Honestly, through a period of 5 years, from the very first lesson of the "DAMN FINE TUTORIAL" to various reviews about a specific products or even the mysterious science behind methods of brewing, with no marketing, no such thing as persuading viewers to purchase low quality products, we feel that from the bottom of our heart you have and have been dedicate all of your knowledge, your understanding only to broaden our minds with distinguished lessons, to popularized the third wave coffee to everybody, despite the harsh trials throughout those years. Although one day you might quit making UA-cam, I am still believe that anybody who had waited till Friday for those valuable lessons, for priceless experiences would always support you. Wish you all the best

binged many channels when they were smaller and then they grew, having more people involved with bigger projects etc. the overall quality of production improves quite a lot but the authenticity sadly vanishes.

I found your channel around covid times along with Papa Hoffman. You two really helped me grow my passion for coffee.
My house was making its own beer and wine through covid and I quickly realised I couldn't spend everyday drinking like a lunatic.
I always liked coffee, but never knew much about the specialty side of things.
I have fallen in love with coffee so much thanks to you in particular.
Thank you so much for that spro

Thank you so much for this update. I appreciate all the work you do and actually not pushing product.
I do notice that when new coffee gear is put out, a lot of coffee influencers put out videos at the same time, but I don’t see you and your channel do the same. Thank you for that because it does feel like we’re being sold something especially when their title for every single coffee review has “END GAME…on it” 😂
As much as I enjoy product reviews, I like to learn about coffee, see and learn about new coffee shops and coffee in general, and how to brew using different types of equipment.
Also excited for a podcast as well. Something I can listen to while I work.
Lastly, the ASMR videos capture how I feel when I make coffee in the morning. It’s a peaceful ritual to start the day. Although most days for me are messy trying to dial in coffee.
Anyway, long post. Just want to say thank you and I will continue to support your work.

Hey man! Here to support you through those changes. Your videos helped spark an interest in specialty coffee early on in the pandemic, which eventually got me to get my first barista job, propelling me out of the hell that was the fast-food industry. I've now been to several local coffee events, industry expos, met so many amazing people, and have been able to make a career out of managing a small cafe.
Even though our experiences within the industry are vastly different and I can't relate to making youtube videos specifically, burnout is real and I've suffered through it too. It can be so difficult to not to overwork yourself when you love what you're doing. Glad to hear you'll be making more of the content you personally enjoy and focusing on the things that you like to do! Best of luck dude, and thank you for what you've done so far.

I can hear your voice waver a bit in certain moments because, understandably, it's clear that the pressure from this job can be a bit relentless. But as a viewer, it's invigorating to hear you speak like this as it reminds us (your audience) that you're not just a content producer but a person with your own life, needs and, ultimately, perspective. I relate, thanks for sharing. I started my UA-cam channel for my passion, fun, side business sure but mainly driven by passion because that's what keeps me going (the money is less than minimum wage when I total the energy and hours I pour in) and a lot of viewers followed me for coffee and I started to feel this pressure. Since this isn't my full time income I persisted in doing what drives me most (with what the viewers want in the back of my mind) and it's been better for my passion/mental health. I was posting weekly for 2 years straight which was a lot, I don't even know how I managed, then took a step back and now post every 2, maybe 3 weeks and drive on quality always instead of quantity. It's a difficult but necessary choice

Videos that month are less scripted, more off the cuff, less researched, detailed, etc, and less “professional” - as in less polished and generally lighter, even slightly goofy. Maybe that’s the way to take breaks here and there, while still feeding the algorithm and keeping the content interesting and still worth watching. Doing other coffee content, like “coffee walks,” or whatever, will probably help too. It’ll keep it fresh, and as they say, “change is as good rest.”

Thank you. Your content quality and delivery format relaxes my brain and lets me enjoy a passion for great quality espresso. You inspire me.
Can I just warn, if you disable Patreon to have only UA-cam on your plate. It’s a very “eggs in one basket” approach if someone were to copyright strike/troll and grief your channel, you might then be lacking some redundancy of income as a trade off.
Thank you for EVERYTHING over the past 5 years. It’s shaped who I am today.

I look forward to the changes in your channel. Your transparency has always kept me here and will continue to. You're an awesome creator but it has to go both ways. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that your content will change based on what you feel you need and where you fit in the real of coffee enthusiasts on UA-cam. I look forward to joining the community and continuing to watch and support you.

Your videos and styles are refreshing and I also enjoy your honesty. Take care of yourself first, and we'll be here for whatever you've got to share. The cinematic style vids are also really fun.
I think you're too hard on yourself though! You can do affiliate links and sponsorships or play around with different revenue streams. What I mean is that, I (and I think most others) will trust that you're not trying to swindle us or make a quick buck and will be unbiased. You share a lot of really useful advice and 100000% deserve to reap any benefits. It's ok to play the game. :)

    Smart, smart move.
I had a travel blog years ago. Loved travelling, loved writing, so combining the two was win win... except I started to lose the enjoyment and experiences, as everything I did was thinking of writing it up. The photographs were about what to post... not about why I enjoyed it in the first place. I lost sight of that and ruined it for myself. I ended up stopping entirely.
I didn't have the sensibility you're showing here. So, well done, you.
Look forward to whatever you come up with going forward.

Hi man, I know lots of youtubers complain about views, algorithms... I don't have an answer to the decrease of views but speaking by myself, I can say that yt changes their recommendations to me from time to time. Either because I Starr getting interested and search more for a particular topic, or because something more relevant happens and gets more views for local viewers... I've been getting much more recommendations of your videos lately, probably because I've seen a couple of your videos. And yes, I watched them fully and enjoyed them. I really appreciate your content, you don't beat around the bushes, go straight to the point and have a really relevant content. On the burnout. it's getting more and more common nowadays and I know how that is. I hope you get better and better, even if that means you're not producing so many cool vids of coffee. Take care man.🤜🏼🤛🏻

I’m going through something similar now, and have in the past. After 20 years, I left an industry that held no passion for me and stressed me out. It did (mostly) pay for my house. Once the mortgage was small enough, I quit and started a manual labour job, at a substantial pay cut. A job I had in high school and put me through University. And I loved it. An opportunity to become a department manager about 4 years ago came up and with two kids about to enter University (in Canada, this is merely expensive and not “lifetime debt” expensive), I decided more money would be good. And for 2 years things were. Recent changes in the company have made the last two years terrible. I went from working 40 hours a week to 55 and occasionally even 60. For the same money. And my boss (and his) are still not happy with my department.
To cope I suck back a couple of pints after work every day. And for the last month or two, when I get up, I almost never have the energy to make a proper coffee! I’ve mostly gone back to the Keurig (gasp) that was my daily driver prior to discovering Specialty coffee about 18 months ago! Heavily laced with hot chocolate, to be able to choke it down. So about a month ago, I updated my résumé and start looking elsewhere. In retrospect, I can’t believe I’ve let it go so long. So I guess we have that in common, too.
As my mother is so fond of saying, “Work to live, don’t live to work.” I look forward, as always, to your future content. “Different” doesn’t mean “bad.”

You are the best home barista coffee channel on UA-cam. Hoffman and Hedrick are great, but for people who are just brewing at home, I trust this channel more than any other for the honest and relatable feedback. Your videos aren’t 10 hours long and don’t feel like a giant production, just honest thoughts and reviews. I hope you keep the channel going and it would be awesome to see a podcast, maybe with people that aren’t just all high-profile coffee professionals, but other home baristas, local roasters, people like that.
I personally would totally listen to a podcast of just people that love coffee talking about things they like. Keep up the great work!

Hey man, this is my very first comment on one of your videos. I am a weekly consumer of your content and have been for the past few years now, ever since the very beginning of my coffee journey. I felt compelled to comment because this video and your ability to be transparent and vulnerable should be applauded. You don’t owe any of us an apology by any means. Your well-being is top priority above all. I hope you can find some comfort in me stating that you have most certainly contributed to my personal enjoyment of coffee and your die-hard fans, like myself, admire your needs and wants to continue feeling the same. I think everything you mentioned and all of the changes you announced will certainly help and we will certainly continue to be here to support you through those changes. You have an army of real people on the other end of this digital world that understands your struggles as a human being and we are here and willing to work with you on overcoming them. Never give up on your channel, but more important please never give up on your personal well-being above all. It pains me to hear about these struggles and I’m excited to watch your future videos related more towards the enjoyment surrounding coffee vs gear, which we all need to rid ourselves of FOMO from anyways! (:

I recognise the issues that you describe. Not personally, I'm not a content creator, but in one of my other life passions (board games) I have seen this a lot. There have been multiple approaches to addressing the issue, including going almost fully commercial (the "safe" but low respect model), doubling down on crowdfunding (the opposite of what you're doing), and morphing the channel to include new types of content. Results vary. I can't afford to support all the creators whose content I consume (I actively follow 20 channels and another 80 in a more passive mode), but the main model for those "all in" as content creators, or as creators with a side job in "consulting", the main model seems to be Patreon + Commercially Sponsored Content. I wish you every success in your future endeavours.
