Everybody knew the Pelicans were going to take next year's pick. It's a choice between taking a kid that will probably top out as a rotation player, or a lottery ticket for Cooper Flagg. Given that the Lakers were remarkably healthy last season and still were mediocre, and not likely to improve, the choice was easy.
Bronny James will be the next Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Who? He will ride the bench over a more deserving player until it's garbage time.

ESPN’s mock draft in June 2023, before the cardiac arrest, had Bronny James at 17; look it up. Lakers take him at 17. Basketball IQ is important and he learned from the best.
