no, I don't think that's the case. Australian top order struggled this whole year. Marnus, smith, khawaja, even head (apart from 3 great innings against India). their bowling is not that lethal this year compared to last year as stars & cummins struggled a bit. No offense but Australian side looked a bit dull tis year. (according to me)

Harsha I would have picked Alex Carey has the wicket keeper, he has 43 dismissals this year compared to Rizawan's 15, Rizwan is at No 10 in the number of dismissals this year, though I am a pick fan of Rizwan and his hitting skills, I feel when we choose a WK we should go by their number of dismissals than their batting record, in fact Alex Carey has been good with the bat this year. I would have also chosen Hazlewood who averages 13.6 which is better than Bumrah. Hazlewood and Matt Henry have a better average, and better strike rate than Atkinson.
Yes, Alex Carey is a better choice for WK. Regarding Hazzy, I think Henry has better stamina and can bat too. Even Pat Cummins would be better choice in place of Rabada.

Once Bumrah and Rabada are out of attack, this bowling attack is easier to deal with. I would have gone with Atkinson in place of Jadeja, and included Cummins, he is very close to Bumrah in bowling in my opinion

Instead of Jadeja I would be going with Santner because of the amount of work he has put in the entire year, especially in sub-continent pitches where he worked tirelessly against Sri Lanka and reaped rewards for his consistency in the series against India.

Harry Brook didnt come to India hence I would prefer Kamindu Mendis ahead of him. Marco Jansen replaces Harry Brook. Jadeja comes at 7 and Jansen at 8. I dont have the exact numbers of Jansen but I think he has had a very good year with the ball and decent with the bat. I am picking him as seam bowling allrounder. Of All seam bowling allrounders he may had the best year. Ravi Chandran Ashwin will be the 12th player who replaces Jansen for spin friendly conditions. You may consider making a XII member side from next year because the bowling balance depends conditions. Another point from your side's perspective Joe Root is actually a decent bowler and he bowled a lot in India, in essence in your team Joe Root is the alrounder.
Brook hasnt been tested much on spinning wickets..he is a good player of attacking cricket but i really wanted to see him against ashwin and jadeja in india earlier this year..... He also struggled in IPL 2023 due to spin

Not with Latham, Cummins and Stark it won't. Stokes really only performed as an all rounder in New Zealand. Head is really hit and miss. He either scores big or goes early. No consistency.

If he had converted 2 of those to 50's and 3 of the originals to 50's and made another hundred against the other 3, I would definitely consider him.
Great team Harsha, as usual. I would actually like to have Pat Cummins in place of Atkinson and I will give him captaincy too. Prime reason is that Cummins just carries that flair with him to lead the team from the front and of course he is a heck of a bowler.

A lot of this team picked itself. I wondered about Jamie Smith as keeper and one of my first thoughts as bowlers was Hazelwood. Happy to see Jadeja and Rabada in as they often fly under the radar and has not popped into my head. Of Harsha’s spin options, I was tempted with Maharaj just to squeeze 4 platters who played for Yorkshire in, but Jadeja is one of my favourites! 😜

As much as I think Harsha Bhogle is one of the best cricket journalists of all time in cricket. There not being a single Australian player in that team when they are arguably one of the best sides in the world with players like Cummins, Head and staff doing really well this year. I think sometimes we need to put ourselves past stats and look at the facts.

He gave an explanation for not picking up head... also it's a team of 2024 and kamindu mendis is the best batsman this year overall.... there is no better no3 than Williamson rn, you can check his 2024 stats also..... Cummins didn't do individually well this year... could have picked Hazelwood but Atkinson did showed some class this year and he was fiery.... may be hazlewood or Henry over rabada could have been a better choice

Cummins is a very good captain, but as many sides in history have proved, your captain needs to get his spot because of his ability as a player, not as a captain. Cummins is not one of the top 6 pace bowlers in the world and therefore shouldn't be picked. Your captain is important, but not if you have to leave out quality players so he can play
Instead of Jadeja I would be going with Santner because of the amount of work he has put in the entire year, especially in sub-continent pitches where he worked tirelessly against Sri Lanka and reaped rewards for his consistency in the series against India.

In these teams I would pick XII players, the additional player being a bowler based on conditions. I will also play with 5 bowlers. Harry Brook didnt come to India hence I would prefer Kamindu Mendis ahead of him. Marco Jansen replaces Harry Brook. Jadeja comes at 7 and Jansen at 8. I dont have the exact numbers of Jansen but I think he has had a very good year with the ball and decent with the bat. I am picking him as seam bowling allrounder. Of All seam bowling allrounders he may had the best year. Ravi Chandran Ashwin will be the 12th player who replaces Jansen for spin friendly conditions. You may consider making a XII member side from next year because the bowling balance depends conditions. Another point from your side's perspective Joe Root is actually a decent bowler and he bowled a lot in India, in essence in your team Joe Root is the alrounder.

Not with Latham, Cummins and Stark it won't. Stokes really only performed as an all rounder in New Zealand. Head is really hit and miss. He either scores big or goes early. No consistency.
@markreilly105 Jaiswal, Williamson, Root, Jadeja will provide consistency to the batting. Head will give an explosive option.
@Sojakatha2023 Head is inconsistent. He has performed against his favorite team, India, but against New Zealand, West Indies, and Pakistan he had 1 century and was out under 10 4 times in 7 matches. Inconsistent. 1, 0, 17, and 152 in his last 4 innings. Inconsistent. If he had converted 2 of those to 50's and 3 of the originals to 50's and made another hundred against the other 3, I would definitely consider him.
Great team Harsha, as usual. I would actually like to have Pat Cummins in place of Atkinson and I will give him captaincy too.
Prime reason is that Cummins just carries that flair with him to lead the team from the front and of course he is a heck of a bowler.
It feels so off to have a captain's name at last. Why can't we have bowlers starting the XI???

Giving u 5 proper bowling option and jadeja can hold his ground at 7 and medidi miraj batting at 8 is luxury... Now u have batting till 8 but also 5 proper bowling options... - Yash, ducket, KW/brook, root, mendis, rizwan, jaddu, miraaj, atkinson, rabada, bumraj.......
He has impacted his bowling to improve his batting. He is bowling pies at the moment. He's a good batter though.

A lot of this team picked itself. I wondered about Jamie Smith as keeper and one of my first thoughts as bowlers was Hazelwood. Happy to see Jadeja and Rabada in as they often fly under the radar and has not popped into my head. Of Harsha’s spin options, I was tempted with Maharaj just to squeeze 4 platters who played for Yorkshire in, but Jadeja is one of my favourites! 😜
No ausie in XI..i think head is better than Kamindu coz Head can win you test match in a session...with solidity top of the order,its good to have explosive batting at 5-6
