Nice and easy; will watch the rest of the videos. But it would be nice if the "now we'll watch this set to music" actually had the music match the dance tempo.
Truly surprised. They put all this effort into production values -- sharp video, clear audio instructions -- and then don't put any effort into syncing the music to the steps. Must have run out of money!
Are you sure that the music at 2:00 is foxtrot? cause it sounds like a random background music... @Carrie Sholes is right, the music doesn't match the dance tempo cause they are not dancing to it
I took neighborhood dancing lessons many decades ago and I just loved the Foxtrot, it felt as if I were just floating across the floor. The Cha Cha was a fun dance with minimal physical but great eye contact. Great fun! I hope that people get back into this kind of dancing, it really is a more civilized way of interacting.
Cheers for the Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (google it)? It is a great exclusive product for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my good mate called Gray at last got astronomical results with it.
*I think you shouldn't really have problem with any wall or any other dancer on the floor, once you know the basic steps properly, easy to adjust your steps a bit into the right direction to avoid any distraction during the music & dance..
Guys, if you try to dance this way you will be dancing your partner into tables and chairs by the 3rd or 4th Quick. Every teacher teaches it this way BUT I doubt if they are wrong. So the correct way to dance a fox trot is to first angle your body’s at a 45 degree angle down Line of Dance. This will keep you in a relatively straight line as you progress around the floor. Guys always remember it is your job to make her look good. The music set the scene, you are the dance and she is the dancer.
Thanks for the videos for easy way to understand this steps & the real meaning of the foxtrot, before I only knows & use as a code word representing the letter F & also used in radio communication purpose. due to I am Asian we are not familiar with this ballroom dance but I always love it..... anyway once again thanks for the videos.....
when you're not learning this in school or even have some kind of dance to attend just learning this on your own because why not. and you still manage to mess up on the bare basic steps. 😞
The leader goes back in the advanced version of this step, wich was the original step, before they simplified it so that people can learn it quicker. The advanced step is known as the "Junior walk", and has two more "slow slow quick quick" steps to it and the foot positions and timing are practically identical to the quickstep basic (only slower of course, and you face differently so that you actually travel down line of dance sideways with the leaders toes pointed towards the wall.
You should show this same lesson with both dancers showing it done also from their backside too, just for completeness, so you can get sort of the reverse feel for, of the motions involved. .
As a non dancer, musician I’m having a hard time understanding the rhythm. If the Foxtrot is in 4/4 time, are you counting 1,2,3& (slow, slow, quick quick). If so, is there a rest on the fourth bear of a measure?
Idk, I mean I’ve been studying ballet for fifteen years and can pick up choreography pretty easily for just about any genre, but this one looks really difficult. Went way over my head. I’m gonna need you guys to break it down some more.
Hello Tiny Potato! Some of our favorite songs for foxtrot include: The best is yet to come by Frank Sinatra, all I do is dream of you by Michael Buble and All of me by Michael Buble. Be sure to subscribe to our channel we'll be posting videos about music very soon! 🤗
Usually you lead with heal first and lead with toes going backwards. To avoid crushing your partners foot, you both are offset of each other. The offset should allow your right foot to pass in between the ladies feet while the ladies left foot should be able to pass in between the men's feet.
Foxtrot = 4/4. Most videos offer basic shacks like this: slow - slow - fast fast. And this is 3/4. That is, the rhythm of the Waltz. It’s very difficult to dance 3/4 when music is 4/4
I would like to see someone doing the Foxtrot as performed by Doris Day in the movie On Moonlight Bay. Was that step invented just for that scene? Or does it really exist? Can't find it on YT

Can someone explain me is foxtrot always set on slow slow quick quick? I saw some other instructors that teach basic steps for foxtrot slow quick quick.
@@blong206b I teach the box step to couples just learning to social dance for weddings or other events like swing dances, where none of the other dancers at the event are traveling around the room in line of dance protocol. Slow slow quick quick? Is it not based on a box step of Slow quick quick? I've seen some of the instructor teach Slow quick quick then went quick quick quick quick for the 4/4 beats. I'm confused...
You an do it any of those ways. Foxtrot it one of those dances that have more than one rhythm (Swing does that too, because there have been so many evolutions of it over the years). Once the leader and follower have practiced some "s-s-q-q moves, as well as some s-q-q-s-q-q moves they will discover that they can seamlessly go back and forth between to two at any point.
If you are counting the steps, you count to four, because there are four weight changes. But if you are counting the beats in the music, you are counting to 6. (beats 1 and 2 are the first "slow" step. Beats 3 and 4 are the second "slow" step. Beat 5 is the first "quick" step, and beat 6 is the second "quick" step.)

Yeah....how tf are you supposed to make an entire dance out of this?
LOL
@@doombuggy123 this is just the basic step. There are a lot of different steps in foxtrot, like progressive, left box turn, promenade, etc.
I laughed pretty good at this
Have you tried going in a different direction? It is useful when I am casually strolling down the street and hit the wall
Love how the music is not even CLOSE to matching up with the steps! Good work!

Also counting usually involves numbers, not “slow” and “fast” which as a musical and mathematical person I just cannot wrap my mind around

I didn't know what foxtrot is until now when I am reading a short story book of 60s and read it there!

While moving forward isn't it recommended to land the toe first to avoid crushing the ladies leg?
Usually you lead with heal first and lead with toes going backwards. To avoid crushing your partners foot, you both are offset of each other. The offset should allow your right foot to pass in between the ladies feet while the ladies left foot should be able to pass in between the men's feet.

of course you can, you reach the end of the place, go back to the dance floor and repeat process
