    By far the best exposition of Drypoint. Very detailed: a perfect beginners guide that would be of value to a more value to someone with more experience too. You are a lovely entertaining teacher and thank you for showing how and why things don't go right and why. Thank you.

    You’re an awesome person, this was probably the most wholesome and genuine and educational videos I’ve ever watched. It was a breeze to watch all the way through, even though it was an hour long. Breath of fresh air content wise on UA-cam in years, unlike all of the 1 minute shorts and 10min videos on here.

      Yes! I did litho in art school, but haven't had the chance to do it again since you need to have access to a pro shop. One of my colleagues in Boston runs an amazing litho shop, I'm hoping some day we have the budget for me to go and film there! -Prof Lieu

    This video is monumentally detailed and entertaining at the same time. That's not an easy feat to achieve. It's not an accident that most printmakers love everything about print making, except printing. That's why the big shot print artists send their work away to an atelier to have the work printed. For the rest of us, we just have to put up with the frustration, but also the elation when you pull a great print. Thank you to the generous donor who made this video happen.

    Hi I'm an intermediate printmaker and have been taught in a university and the local studio setting. I have to say your introduction to drypoint and printing at home is very concise and enjoyable to watch. I've done a variety of techniques in regards to intaglio but never drypoint work so this video was a great visual and informative of how the bur works and more importantly the degradation of it over time! Thanks again, definitely subscribing.

    The only thing I would say, because you hit everything really well, with great enthusiasm, is an A.P. is a preparatory state of the print, before it is considered a finished work; which is why there is only print in that particular state of the printing process. It is a proof for the artist, i.e., A.P. And it is kept as a test piece for further development. Sometimes sold for a lower price than a finished piece.

I am new to this process and actually found my way over here while researching and learning about alternative photographic printmaking processes. etchings on plexiglas have the advantage, that is it doesnt degrade like metal plate would,, you can make very large editions.. you could make hundreds of prints before it would become unusable. i get that one would think of an acrylic plate as an inferior material somehow, but i think it holds ink really really well, though i dont know exactly how it fare in a side-by-side comparison with a copper plate.

    Clara, this was amazing! Thanks so much for this, going through the process in so much detail. As a novice printmaker, I appreciate the amount of work it takes. I could relate to your frustration or giddyness after observing the result of the print. I appreciated your brief explanation about signing editions. I would love to know more about this: it is hard to find info on the many signatures and many types of editions there are. I have so many questions about what makes an edition: is using a different paper a new edition? A different colour? So many questions! Thanks again for all the effort put into this video. Great shots and edition 📸 -it takes lots of work BTS and it deserves to be appreciated 👍👍👍👍

    • @bluewren65

      Yes, using a different paper or a different colour would be a different edition.

    What a fantastic post! Even as someone who has been printmaking for quite a few years now this was quite informative…..the use of an alternate print bed in particular. My heavy metal bed has come close to causing an injury at times. I switched from etching to drypoint due to the Immediacy of the technique and plastic is my preferred plate. It’s less stressful on the hand and being able to see my drawing thru the plastic is a major plus. I so felt your pain trying to get even an acceptable print…..so many factors involved! Is it the roller pressure, is the paper too wet or too dry? Over inking or not enough needle pressure? Getting that perfect print is ultimately what makes it so satisfying!

    • @artprof
      @artprof  2 роки тому

      I have to find a printmaking technique that's not rough on my hand! With tedious artmaking like that it's easy to get repedative injuries :( We're so glad you found a way that's working for you!! Thanks for watching :) - Mia, Art Prof Staff

      @@artprof I use the printmaking plastic that is about 1.5 millimetres thick rather than the heavier perspex. It’s a lovely surface to work on but I imagine the quality of print degrades a tad quicker than perspex. I only ever do limited edition print runs anyway…….sometimes only 10 or 15.
