Play with me and switch between IMPROVISATION and COMPING!
ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE is a great jazz standard, and we are going to be jamming together on it as if we were in a live situation!!
You can DOWNLOAD my transcription of the theme here:
    www.pietroball...
I suggest you memorize the melody and the chord progression.
You can start playing the theme and the first chorus of solo, then we are going to switch and take a solo for TWO CHORUSES each.
It's really simple: you play the chords, and I improvise.
Then I play the chords and you improvise!
At the end you can play the theme again one more time.
VERY IMPORTANT: pay close attention to the drums, especially when you are comping and I'm soloing, because that's going to be your main reference for the rhythm and for the structure.
This the the most important exercise: always LISTEN!
Choose the style you prefer for your comping! From simple straight chords played in quarter notes, to the use of some seventh chords inversions, or extensions. Until the use of the walking bass + chords technique, if you already know how to do that (I am planning to cover this very interesting topic in the future in the lessons of my guitar course).
This interactive play along is best for guitar, piano, bass, vibes, or any other harmonic instrument... But it can also be used by saxophone or trumpet players, clarinet etc. Horns players: you should play a counterpoint line when I'm soloing!

Great! I play on it with the accordion and it's perfect to practice soloing and comping. Bravo!

I find these interactive backing tracks are excellent for practising jazz tunes and far better than the average play-along videos scattered around the web.
Furthermore, although the website is mainly meant for guitarists, these tracks are extremely useful for bassists too because they allows us to practise both basslines and solos in a context that's pretty close to 'the real thing'.
I'll tell you what: the only way it can get even better than this is to play with Pietro himself! 😉
