too late? Can I find an answer to the BIG "why" I should try. It is so long time since I have heard so good words about art. I am so happy. Thank you from Denmark.

Lime Tree it’s never too late. 5 years sounds like a long time st your age, but whatever you think is best for you. Best wishes.

Well, I se that I did not put it wright. Sorry. I finished the 5 years at the Academy in 1971 when I was 27 !!!! Yes it is SO long time ago - and now the little panic feeling is : have I anything to express. Can I find a well/ source inside me? But I found your videos and you and your energy inspired me. Thank you. And you are right: it is never too late. (Sorry for my poor language/expression).
